    Welcome to Maya!
    Maya is a beautiful (and frustrating) world where you can literally do anything you put your mind to. Today, I will teach you how to read the dope sheet, and use it's basic tools.
    If you have any questions, or get stuck, let me know in the comments below and I will do my best to help you!

    New editing is NEW!
    I recently upgraded my editing software & thought I'd use this opportunity to try to better the flow of the video.
    Let me know what you think of it, & also what you think of the new intro & outro animations!

    thanks for the info, i've used maya for ages, but never played with the dope sheet. also love your canadian accent! :) the dope sheet reminds me of a more detailed version of the time slider.

      Accent? What accent? 😉 Haha
      Honestly I still don't use the Dope Sheet that often (I live in the Graph Editor) but it's still a neat tool worth looking at from time to time!

    I'm new here, currently in online study for diploma 3D and 2D animation, my teacher just shared your video on screen so I looked you up after we watched you so I can see more if it'd what we would be using and teachers opinion use your video as a tutorial. I still have a lot to learn ahead of me.

    Such excellent breakdown of the Dope Sheet, @Skitty. Thanks a lot.

    Just a tip, don't use the DopeSheet for snapping keyframes just find the key that are hitting fraction frames make a new key next to them and the delete the fractioned keys. The dopesheet as Skitty says are good for retiming that's the most useful thing they do for me I would like to see how people take more advantage of them beyond that.

    • @SkittyAnimates
      @SkittyAnimates  Před 4 lety +1

      That's a good tip! Personally I just snap the keys on the timeline, but it doesn't always work, so setting a new key is the safest way to go about it.

      I'm still confused as to what the DopeSheet is used for. Is it like the TWEEN machine? Is it to get the breakdown in there? Or is it as @ImpactFrames mentioned, retiming the scene without destorying it?

    • @SkittyAnimates
      @SkittyAnimates  Před 4 lety

      It's just a keyframe editor, mostly used for re-timing 🙂

    • @impactframes
      @impactframes Před 4 lety

      @@dannymorales787 you can move keys around easier with the dope sheet, is a convinient way to change the timing it does not deatroy your keys. Tween Machine creates breakdowns keys for your animation depending on the pose you favoring.

    Great channel, thanks, but I don't see any keys in the green stripes even though the objects are selected and have keyframes. Summary shows the keys. I am using Maya 2020.

    Thank you for this! It’s really helpful but maya keeps crashing when I try to move the key frames on the dope sheet. :(

    I still don't quite understand the advantages of using dope sheet as oppose to graph editor..🤔

    • @SkittyAnimates
      @SkittyAnimates  Před 3 lety

      It's more of a preference thing - some people like to see their keys laid out this way. Personally, I barely ever touch the dope sheet. The graph editor is much more visual!

    Maya interface really needs work man. using This should be more intuitive to use than this.
