I used to have one of these cars back in 2018. It was a 9n 1.2 3cylinder 55bhp. Round town and journeys that don’t involved motorways where great. The car was comfy easy to drive. Cheap to run and definitely cool looking once a set of 9n2 bbs rims went on the car. Only issue with the car that I had was a faulty cat ( kept putting eml light on ) But apart from that they are genuinely good cars

My first and current car, really good to learn and gets things done! It's not the best option if you want to have fun but if you are a stance boi you can put some coils and bbs on it, with some gti parts from the restyling and it will look very nice, specially in black

I purchased a 9n2 1.4tdi (PD75) as a daily. Just below average miles for the age and pretty much FSH including a recent Cambelt & water pump change. It had 11 months MOT when I bought it with all advisories supposedly done. After 2 weeks of owning it the steering rack started to drain its fluid and both rear shocks failed. I topped up the fluid every week which then became every 2 days after another month and a half. To add salt in the wound within that month and a half both the gearbox and engine mounts failed. Unfortunately the cost to repair the rack and mounts were extremely expensive so had to bite the bullet and sell it as a non runner. I’m a VW fanboy as I’ve had a range of vags in the past and I will still buy them now. Buyers advice just check condition of steering rack end seals, cv boots and shocks especially on this platform (9n Polo, 6L Ibiza and Mk1 fabia). If it has a long MOT ask to see the invoice as obviously the advisories on mine were not done.

6n2 1.4 was my first car, loved it! Had it in red and I put a de badged gti grill on it and gti front splitter, looked great, but as all vw’s it was slow as hell compared to other 1.4s of that time, was reliable though

POLLY!!! i had a 2004 VW Polo 9n S 5 door in black as my first car. I paid asking price for it £1050 after looking at it for half an hour in the dark with a knackered battery. (later found out it had had a few front end crashes and sat higher on one side than the other......I ragged the bollocks of that thing for 2 years every single day. It took me on holiday, it took my family to hospital. It. Took. Everything!!! I think i paid £1250 insurance and then £750 after that with a blackbox on both policies. Eventually there was a compression problem and i wanted something nicer so i scrapped her but out of all the cars ive owned she will forever been the best. Rear door actuator replaced, heater resistor replaced, rear drivers light bulb holder replaced due to water leaking into light cluster. 3rd high level brake light full of water, had to take off and fix then replace bulbs. Oil light problem also. These little cars seem to need a lot of loving lol. All aside its a solid little car and easy to work at this stuff yourself if you fancy it.

Good car except for the engine. Especially 1.2, 3 cylinder. I had one. It was garbage. I was visting car service very often. The problems that i had:
    -Check engine light went on
    -EPC light went on
-From 2 to 2 months i was changing spark plugs because the car wasn't starting
-Sometimes only 2 cylinders were working
-When the EPC light was on, i pushed the accelerator to the floor but the engine, wasn't reving
-Oil consuption was a problem, because...it's a Volkswagen.
Idk maybe i had very bad luck. Anyway, i recommend 1.4 MPI instead of 1.2
    The pros of the polo:
    -It's very stable on road
    -The steering is really nice
    -Gearbox is precise
    -Good ergonomy
That's my opinion, owner of vw polo.
P.S. Sorry for my english 😂

Don't get the three cylinder 1.2 petrol it's rubbish. Instead get the 1.4. preferably the updated one starting from 56 plate (2007) onward (with facelift front end). They carried this engine over to the mk5 polo. Main difference is newer fuel injectors and crucially doesn't have an EGR valve which is a very good thing. The earlier engines do and it only causes problems. Or the 1.9 diesel is very good as well.
