I think that Huggy Wuggy having "Maximum obedience" implies that he wouldnt have tried to kill you on his own accord and that someone sent him after you.

I believe in the first chapter it is said that huggy wuggy is the factory's security system, so it would go after those deemed intruders. At least that's what I remember
Interesting idea, I like it! It also mentions Huggy has "Sufficient" intelligence, which may mean he isn't actually very smart, maybe more dog level, just smart enough for whatever the company wants him to do.
In the game itself, it is VERY strongly implied that the other toys were created from the orphan children. If you read the test sheets, you’ll see that each orphan child participating in the game station has been assigned a toy. It’s likely that after they completed the tests to the company’s satisfaction, they were fused with their assigned toy.

Personal theory on my part: Poppy didn't send the letter. She was locked up until we came along, so not sure how she could have done it. The Prototype is, what I think, the most likely suspect. Why still remains to be seen though

Is it possible that Elliot used someone who was already meant to die before moving on to testing "less intelligent", more obedient orphans? That would explain why the prototype has an abnormal design. He was never assigned a toy because he isn't a kid.

What if the prototype’s main body/body core is actually the execution device ? I mean some sort of attachment to the object they’re being turned into is needed as seen by children being paired with toys.
The death messages “The prototype saved us” and “ isn’t he wonderful?”, gives me the assumption that The prototype perhaps saved the other possessed toys by murdering the humans experiment on them. I believe the toys were at first grateful to the prototype until the prototype started killing the them. I also think the orphanage the company advertised was really to have more test subjects
I like this idea about the prototype. Another theory could be that is your (the player) supressed memories and maybe it became like a demon or entity that became the prototype. Some of the workers then felt like he should be worshipped.

Or maybe it’s just the prototype trying to make you drop your guard. “Isn’t he wonderful” sounds like something you’d say about yourself while pretending to be someone else. Just a theory a piggyback theory.
I’ve been watching other theorists, and some of them believe that Stella still got her wish to become a toy. Not as Poppy, but as Kissy Missy. Think about it, even though we only saw her once, she didn’t attack us and instead helped us. Plus, with the way she looked back at the Player, she might’ve recognized them as a former employee or at least isn’t feral and still retained some of Stella’s kindness.

I saw someone suggest that Stella is actually the player character. It would also make some level of sense...she fills guilt about everything that happened and wants to fix it somehow. When she learns the staff is still alive, she goes on.
The fact that her voice comes from the kissy missy cutout makes this theory pretty likely.

Wait.. could it be that Kissy is not violent because she agreed to the experiment and she got what she wanted? Are the other toys violent because they were forced against their own will?
There's one detail worth looking into though; the animated toys' pupils became almost as wide as their eyes when they're attacking or going aggressive. Poppy's eyes weren't as wide as in the end of the chapter when we first met her, maybe we have something to do with the toys' aggression?
If you look closely, there are even red lights / glows in mommy’s eyes as she counts from ten
Kind of reminds me of the way cats eyes work. The pupils become bigger when they focus on something.
All I know is that I hope we see more of Kissy Missy, I don't know how helpful lore wise she'll be, but... Come on... She's adorable.
Well, Chapter 3's trailer has Poppy riding Kissy when she says the part about taking revenge on "those monsters who tortured you, who tortured us!" Mostly the "tortured us" part.

A suggestion: If we go along with the theory of "orphans being turned into monsters" and the poster encouraging adoption, what if the kids that weren't adopted were turned into toys, so they could still be "adopted into a household" in a sick way. I know this is most likely untrue but it's a weird thought I got.
That's actually an interesting concept, and it actually doesn't sound too far fetched either.

The minigames we work through make a point of emphasizing that they're testing the children for certain qualities. That didn't seem like it was just meant to be a find sort of "playtime lore" for the kids and parents to me.

4:37 // I don't really know if I'm overthinking the background noises or they are genuinely what they think I are, but if you listen closely to the background noises while the male scientist is talking, you can hear banging on what I would assume to be a metal door and screams from all of the other Playtime Co. employees.
Based on the situation, the background context of how the Prototype has a history of escaping confinement, it's a possible theory that the audio log during // 4:37 // happened in a confined room with all of the Playtime Co. employees within, while someone (or something, most likely the Prototype) is trying to break in.
The screams are muffled though, as if in another room. More than likely, Ludwig locked himself in a safe room of sorts and Experiment 1006 was killing everyone else outside and the other employees were trying to get him to open the door to let them in. Only for Experiment 1006 to kill them and break through it himself at the end.
My question is how does Poppy, a doll made in 1950, have a soul of someone who died in the 1960s?

6:58 Everyone keeps thinking Huggy Wuggy survived and pulled himself into the vents, but what I think makes more sense is that the Prototype dragged his corpse into the vents and incorporated him into itself like Mommy Long Legs says as she's ground up!

I personally think that Huggy survived, but it’s definitely possible that the prototype got to him.
Question is: who's giving Huggy the orders if he's so obedient? Obedience doesn't simply mean obeying anyone and everyone you see but loyalty to your superior (at least that's what the context is seeming to say).

When I first saw the Prototypes claw, I immediately thought of the Beldam from Coraline. I'm not saying they're the same, but she did make dolls that looked like her victims.

quick question: the tragic death of Ludwig's family member is from the 1960s, but Poppy was created circa 1950, doesn't this mean that the doll cannot be the family member? Maybe the one who died is the one who created Poppy, and after they died, Elliot started the experiments to figure out how to repeat their success (maybe to bring them back), and thus expanded Playtime co with the results of those experiments. The second toy, Bron, is from 1961, which cuts it close but would match the timeline better.
Ooh, true! So, maybe it *was* Ludwig’s child who died, but they were already an adult and working with him at Playtime Co. They create Poppy (either using themself or someone else), but no one knows how they did it, and now Ludwig must go through hundreds of experiments to try and revive his child.
I was just thinking the same thing about the years. I find this lore and theories so interesting.

You didn’t mention how Poppy said “We’ll set things right.” And before the train crashed she was suddenly cut off by something. I believe the Protptype or maybe Huggy crashed the train and attacked Poppy. We don’t know what her plan exactly is, but I don’t think it’s malicious. She wants to put a stop to the evil her existence has lead to the creation of.

It's not likely Huggy. You can hear an alarm clock as Poppy is cut off. The prototype used an alarm clock to create a lazer pointer, so it's likely the Prototype.
The high speeds and sudden braking crashes the train. I don't think it was intentional by anyone, even the Prototype or Huggy
I agree with you that Poppy probably just wants to stop whatever is happening in the factory. Her existence may be the cause and result of some evil going on but I doubt she wants to hurt the player character.
Maybe in Chapter 1 he was trying to sqve up from poppy in a twisted way

The note that "poppy" sent wasnt sent by her though... how could she send it behind the case?
But that begs the question, who did? And why?
Who could benefit from releasing poppy and a previous employee into the factory? The only one smart enough for this is the prototype, but couldnt the prototype just go into the poppy room and release poppy by themselves?

Personally I feel that the protagonist is themselves an experiment. Something about the way Poppy says you'll do whatever she asks makes me think of that "maximum obedience" line.

she knows that at this point all the protagonist wants to do is get out of here and she’s the most likely way for them to get out. she wants to right all the wrongs in the facility but she needs help to do it, kinda a symbiotic relationship thing. just my opinion though

also when she kept talking about the prototype in the death scenes and how wonderful he was it made me think she was talking to a toy standing over the player's (sorta) dead body talking about how wonderful they are.
Based on some of the death screens, such as "The prototype has saved us" and "Isn't he amazing", I wouldn't be surprised if we found out the player character was a successful experiment of some kind. Like sombody decided to see if the tech used to make dolls could also make a human.
I think this is highly unlikely since it appears we worked at the factory before these experiments could reach these results. I know that poppy makes it seem like we are "special" in some other way, and we may well be, but I really do think we are human simply for the fact that mommy recognized us, we "worked here"
Assuming that this is correct it explains the hands. Although I haven't watched much gameplay of chapter 1 so I'm probably an idiot but if the player had normal hands why wouldn't they use them?

I absolutely love how MatPat doesn’t ignore the relation between other games and this one and gives credit to who did it first but not in a mean “they’re copying” way ❤
The fact that everything is similar to FNaF makes it so hard to make a horror game.

Mommy Long Legs recognized the player character as a staff member and said you deserved to die for your role.
In chapter 1, we're told the factory has unconventional security measures, but we never actually see any actual security. Huggy Wuggy doesn't initially attack you, and in fact gives you the key to get inside, which means Huggy Wuggy probably recognized you as staff immediately. The only reasons that seem reasonable for why he attacked you later was either 1. Someone sent him after you (maximum obedience), or 2. You entered a part of the factory that you didn't have security clearance for and psycho Huggy Wuggy was the unconventional security measures.
It seems strange that you would be recognized so quickly and easily when they presumably haven't seen you in over a decade, and that mommy long legs says for your role you deserve to die unless the player character was either a head researcher of some kind or someone high up in the company who kept the experiments going.
There was a theory that Huggy was starving since he was made to have a digestive system and need to eat, and the toy we made just before he chases us made him go nuts because he wanted to eat it, killing us in his desperation to get it. He is obedient, so he was trained to not attack staff, but was desperate and blindsighted by his hunger.

I like these kinds of horror games, cuz not only are they doing a great job at scaring you, but the lore of the game is excellent as well! Unlike some other games that are just tryin to scare you.
I think that those orphans were tested for their intelligence to see children are the most optimal to become a toy. Since the whole point of the game station is the test how intelligent a child and intelligence seems to be important in the experiments for the living toys. Also I think when huggy Wuggy hits the pipes, that’s not blood, it’s the poppy gel.

@@Zempie In the experiment note found in Elliot's office in Chapter 2, it was explained how the dead lab rats were placed in poppy gel due to the original flower's reviving capabilities as mentioned in myths, before they received electric shocks to energize and wake them up. The poppy flower is deep red, so I imagine the gel was also red, which gives @Killer_snas theory of Huggy Wuggy's blood actually being poppy gel plausible credibility. That would mean the majority of blood found in the factory was actually poppy gel, too, which makes this not as gory, but still pretty eerie for how close they are in appearance.

I agree with the orphan thing! If i remember correctly, mummy at one point hints at the children not having a mommy so she will be their‘s. She was taking care of the orphans. The play area is there to keep the children at peace and make it seem all fun and game when in reality they were being tested and studied for the experiments

So, In how close this game is to FNAF, I feel like the creators were somewhat inspired by FNAF, I mean horror, bringing inanimate objects to life, expiramenting on children? It’s all really similar, to similar to be a coincidence.
I find it odd how the beta scene has Poppy's voice more sad and Sympathetic but the final version is twisted and happy. It's like they debated on the direction on if Poppy was a Victim to care for or a Villain to fear.

I suspect Poppy has motives and goals of her own, and she plans on using the player to accomplish those goals, whether we want to or not. One way this could end up is with the player having to make a choice toward the end whether or not to save Poppy or allow her to die, and it will mostly hinge on whether or not you agree with what she was trying to do. Now, I don't think that's super likely, but it does feel like the plot might be setting itself up for where such a situation would be plausible at least.
In desperate circumstances the lines between villains and victims can blur. Everyone has a goal, even if it's just to survive, and they'll do almost anything to achieve it.
My theory is that Huggy Wuggy's "Obedience" entails that he will end up helping you defeat The Prototype in the end somehow. He doesnt seem nearly as evil as the The Prototype is, and The Prototype would completely over shadow Huggy Wuggy, who is the literal face of the franchise, as the game's big bad.
I predict Huggy and Kissy are both gonna tear into the Prototype during the final battle like two wolves trying to take on a bear

i am of the opinion that huggy wuggy is that security system, & that he & kissy missy are the only things keeping the prototype contained within the factory.
otherwise the prototype would have waltzed to the outside world & ripping society a new one from the get go.

My theory is: When it was announced that Huggy Wuggy was obedient, they were referring to the "security measure" put in place from the beginning of the game in Chapter 1. In first tape the guy said something about tame security measures, but Huggy Wuggy isn't one of the tame measures. That is what they mean when they say he is obedient because he is basically a security measure for trespassers.

Agreed maybe experiment 1006 was the one who kept poppy locked in, the one who left the guard wuggy who is loyal to guard the entrance and put up the warnings ⚠️ on the poppy door 🚪 and who's to say if G-wuggy crawled up the vent? Didn’t mommy long legs get dragged under a door? And why didn't mommy put poppy back in her case if she wasn't on her side? Or is the main character the only employee who got the tape and letter? Could they have been the children who scored high in the tests who has grown up, escaped, called back because the prosses has been completed for living toys and poppy never truly was locked in the case but set up as a decoy for those who gets past the Guard wuggy (or G-wuggy for fun) at the entrance and ignores the warnings finds poppy then see is they can get past mommy.

Something I realized is that Chapter 2 literally repeated the formula for Chapter 1, except kind of different
Go to factory, get hand, do puzzles, forget about enemy so they can scare you, long scary chase with twist and turns, then kill enemy
That can be said for fnaf as well.
Honestly it reminded me of Bendy chapter 3, where the devs had zero idea what to do with the game so they just added fetch quest after fetch quest with lore sprinkled here and there

so basicly almost every horror game these days are trying to get a game theory video and replicate fnaf or bendy.
And most of the indie video games have the same elements either:
-Dead Children
-Old Employee / Owner of an abadoned factory
-A company which created to entertain children
-The owner of the company is always a depressed middle aged old man with trouble marriage or suffering from depresions
-The protagonist got the letter from the company
-Terrfiying monsters which are the products of the companies

I know everyone else here has noted that the subtle hint at Huggy Wuggy being very obedient means that someone is clearly pulling the strings somewhere, but I also think it means that at some point WE, the player, will be allowed to give him orders to help us through a chapter.
But the problem with this is that all the toys hated adults, we can see this in the reports of the living toys with orphan kids, mostly for mommy but still we can assume because we didn't hear of any of the toys killing kids with these experiments did we? So the only way this would work is if we find an orphan kid, which I believe kissy missy has since she isn't hostile towards us
What if we are a teen not kid or adult. What if we left before the chaos happened

Poppy came out in the 1950's and he lost his family member in the 1960's. Since Poppy was sentient before Ludwig's daughter died, then Poppy couldn't be Ludwig's daughter. Unless it was covered up until the 1960's or his daughter was just merged with Poppy

(my theory on poppy's ending lore) when she is talking about being able to exist as a doll which has killed millions, it means trying to use humans in the toys making monsters instead 🤔
Only thing I wanna mention is Poppy isn’t the one who crashed the train, something cuts her off mid-monologue and then the train goes out of control. It could be the prototype, it could be something new, or it could be the train itself malfunctioning.

Actually I don't remember where I saw it but Poppy had a longer monologue that explained more, but it was cut for some reason.
It seems the prospect can control other toys for a bit. So I think in the game poppy was being contol and at the end broke away from it.

I feel like these three are working together, and that’s why Huggy, nor Poppy have been killed yet. The prototype could totally have broken through Poppy’s glass if he wanted to reach her, and Huggy was literally out in the open when we met him. I feel like Poppy might double-cross them at some point, but I don’t have much of a clue.
Although mommy was only taken by the prototype when she died. So maybe its not that strong yet

I think the toys are being made with the orphan children because, around the factory, you find sheets of paper that have childrens names as "test subjects" and other information about them. Also, the 3 games that were made for the children to play had the hidden motive of testing their physical and intellectual abilities.
Another thing to back this up is the fact all kids tested on there were orphans..aka nobodies who wouldn’t be missed and easy to cover up

To MatPat himself, I found something really valuable. Go and find a video someone made about exploring an unfinished version of the game hidden in the files. Poppy’s monologue is different and confirms my theory that she is not against us
Am I the only one who obviously sees that poppy didn’t crash the train? She’s in the middle of her villain monologue and then- what’s- SHE CUTS OFF which means something went wrong. I firmly believe someone hacked the train. And it wasn’t poppy. She has a different plan than to crash our train, she wanted to take us into the factory to complete some other purpose.
It seems pretty obvious who it is. The part where you can hear she was cut off, you hear an alarm clock. If you remember from one of the tapes, the Prototype had an alarm clock in it's containment room. So it seems that The Prototype was the one who caused the train crash

The adopted daughter feels real thin. The more obvious conclusion would be getting orphans for their thousands of experiments. that would also explain why poppy is hostile to us, the player, if she were, in fact, an orphan that was abducted and experimented on by the employees, which we might be a part of. this therefore means that there was some other starting point, a different inciting incident. maybe the father started doing these experiments after he couldn't save his precious child because he didn't want another accident to occur to other children, but that wouldn't explain why the company wanting more obedient toys like huggy wuggy. at this point I'd say that we don't have enough info yet, but mat can still try his best.

I like it as a story beat, it provides motivation for Elliot to be obsessed with preserving and reanimating life, while adding a little twist on the “bringing my dead kid back as a ______” trope to differentiate it from other indie horror series that did it first. Maybe in future chapters they’ll add in more and more hints to back up the theories

Huggy Wuggy is obedient, right? which means someone (or something) INSTRCUTED him to go after the player, so now that leads to who. Couldn't be Poppy because she was locked up, but that means something/someone is out for us, (which is already shown), but now it's just a matter of who is the evil mastermind behind it all. Huggy wouldn't attack unless ordered.

He recorded the video at the beginning of Chapter 1, warning trespassers of the "security systems" of the factory, noting that motion tripwires alerting the authorities are some of the more tame security features. Huggy was just set up on sentry duty until the player showed up.

I wish they'd kept the cut monologue. Poppy doesn't take that stupid sinister turn, she's apologetic, and still as sweet as she is at the beginning of the chapter. I was worried about her when Mommy snagged her at the beginning of the chapter, and relieved upon freeing her. After seeing the Prototype drag Mommy's remains off, I had a sense of needing to stop it.
That _is_ why the player is there in the first place, right? Righting the wrongs of what happened in the factory. If Poppy kept the honesty and sweetness from the beginning of the chapter, I think more players would like her. What's more, I think more players would feel greater tension from her monologue getting cut off by the Prototype.

Yeah, even in the og cut its clear she wasn't the one who crashed the train. You can hear in her voiceline she's confused by the train speeding up before she cuts out and we're forced to pull the emergency brake and crash. That screams sabotage by something else to me.

To be honest, fnaf has a large amount of lore and covered pretty much over *mostly* everything involved in the horror aspects. You know; serial killer, dead kids, familial plot twists, their spirits possessing otherwise inanimate objects, mind-swapping, and said serial killer is also immortal. Kinda covers everything from the supernatural aspects of horror to the gruesome concepts that mentions in both the books and the games. But I don’t think fnaf really did scientific experiments as far as I can remember other than the fazgoo mentioned that supposedly inexperienced teenagers decided to play with as if it was slime (my lighthearted interpretation of that story), so that’s the most original thing they have compared to fnaf. Which coming up with something original, is kinda hard when someone else has done it all first. It probably took a lot for the creator of Poppy Playtime to come up with something original and change a lot of their ideas simply because other creators decided to do it first, which influences their consumers to compare and contrast their brands.

It occurs to me we may have killed some of the few things keeping the prototype at bay. He seems to not like attacking the other toys, as he only takes Mommy Long Legs after you kill her, and we saw no signs of him in Chapter 1. My guess is that the toys are inadvertently stalling him. He may use pieces of them after they have been killed, but why won't he attack and kill them on his own, as he is surely capable of doing so.
Maybe it is actually too weak and is waiting for them to die? The toys know it's there but they aren't scared of it untill near death as shown by mommy.

I don’t think he is capable of killing them, at least not yet. they said he was very intelligent, but he seems too thin to actually have any kind of power, and since I doubt stabbing plastic would do that much (with his weird claw like fingers). I think he waits until the other monsters start turning against each other, since he knows he won’t be able to beat them without any sort of power or mobility.
No the thing is, there's a lot of parts everywhere, given how intelligent it is it could probably make some type of weapon or maybe a trap.

The only one that makes some level of sense for it not to chase after is Huggy, as its useful as is, and it may be scared that when it takes parts of Huggy, it may also take on its obedience, but even that is a stretch, but why not others?
In chapter 2, when you are about to start playing statues, mommy long legs says something like: *you worked here so if anyone deserves to die alone, that is you* which makes me believe the we were maybe some type of important employee for her to recognize us that easily

I believe the prototype is Elliot. He just wanted to bring back his daughter, but when he died, someone else (probably the missing slide name) became in charge, and decided that living toys would make a load of money, so he brought Elliot back in a toy, the prototype. Enraged that his experiment was used for marketing, he was extremely violent and wants to escape the factory.

To be fair, it isn't finished yet. Still have a few chapters to go.
Also, actually, Poppy being his daughter makes sense: adults are generally better at emotional regulation than children, and Poppy is probably the most calm toy we see. It would also fit with the theory that she's was a willing test subject who consented to be turned into a toy and understood what was going on. Conversely, the other big toys are also adults (who didn't consent), and the mass production toys where kids.
The two unique things about Poppy is her size and her ability to be replicated. She is the smallest but yet also one of the smartest toys we met on the series so far. Which means Poppy couldn't have possible been made out of employees like the other toys she was made out of something different. Poppy was made from orphans.
They're small to fit the toys size, they had close relationship with agency implying a long history with them. Plus they can keep the brain intact which would allow for the perfect self talking kids toys decades a head of coding.
Plus their size could be way shorter and just as smart as a the other giant talking toys.
