Mr. T. Rogers you should be proud to have such a supportive and wonderful Grandpa, and family, especially your supportive, handsome, extremely fun and favorite Uncle Ron. Not many young people would care let alone dedicate their life to such a restoration project. Your Uncle Ron is extremely proud of you.
Nice work, I was once a auto painter couple decades ago . I've done this outside a few times as well on my own stuff. Roof is always the hardest section to paint..ive used 5 gallon buckets, 3 per side , to walk on as I'd shoot the roof..Love the color. Thinking of doing my 64 nova in that. With a silver roof.
Looks good I painted a few cars outside in my back yard and they came out just fine. All that money you saved doing it yourself can be spent on other things.
Yep I've painted very expensive cars outside with little dirt to worry about of course you have to buff every car but it wasn't as bad as you think came out show showroom status. It's all about the painter not the spot u paint it. Obviously you can't paint in a windy ass dusty day but on a calm cool day you could pretty much paint anywhere.
i seem to remember taking a ride in that car about 30 years ago,Trent, looks like you are going to have to pick uncle steve up sometime for a cruise around the square to bring back memories.
Respect, young man! Been at it fot over 30 years and still have a suction feed spray gun. Forget what the haters say. Because they cannot lead by way of actions. You just have done so. In fact, I have been so moved by your efforts, I am prepared to donate, YES gor free, a SATA spray gun, (gravity feed) from my collection to you. I take care of all my babies, That suction red gun creates a lot of overspray and uses a lot of material! Remember one thing though, you will need a jeck of a compressor for any professional gun!!!
At first, I thought.....wow! This car has had about 20 paint jobs......then: I said to myself, gramps can barely lift the gun let alone see through the full face mask. But.....but! It turned out bad ass!! I’m actually impressed🧐
Cool to see the efforts put into this ride, I'm sure it'll end up in great shape. I plan on redoing my truck soon as I get the chance, but I plan on building a paint booth out of PVC tubing for the framing and rolls of plastic sheets. This way I get out of the elements and have a cheap paint booth. I would not do it outside in the open, too much extra work redoing the flaws from bugs and dust and other flying debree.
Is that Polamar red? That's the original color of my 63 SS my Father bought it for my when I was just a kid around 31 years ago. I'm slowly working on it now stripping car to bare metal. Could you post some videos on the rust patch panel repairs? Car came out nice especially for an outside job. I'm going to paint mine a newer Chevy color.
We used base coat clear coat. So we used one gallon of palomar red, thinned at a 1:1 ratio to 2 gallons. Then we used 1 1/2 gallons of clear coat on top of that. Thanks for your interest!

There is a barn on either side of where we are painting, and you typically don’t paint in a day where it is windy and overspray would be a potential issue.
OMG, that thing is in no way ready for paint! bondo everywhere, you need to prime and block at least 3 times to level out the surface. Being a professional painter by trade for 30+ years this is hard to watch. :(
Well rest assured the paint turned out exactly as I wanted it to. Fantastic! The person painting the car is my grandfather and he has been painting cars the same way since about 1965. All of the cars he has painted turned out great.

Your paint job will only be as good as what's under it. You should take it to metal with a car that old!
