Miata Slow Windows CHEAP Repair Fix | Honda Shin Etsu Grease

  • I got sick of the slow moving windows on my NA Miata. I bought the delrin window bushings from Moss Miata. The original bushings were actually okay on my car, but since I had the car apart anyways I figured I would upgrade to the delrin bushings and grease the slides with Honda Shin Etsu Grease (link below).
The Shin Etsu grease and window rail cleaning has the biggest affect on the window speed. I don't think the bushings are necessary unless yours have completely worn out. This means you can fix your windows for less than $20.

This greatly improved the mobility of my windows. I was actually worried I would burn out my window motors they went so slow (before this fix).

Thank you for making this video! I used it as a guide today. But I'd say any silicone grease will work, not just the fancy one from Honda.

Good complete video. I was a little scared to take out the entire window and rails. I did take off the door panel and located the window rails. I took lithium grease on my finger and hooked around the rail and coated the inside of the rail in several places.. it improved the window function greatly..

THANK YOU for the detailed video. I have a 2004 Mazdaspeed and except for the small details of how to take off the door panels (they differ from NA to NB), the procedure was exact and perfect!

Thanks for the video! I noticed how bad they were even on the manual windows, I’ll be doing the same thing!

Thanks for the great video. Just did the passenger on my NA. Great tip about wearing gloves to remove the plastic. That tar is super sticky

  • @KBTV47

Didn’t realize how crazy it was to be working right over a grate until you dropped that bolt!

Well done, logical video without all the usual useless blabbering.

Nice video, but i agree with other commenters that it’s a bit frustrating not seeing the end result and understanding how faster the windows move compared to before this work.

Thanks for the video. My NB driver's side window only goes down about halfway then stops as if something is blocking it. I need to take it all apart and see what the problem is.

I’m halfway through unsticking my NB Miata’s passenger side window and it just reaffirms how much I prefer manual windows. Also, that tarry stuff may be the most awful substance known to man.

Pretty much the same for an NB? My 2003 SE is needing some window help soon.

Too much work! Just locate the top of the window tracks with windows down (it’s easy) and spray silicone down into the rails and along front-edge rubber gasket. A real quick fix without the tedious hassle of taking your doors apart!
