- The US has made its strongest statement yet on the crisis in Gaza, saying there must be an "immediate ceasefire" and aid must be allowed in.
US vice president Kamala Harris described the situation as "inhumane" and an "humanitarian catastrophe".
She called for a six-week ceasefire to allow Israeli hostages out - and aid in.
Ceasefire negotiations are continuing in Egypt but there are reports Israel may be preparing to boycott the talks.

I'm sorry, but by definition, a ceasefire is a suspension in hostilities. A follow-up peace treaty of sorts is required to end hostilities on a more permanent basis. It's just one step in the right direction... for a change.

Ceasefire, temporary ceasefire, mean the IDF will still be there shooting people, destroying stuff, temporary ceasefire means less bombs maybe and more aid that Palestinian people desperately need... They also couldn't get Israel to come to a compromise so are now pivoting to "is on the table" in order to place the blame squarely on the weaker side alone for not accepting a temporary deal: literally like expecting hostage takers to play nice so the swat team can burst in and kill them later... all all while letting those hostages (whom they supposedly care about) continue to languish.
