- The Swale Trail is a 12 mile multipurpose route stretching from Keld to Reeth. It can be walked in either direction. It is suitable for walking, mountain biking and horse riding.

I first found Keld on my first South to North Pennine Way in 1976 and returned again for a reverse North to South Pennine Way after I left the army in 1979, my next visit to Keld was on my West to East Coast to Coast and again I also did a East to West C2C in 1980. I returned again 2 yrs ago on my Darlington to High Force, Dufton, Appleby, Kirkby Stephens, Keld, Reeth, Richmond and Back to Darlington Hike two years ago. Now retired so I spend daylight hours watch Hiking Videos on CZcams. Enjoy your Hiking as much as I have over the years. Tony the Retired Hiker

@@carriehikes Yes Carrie and I re-live them through people like you that video them and upload them here to thank for that. Oh what a pity all I have are 35mm photographs and my Internal Hardrive (my Brain) to store the memories. Ten years ago it was a 5 minute walk to my nearest supermarket, now that is a 30 minute walk with 2x5 Minutes rest. Nice in the Summer when the sun is shining, not so nice in the Mild Winters we get down here, Snow about once every 10 Years and it seldom last longer than one day. Happy Hiking. That's lovely to know. It's a beautiful name, I just googled it and found out Reeth is an Indian name meaning custom and tradition. Thanks for commenting :D
That's a lovely route Carrie..we have walked many of those paths over the years.Swaledale is one of the most beautiful of all the Dales.

Hi Nigel, yes it is a lovely area. Not quite as dramatic as The Lakes but still beautiful.

Hi, I used the Little White Bus, Swaledale Shuttle number 30. It runs from Richmond through Reeth and up the dale to Keld, and back again. Hope that helps!
