Very helpful. Knowing how to drop the steps when stuck in extended position is very valuable. The wire color codes help too.

If your steps are stuck in the closed position and the 3 bolts are inaccessible, and the front pin is hard to remove, you can remove the 4 screws on the housing to remove the main part of the motor. This will drop the steps easily and quickly.

We were almost on the road from Farragut TN to Newberry South Carolina. Our steps would not retract. Thanks to you and about 20mins. we headed out. 😊What is the chances we need a new motor for it?

Love to hear a success story!! Depends on what the steps where doing. You can plug the motor back in and not put it back in the gear box, open and close your door to see if the motor even operates. If it does, then 50% chance the motor is still good and maybe the steps got jammed up. If it doesn't work, could be bad motor, no power, or the door switch command isn't registering to tell it to operate. At that point you would need a meter or test light to diagnose. Hope you gave us a like and subscribed!! -Todd

great video! We have a 2017 Fleetwood 36H. Our steps open and retract ok, but when they do retract we hear the motor clicking for about 5 seconds. Sounds a bit like a machine gun honestly. Is there a way to override the steps so that they know when to stop closing OR could this be the motor on the unit. Appreciate any help!

Unfortunately not, the motor runs off of amperage. It sounds like the gearbox is stripped out. -Todd

Question! Once the motor is out for check up or replacement, do you need to know exactly what position of the motor rotor versus gear mechanism was before taking this part out or will the controller do it for you? Reason I’m asking is that I figured the controller was faulty and I replaced it but now the steps don’t close completely . What to do? Thanks

The motor works off of amperage to stop so placement of the motor shouldn't make a difference. Need to check and make sure there are no obstructions and lubricate the steps. Less resistance means less amperage to stop the motor. -Todd
