  • Growing tomatoes is an art and a skill. We have been growing tomatoes at Aanandaa for several years now, and each year we have gotten better at it. In this video we share our learning about growing tomatoes. If you get a few steps right, you can get a bountiful harvest of plump, juicy and big tomatoes - fit for the market, and of course fit for yourself. Start with some good seed of open pollinated seeds. Make seedlings in your own nursery. After 3-4 weeks they will be ready to transplant. Remember to plant them deep into the ground. And most importantly, trellis them up. As they grow, remove all the vertical branches emerging from the armpit of the leaves. This will ensure the plant does not become a bush, and you get less vegetative growth and more fruiting! Watch this video to see the tomatoes growing at Aanandaa!

He grows tomatoes for years in your very small balcony . But this year he’s been observing that his harvest has been much lesser then what he has seen before . He’s been asking me what the reason could be . Moment your video came up I showed him and he’s actually replanted some 2 of his tomato sapling much deeper in the pots.

We grow both tomatoes and cherry tomatoes - not sure about the specific variety name! You can plant tomatoes twice in the year - once around Sep-Nov and the other time during Feb-Mar. Ideally you should have tomatoes growing in your garden round the year.

Namaste didi. For past three years I'm growing defferent crops in my homestead organically. It's like a mini permaculture model or food forest you can say. But I'm having trouble with tomatoes for last two years. First year they were completely healthy and had a great harvest. But last year and this year most of the plants got infected may be by blite or something else. I used turmeric powder but not recovered thought later on some succers came from bottom and I had a little harvest. Is there any good organic solution to prevent from fungal attack?
