  • ✓ How to separate the Coconut flesh from the shell is also demonstrated in this video.
This very unique method & technique of cracking open a coconut has been developed by us after much trial & error.
Looking at the amount of views, likes & comments by viewers; we can confidently say that this is one of the best methods yet seen on CZcams (or anywhere else) of how to crack open a mature, dry, brown Coconut without losing a single drop of water (also it's not as messy as the other methods: i.e. drilling into it making holes & then aimlessly whacking it with a hammer leaves behind a lot of small messy bits).
The Coconut Palm is the King of trees - every single thing from the tree is usable.
Though its name suggests that it is a nut, we've always regarded coconut as a fruit. Is a Coconut a nut or a fruit?..........it is in fact a seed.
Here are some incredible and astonishing Coconut facts:
    * The leaves can be used for roofing in the hot temperature to provide cover from the scorching heat of the sun,
    * The actual coconut in it's developing stage (whilst still green) when the flesh of the coconut is still quite thin & soft and so it is very easy to eat. The primary reason for picking the fruit early is for the very sterile water which fills up the whole coconut (the water will diminish away gradually feeding the white flesh of the developing coconut). The Coconut Water is isotonic i.e. it replaces lost energy after exercise.
    * The young green coconut water is so sterile that it can be used as a drip.
    * The green husk of the can be dried out for burning for heat & also for cooking; the husk also makes an excellent scourer for when you do your washing up.
    * The outer hairs of the Coconut can be used to make rope, floor mats, doormats, brushes, mattresses, upholstery padding + much more.
    * When the Coconut is fully matured it develops a hard outer shell and the flesh inside becomes hard & the white flesh can be eaten as it is or can be grated and then be used in cooking or sweets can be made.
Unless it is picked, a matured coconut eventually drops from the tree. The fully developed hard shell does not crack easily. Dry and brown, the coconut may sit underneath the tree for months and appear as if it were dead, until one day a green shoot pushes its way out of the shell. The whole time the old coconut has been sitting under the tree, changes have been slowly taking place inside. At one end of the coconut (where the eyes are), an embryo starts growing, feeding off the juice and nutrition of the thick white flesh. This embryo develops into a creamy mass that gradually fills much of the empty space inside. It is good to eat -- sweet, somewhat spongy and less fibrous than the matured meat.
In India the Coconut is used in all types of religious ceremonies from birth, throughout life & even in death: if a family member or close relative has lived with you & leaves to go away; then a coconut is given to them for luck, when a Mother or Father passes away then one of the children will plant a Coconut in the ground, it's used in pre-birth (baby shower) ceremony & in the engagement and wedding ceremonies.
We've read that when a volcano erupts in the ocean & an island is formed from the resulting lava.........one of the first things that will grow on the new land will be a coconut tree - there are stories of people who have had the misfortune to be stranded on a desert island who have managed to survive their ordeal by drinking & eating Coconut.
When you see the height of a Coconut tree - that's how deep the roots go into the ground.
Enjoy your Coconut - natures true gift.............it's come from very, very far !!!
    God Bless !!!

This is the, absolute, best way I have ever seen in my life! Thank you! Now, I'm a woman from the U.S. not quite adapted to the art of opening coconuts, period! My family is from N. Carolina and later moved to Northern States. We didn't use fresh only the pre-package shredded coconut. I'm into fresh everything now and this really enlightens and guides me on how to safely and swiftly open coconuts without too much mess!

There is a safer way to remove the water. Just use a corkscrew (wine bottle opener) in the soft "eye" (one of the three, only one is soft), and either use a straw to test the water for freshness or turn the coconut upside down into a glass to drain the water.

Just suggestion, upon putting the cup of the juice you got out from the coconut, it'll be better if you either cap it or seal it with a plastic film wrap, otherwise after sometime, the flavoring from the others in the refrigerator may enter the cup of the coconut juice.
