It'a quite common for a skater to fail a test. My daughter just passed her seniors yesterday (Yeah!!!!), But it took her two tries for pre-juv, three tries for junior, and twice for senior. Every other test she passed first try. She has skating friends who took several tries for intermediate and novice, which she passed first time. Yet, she failed her pre-juv first time and that is not common. So, it is not a failure of a skater to get a retry. And keep in mind, judges are very inconsistent between areas, and each other. Sometimes you wonder if they were watching the same test.
Thanks for posting this. This helped a lot of other skaters to learn how to prepare the test. So glad to hear that she has passed her test already and hope she continues to skate happily!!
I applaud you for showing a failed test. Most only want to show success. Showing the failures helps many skaters and coaches understand standards and how standards vary regionally. Is your daughter a nervous performer? A part of me felt she wasn’t ready at this time and the other part of me could see that perhaps she was nervous, since timing, knee bend and going on the toes more are common when nervous. Anyhow, I saw in the comments she passed later on. Congrats to her! I hope you and your family are doing well.
I can't believe this test didn't pass just because of that one balance check on the loop. They must be expecting total perfection. Very discouraging for me, as I thought this was a really well-done test.
If the judges are usually strict or in a bad mood or you bobble at least once, that’s enough for a failure based on my experience. Once you hit Pre-Juv, I’ve noticed that judges expect pure perfection with zero error at all. Moves tests can be rough. I wish expectations weren’t extremely high because as a bad test taker, it doesn’t do good for my mental health and I get EXTREMELY nervous
@@scifigrl23 I could only see a stumble on one forward outside loop. Maybe a little wobble on one of the forward inside loops, but it didn't look too bad.
Wow I'm shocked they didn't pass you on this test! I'm about to test my novice MIF, so do you have any tips on these moves? Also, which moves did they give negatives on? This would help out a ton! I hope you tested again and passed! :)
Lack of speed, no flow, no energy. That one forward loop might have done it. The judges are looking for edge quality, quickness, and more precise placements of those turns and loops. The twizzles are the best.
@@lauribricker9439 I wouldn't say she had "no flow or energy"...she had some. This should have passed, or at least given her the opportunity to do a move over again. Very sad.
@@light3940 her counters had wavering edges and scrapes giving her a -2 (outsides and insides) and the loop had the touch down giving her another -1 meaning that her ability to redo the move would not bring her to passing.
Edit: After watching this back having done multiple testing sessions with students on this exact test, I can see a few different reasons why she didn't pass. I wouldn't call this a bad attempt at all, I would say that she probably would have had a couple points off in today's scoring if anything. 2 major issues, 1. Those counter and rocker chocktaw patters were HUGE. Not following the correct placement or pattern at all. They are looking for edge control and flow on those moves, and with huge patterns like that it shows you don't have control and are slowing the move down to execute it properly. 2. She did the loop pattern incorrectly. She added an extra outside loop for some reason. Idk if that was nerves or her previous coach told her to do that, either way, the stumble most likely wasn't a huge factor in that portion not passing. As so what I said below about the twizzles not being consistent, I still stand by that. She skates like she has taken ice dance lessons which in itself isn't a bad thing, but for this test, you don't want it to be dancy because the turns have an early push out sometimes which makes the execution sloppy for freestyle but perfect for dance. I hate how it's different. ORIGINAL COMMENT BELOW: Yeah it was pretty clear to me she wasn't ready for this test. She had no confident control over those moves, speed was seriously lacking, none of her circles were the same shape, and those twizzles were a very good attempt but you need to have a consistent number of rotations which she did not have. She also broke at the waste several times meaning she didn't have proper balance, also, PICK UP THOSE HANDS!! They were dangling like dead fish the entire time. Glad to hear that a coach change was all she needed. Sometimes skaters do well with different people.

if she didnt pass just because a loop she would have been allowed to re-skate the pattern, but it was more then the loop
She is a beautiful skater and heck, I'd love to be able to skate at that level! She should be proud of her efforts and keep on working at passing.
I like how USFSA just calls it re-try, it's more positive. Nice skating skills, I hope she passes (or has already passed) the next time.
Me too.
4 failures in a row, changed coach, passed on 1st try with new coach
Love that she posted this. That means she will succeed.
The loop was the challenge here, everything else she nailed unless I’m blind. I have cheated on my loop to an inverse bracket… FAILED. lol

Hi, it was the scraping and the twizzles as I recall. I will have my daughter reply, maybe the pattern issue also..
This was so beautifull. Where was the fault? don't understand
That was a good test though
Novice? Those are pretty advanced moves.
What did the judges not like? Was it just because of the touchdown on the loops?
pretty much plus .. will post more after we find the results

Did you take this Adult or Standard?
I think it was standard test for my daughter. What I recall that twizzles and ice scrapes were the main problem

@@light3940 yes, on 4th or 5th try

Beautiful test almost flawless. What BS
I would've passed that test. Was it super strong, no, but it was adequate.
