This simple Platino-based Transistor Tester is designed to test transistors in a simple and portable way. Since it is tedious to read the markings on the transistor devices and to look up its characteristics in datasheets, a handy transistor tester makes its way in such scenarios. The Platino Transistor tester not only identifies the leads of the device but also the type and characteristics like Hfe of the device. The simplified design of Elektor’s Platino board makes it simpler to extend its capability to develop devices of complex functionality with a few enhancements.

I did not know that the AVR transistor tester by Markus Frejek and Karl-Heinz Kübbeler (M/KH) and had roots on the elektor magazine. Their project is an amazing example of open hardware and software.
I hope that the elektor remake brings something new, but is a tall order to do better than M/KH.

Elektor should quickly reinvent itself it becomes too expensive and young generation can not effort it anymore !
I bought that tester on E-bay months ago for US$15,- (free shipping from china to Europe) mine can including functions mentioned on this video also can measure C,L,R from 0.1ohm up to 50Mohm can measure 2 resistors (potentiometers) same time.ESR of a capacitor also Generate signals at steps 0.1Hz,1Hz,10Hz.....up to 10MHz Also it can identify SCR's Triacs, Diodes,and Zeners with low breakdown voltage .
Also the books elector publishes are expensive ! with all it connections around the world (power of distributing) price should be lower!
