One little correction, the Ovari OVAs are not canon, I mean the fact that Krouser's is missing his Iconic mustache should be clue enough, but canonically the only love interest Terry has ever had is Blue Mary, and both tend to keep it pretty casual (which might be an inside joke at Mai taking her relationship with Andy too seriously)

Also most dont know that The creator of street fighter (Takashi Nishiyama) made Fatal Fury (also Terry) after going to SNK and was in development about the same time actually. Also Nishiyama envisioned fatal Fury as a spiritual successor to Street Fighter. It takes a long time to make games Which SF2 came out February 6, 1991, FF November 25, 1991, and other clones or competitors came out over a year or 2. FF was the first fighting game to reach home system as well on the SNK. It took 2 years for SF2 to be made which as you see takes a longer time to make games then which shows they were made at the same time. Also that Terry has appeared in the most fighting games out of any other character.
In short Smash is at its core foundation Ryu/Terry. Also most outside of the US know Terry better. US audience are in a bubble.
Smash players that dont know Terry are insulting smash and are not real gamers in a broad spectrum but narrow and should take a break from it and learn what is going on in the world if they dont know some basic info.

Ken, although a good guy, can sometimes be a bit arrogant and cocky, and constantly looks for challenges. Terry, on the other hand, is a super chill, easy-going guy who even has emotional moments (Plus Ken is rich and has a wife and kid, while Terry is poor and just has Rock)

Easy: The MVS Arcade Board SNK used was much cheaper. You had one, and you had the game in a separate cartridge, and that mean you could use one board for multiple games. Not only that, Capcom's increasing anti-piracy measures made them much more expensive, and pirated MVS boards expanded the popularity of SNK further (also the fact that they localized most games in Spanish and Portuguese).
