I think nothing can come close to the innate power of the original Spanish lyrics in their universality of love, but this is a very nice rendition that preserves the beauty of the music.
I love "Eres Tu" I didn't know there was a version in English, I just found out, so obviously I looked for it. Of all the renditions I heard, this one is by far, by far the best. Great job!
Such a lovely and beautiful rendition of "Eres Tu"! Of all the renditions of the original song that I've heard, this is the closest and the best. It has done great justice to a great song. Thank you.
lets go to do a little bit of history about this song. It was written and produced by the great spanish composer Juan Carlos Calderon for being sung by mocedades, an spanish group who sang it in Eurovision in 1973 this song was the second in that festival
Omg, nostalgia!! They used to have us sing this at school when I was little and the lyrics have stuck with me ever since. So glad I found this, thank you :)
I fear we are not related but I'm SO pleased you like our music! Looking back, it's a great pity we were not given the hit we fought for over the years but hey, we enjoyed the ride! In the UK one can download all our tracks from iTunes, Amazon etc. but I understand the US cannot, please let me know if this is the case. Bye Johnny.
It’s this one and it’s version in Spanish (eres tú by mecedades) are gorgeous. It always reminds me to my mother because it’s one of her favorite songs.
Johnny, this was always my favorite version of the song! I was a young teen in the 70's and songs like this touched my heart. You make great music.By the way,I wonder if we are related hopefully,my moms mom was a Wheeler and all her family came from England, I have done quite a bit of genealogy. My dad's side came from Scotland orginally, then migrated to Ireland before leaving for America. Can't wait to play more of your music.I'm depressed today and your music makes me happy.God Bless you for it
@mrrayjd Thanks for your kind comments! Unfortunately, although I'm still working every week, either solo or with my band, I have no video of a suitable quality to put on this site. I hope to be able to add something later. (There is a very old clip of 'Free Man Banned' playing 'Memory' from 'Cats' however). All my gigs are on Page nine of the Shirley and Johnny website. Thanks again, Johnny.
But there was also another rendition of the song. There were three different songs with the same melody there were by three different groups that same year so look up this one Go to youtube and type this in: "THE TOUCH OF LOVE" You will love this version. All three versions were hitched in their own countries and all over the world
@andylewisacidjazz Many thanks Andy, It's one of a couple of recordings we made that isn't available to download. It was the 'B' side of a single put out on RCA in 1972, penned by Mel James. Part of the song can be heard as you enter the Shirley and Johnny website. Thanks again, Johnny Wheeler
Johnny, this song should have been a major hit.Maybe it needed more publicity? All I can say is wow,how beautiful every time I hear it.Woke up this morning and came to youtube to play it again and again.I tried searching online to buy this but can't.They need to make a CD of this. All I can think of is to hold up my video camera to the monitor here and record, lol, not the same but at least I'd have it although I want to hear it in my car when we travel. This song needs to be on a CD!Love it!Take care
I've got the seven inch. "My Impersonal Life" isn't bad either. But "Lovely To See You" sounds like very little else from that time. The mix of moog, piano and Hammond puts me in mind of an early Style Council track from the 80s,not something from 74. It's an incredible thing. Thanks for getting back to me!
I sent a link for. The song the third rendition But it put the link above the paragraph that I already spoke about so read what I said first and then press the link above it you will love it
@andylewisacidjazz Hi Andy, due to your request, I'm working on a Video of 'Lovely to see you', should have it on YT soon. I just wish I had more photos of us as a trio! Thanks for your kind words. Johnny Wheeler
As with many songs originally written in a 'foreign' language, the English version is not necessarily a direct translation. As we didn't write the lyrics, I have no idea why 'Touch the wind' was chosen, sorry.
Better? Possibly, but there are six of them, only three of us. So we had to perform ALL the harmonies between us, no backing vocalists. I guess it's a matter of opinion?
Yes we did 'tweak' the lyrics a little (much to the disapproval of Mike Hawker). We didn't like a couple of the lines he wrote so made subtle changes. The credit for the vocal arrangement must go to the sadly deceased Andrew Pryce Jackman.
The music is nice, and the vocal melodies are pleasant and well done. But the translation is an absolute travesty! No resemblance whatsoever to what is sung in Spanish!
I think you will find this is not uncommon. Translations of lyrics are seldom word for word as it would generally not scan correctly. However, I'm pleased you find the music 'nice' and the melodies 'pleasant'. Not quite what we or the composers would have preferred I'm sure. Your opinion does count though, so thank you.
Damn, I loved this tune when I was a kid. I love it as much now as I did then. So good to hear it again
Thanks Steve.
me too!
Best 👌 ❤version.
great version, best wishes from Spain, you catch the spirit of the original version
Thank you!
I think nothing can come close to the innate power of the original Spanish lyrics in their universality of love, but this is a very nice rendition that preserves the beauty of the music.
Thanks Elizabeth.
I have never been able to find an english recording as good as "Eres Tú" until now!
Thank you x
beautiful! i can picture the spanish lady singing from the eurovision!. its such a lovely song!
I love "Eres Tu" I didn't know there was a version in English, I just found out, so obviously I looked for it. Of all the renditions I heard, this one is by far, by far the best. Great job!
Thank you for the positive comments!
There's more English versions of Eres Tu. Not just TTW, which is usually English.
Such a lovely and beautiful rendition of "Eres Tu"! Of all the renditions of the original song that I've heard, this is the closest and the best. It has done great justice to a great song. Thank you.
Wonderful version of a most beautiful song!
Beautiful song in any language.
Takes me back to the 70's! This song sticks in your mind forever!
The best song ever!!! Peace and love!! I prefer in spanish.
I really love this song since I was in grade school❤

Beautiful song, beautifully done! Just lovely!
This is the best version of touch the wind that I have ever heard. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much for posting this gorgeous song, make me feels so proud of my roots.
I've heard numerous versions of this song and the lyrics are all different. Still a beautiful song
"Lovely To See You" is one of the greatest records ever made. Someone should get that up on CZcams...

charo sang this on the 2004 MDA telethon in memory of Mattie stepanek.

This is not the original version. The original version is Spanish.
Spanish version is the best.
obvious
@45jwheeler Great! Let me know when you've done it- there's a lot of people who wouldn't mind hearing it.
Thanks, I can't see a problem with that as long as it's OK with Universal Music's rules and regs eh!
Wow!! I never heard the English version before!
I really like how you tweaked the lyrics a bit.
Nadie se acuerda de quién fue el primero en esa edición del Eurofestival. 😁

@andylewisacidjazz Hi Andy, due to your request, I'm working on a Video of 'Lovely to see you', should have it on YT soon. I just wish I had more photos of us as a trio! Thanks for your kind words.

Please explain the " it is you" as touch the wind.
As with many songs originally written in a 'foreign' language, the English version is not necessarily a direct translation. As we didn't write the lyrics, I have no idea why 'Touch the wind' was chosen, sorry.

Maybe 'cos it's MANY years old? Plus, you can't dance to it! Thanks for your comments Jon.
Cant dance to it? Oh please. Its possibly not quite as slow as Id like, but it makes great swing tune :)

SONG
????
Se la piratearon a Mocedades
Pero se escucha super de luxe
En español suena mejor.
I hope this is a good comment :) Sadly I don't speak Spanish.
It means: In Spanish it sounds better
The music is nice, and the vocal melodies are pleasant and well done. But the translation is an absolute travesty! No resemblance whatsoever to what is sung in Spanish!
