    I bought one last month
    Good car in general
    The 3 complaint you mentioned don't really matter to me
    I don't know how to drive manual ...and its very frustrating when you drive in the city with manual gearbox
    Hybrid is waste of money where i live and i get 650-700 km on full tank which is very good
    The AWD is a nice feature to have but a car this good looking will never go outside asphalt ... it's a sedan and its strong and steady enough in my opinion

As i said ...it depends where you live .... obviously gas prices is way higher in USA than it is in GCC .....also hybrid is not a 20 year technology here like in the us ...it has just been introduced to our area ....maybe 3 years ago there were no hybrid cars at all....and if you want them you have to buy the full loaded trim

    Great Video Dave.
    I just upgraded from my 2017 Mazda 6 to a (still new on the lot) 2018 Mazda 6 because of all the discounts and the reason I got the discounts is the same reason you have that list of 3 options the car is missing, not enough people buy them. I am sure Mazda would love to offer a Manual option, (basically leaving Honda as the only mid-size sedan with a Manual Transmission option left) but Honda can afford to do that because they are a larger company. Same with the Hybrid option. I am sure a Hybrid Mazda 6 is coming using Toyota hybrid technology as part of their technology share with Toyota. Same with an AWD option. Having the Turbo is great and I have been really impressed with its real-world fuel economy easily besting its sticker numbers. It's not using much more than my naturally aspirated 2.5L in my 2017 did about 1L/100km more which doesn't add up to much. The amount of improvements they made between the model years is phenomenal, it's such a better car. It's too bad not enough people buy them, of course, it's great for people like me who want to upgrade to the Turbo for much less than the sticker price.

  • @WJK1022
    @WJK1022 Před 4 lety +3

    Mazda technically didn't "drop" the manual option with the 2.5T, because it was never available with the turbo. They did drop it in the base (Sport) trim, which is disappointing. I have a 2016 Touring with the manual and had to sacrifice several features (heated seats, sunroof, premium sound) to get the stick. Also, it's silly to bemoan the lack of an eco-friendly hybrid option while pining for a manual transmission. With very few exceptions (WRX), auto- or CVT-equipped cars are quicker and more efficient. People like me buy the manual for theft-deterrence and driving engagement. Few others care.

  • @rizzlerazzleuno4733
    @rizzlerazzleuno4733 Před 4 lety +1

    Mazda offers quite a bit of different engines/transmissions/interiors in other countries. Since the 6 speed manual is popular and the normal trans everywhere but North America it would make sense for Mazda to offer it as a special order option, so people in NA that want one can order a 6 with a manual. Just go to the Mazda UK website to see all the differences that we don't get in NA. That being said, 98% of Americans want an automatic in their vehicle. If you really want a new car with a 6 speed manual the Honda Accord Sport has that option.

  • @andrew.woolman7449
    @andrew.woolman7449 Před 4 lety +4

    Everyman Driver, what do you think of the huge recall of Mazda 6, Mazda 3, and Mazda CX5 vehicles because of the cylinder deactivation technology? This is for the trims with naturally aspirated engines since the turbo engines don't have cylinder deactivation.
    Shame because Mazda ruined a reliable naturally aspirated engine by adding cylinder deactivation, which doesn't even help fuel economy all that much. Now none of Mazda's engines in the Mazda 6 or Mazda CX5 are reliable. I've been reading the Mazda owner forums and there are a lot of upset scared Mazda owners. A lot of them wish they hadn't bought a 2019 Mazda 6. The 2019 Mazda 3 has cylinder deactivation only in the Premium package so avoid that.

  • @billy6487
    @billy6487 Před 4 lety +16

    I have to address the whole "not having a manual transmission option". Less then 5% of all sedans sold are with a manual transmission, it makes no sense to offer this option with such a small % of manual sedans being sold. It is very costly to offer 2 transmissions for a mfg with little to no payback. On a sports car/muscle car it makes sense but, even in today's muscle cars most are sold with automatics. Not sure why the big deal of not having one. Most consumers in the midsize sedan market (which is shrinking rapidly) don't buy one to go driving mountain roads, they buy it as a family hauler/commuter vehicle. Plus most people have to sit in commute traffic where having a manual transmission in more of a hassle then its novelty. I learned on a manual and only owned manual cars until I had to be in commute traffic daily traffic. Also to address your other concerns, if you read about Mazda future plans, its to go upmarket. They have 2 rear wheel drive chassis in development with AWD as a component in the design. They also are in development with Toyota on hybrid technology for there future offering and full EV models. They have 2 new 6 cylinder engines under development , 1 with Skyactiv-X and a diesel (they should drop the diesel) the future products are exciting and cool to see a 6cylinder Skyactiv-X hybrid or a full EV. The prediction for the first product on the new platform is the next gen Mazda6 possibly out in end of 2021 or 2022. The further looks bright 👍

      You can't sell manuals if they aren't available.......how many people WANTED a manual but were told its not available??
      In Europe, over 50% of cars are manual......South America is even more....
      The manufacturers would rather make autos because they get slightly better mpg to make the CAFE standards.

      @modmatt1 Před 4 lety

      I am SO glad I bought the last model year which offered the Mazda6 with the mid-level trim (no complex, cylinder deactivation of turbo either). I use it to daily commute in NY traffic and no issues as the clutch is light enough so as not to be an issue and plenty of power to get up to speed. I use it as part time family vehicle with room for passengers and trunk space in a relaible, sporty package. A huge plus for me is that I get to have some additional fun while driving. I'm getting over 30mpgs in mixed driving and close to 40mpgs on longer highway runs. Agreed, bring the manual back at least in time for my next purchase.

      When the manufacturer offers them, the dealers seldom stock them. So buyers can't test drive exactly what they might want to order, and cars already on the lot are usually better deals.

      My son got a 2016 sport. He is very happy with the car . no problems ( 48,000 miles ). We changed tires after the fourth year due to dry rot. NBD. He constantly gets around 38 MPG. I was impressed enough to buy a 2020 Sport last week and I LOVE IT ! 41.6 MPG on first drive. Safety Suite and cylinder deactivation are an impressive addition to the base model as STANDARD.
      People that I speak to that have owned or do own mazda in the last 10 years are positive about their experience. the only issue that i've see or heard, that is common complaint , is that the lower end / rockers or fender lip is a popular spot for rust. This could happen with any car. FTW ! mazda makes as good an automobile as honda or toyota . Also, I preffer the 6speed auto trans , rather than the CVT in most other cars .

    Thanks for the quick and comprehensive review. I like a manual transmission, but my wife refuses to learn. So it's impractical in my house. With 6- and 8-speeds and CVTs, automatic transmissions are just as good as manuals with respect to fuel economy. Also, the paddle shifters ease some of the no-manual pain. Final point on stick shifts: it's a sedan; if you want to drive a sports car, get a sports car. I agree that a hybrid would be a nice option. Thanks again.

    Dave, firstly here's what bothers me about this video. Very very few people want a manual transmission in the US so why would they engineer a manual with so few sales? Think about it, so few cars in the US are manual. Buy an MX-5 if you want zoom-zoom with a manual! I've heard it said that if you don't want your car stolen in America buy a manual because they are so rare!!!(I'm from Europe) Secondly this car doesn't have a hybrid because you would need a CVT for a hybrid which kills the refinement and driving pleasure of a car with a CVT!

    Mazda is killing me because: The Signature trims don't come with black leather option, I prefer the aluminum dash trim instead of wood, and they really need remote start standard (on same fob). Falling behind badly there. Also, push button / touch gas door would be nice. My 2019 6 GTR is fantastic!

      It was already engineered for this model already in the N/A model, so the large costs were already accounted for. Dropping it for the sport and Touring models will make me shop elsewhere for my next purchase. Can Mazda afford to lose the existing "zoom-zoom" customers they already have? As much as I love the driving experience with my Mazda6 (with manual), I know I won't be back unless they offer a manual.

  • @subvet3668

    Totally agree about the lack of a manual. Even with their 3 they dropped to a cheap torsion rear, underpowered six year old powertrain and relegated to one trim only for manual. They used to be the benchmark with their zoom zoom motto. It’s a shame they’ve left that behind. At least Honda still does it right.

    Only problems I see what this car is quarter mile time the 0 to 60 time don't quite add up with the manufacturer horsepower and torque claims. I have seen a new turbo Mazda 6 get beat pretty good bye a bone stock Fiesta ST in a drag race. My guess is the new 2 liter turbo Nissan engine is a better choice , if that's what you're in the market for. Skyactiv technology????? Probably not going to hold up for the long term most Mazda engine dont. This car is a leaser, not a purchase.

      You gotta figure if Toyota trusts Mazda enough to put their logo on cars Mazda builds for them, they will hold up. That and Mazda is ranked highly in a lot of reliability rankings right up there with Toyota and Lexus.

      Toyota and Mazda are currently building a manufacturing plant together in Alabama.
      When I was managing auto repair shops I had 4 high milage CX-5s come in. They were in great condition inside and out. This car is not well made for the price they are asking. It begins with the flimsy cheap hood prop. It looks like it is made from a coat hanger. For $35,000 Mazda was supposed to use hood struts. Next comes the sheet metal. It is thin as a sheet of foil. Look how the trunk closes here 2:54 it looks like it's about to fly off. Next is that frame-less rear view mirror - the glass will fall out on a hot sunny day because they used cheap glue to hold it in place 1:13. Inside the glove box the material is soda bottle plastic. The gas mileage is awful. The leather on the steering wheel is too thin and won't hold up. The car is under powered and all the plasticky stuff inside is thin and and not substantial. Wayyyy too much cost cutting. The little bit of leather that they give you is just masking the cheap materials used underneath. Don't even get me started on all the rattle's that will show up.....Been there done that.

  • @ELPJM09

    When buying a car mid size car, people usually have Toyota Camry and Honda Civic on their top lists. Mazda’s just don’t hold up very well after many years and their reliabilty is questionable. Mazda should just leave the American car market. Mitsubishi should do the same.
