During the 1980's and into the 90's Phase ll were a very popular band in the High Wycombe area. They recorded this track in friend, Johnny Wheeler's flat in the early 80's. He produced it on his Tascam 3440 reel-to-reel tape recorder. A very limited choice of mics etc. were available, only a Roland 301 for fx. - A Very ExcellenT version,EsPecial The MusicaliTaTion...~😀🌠🎸
The image at 8:32 of AMERIKANIS at Alang is copyrighted and no permission was requested for its use. It should be copyrighted Peter Knego 2001 with a reference to my MidShipCinema CZcams channel. This shot was taken from my On The Road To Alang DVD. Thank you.
this was a great walk down memory lane.. She was a favorite ship of mine when she would come to NYC. My brother took me aboard in Sept of 70 or 71. We visited Kungsholm, Homeric and Amerikanis. She seemed so mod, being recently rebuilt. She seemed virtually brand new. As an 8 year old, I dont think I appreciated the heritage that she and Homeric brought to the table at that time..❤ One small correction point... the image of the ship at 8:31 appears to actually be the birth of Amerikanis, and not the death... on her forec'stle is the former Kenya Castle large forward mast and cargo booms. I would say she was not quite finished in this image. The next image is actually very sad, seeing her iconic funnel laying in the sand upside-down and abandoned...:-( 💔💔
Hi Sea Trav. Sorry mate but you're incorrect. It IS the dismantling of the Amerikanis. The Chandris X is clearly visible on the funnel and the decaying Amerikanis sign tells us it was the end! If in doubt, see the Facebook pages dedicated to Chandris Line ships. Loads of info on there.
I understand what your saying.. but: 1: the new extension in the forward part of the vessel is naked metal, 2. The old mast from the Kenya Castle is clearly visible 3. there are no radars on the New mast, which is also unfinished metal. While the X is on the funnel, Chandris had a habit of putting the X on the funnels as soon as the purchased their ships to show owner ship. and finally, the ship in port, quayside. She was delivered to Alang and beached. Which is decidedly dirtier and would have other ships being scrapped around on the beach...@45jwheeler

That song l've wanted.... Long time never heared this song...
I was the ships nurse for the year June 1970 to 71. My name was Liz Winter, I still hzve fond memories of the ship and the ports we visited, went on to spend 5 years working in Bermuda and spending another year on the TSS Carnivale in the late 70s. St Thomas was my favorite port of call and I was married there
You must have been on board when Shirley, Mel and I were entertainment staff.
We sailed on the AMERIKANIS in the early '80s when she was Costa Cruise Line. I wish we had one more time on her. She was fantastic. The last time we had seen her, she came zooming out aft of us from the submarine base at St. Thomas in 1994 or 2002. What a fantastic ship.
Andy Lewis' feature in Shindig brought me here.
Please expand on this comment. Not sure what it means.
great song the adaptation to the english sounds very good,...
Now i know that eres means wind, ere is eres also. We Filipinos know it as just ere... : )
I sent a link for. The song the third rendition But it put the link above the paragraph that I already spoke about so read what I said first and then press the link above it you will love it
czcams.com/video/QJHhTToZp78/video.html&feature=share
But there was also another rendition of the song. There were three different songs with the same melody there were by three different groups that same year so look up this one Go to youtube and type this in: "THE TOUCH OF LOVE" You will love this version. All three versions were hitched in their own countries and all over the world
I need a women’s barbershop arrangement of this song.
Well, feel free to do one......
I've heard numerous versions of this song and the lyrics are all different. Still a beautiful song
What a lovely video of a different time amd long lost style of cruising. I used to see the Chandris ships amongst others running in and out of Southampton as a child. You can't beat the looks of the old liners BUT I've got to say the modern ships although uglier are far nicer inside. Could have done without the last bit of the vid though 🙂
Yes the demise of the old Amerikanis was tragic.
I just love these songs, they're SO GOOD!!
😊😊😊😊😇😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I love this song by you guy's!!!!!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Me encanta.
Damn, I loved this tune when I was a kid. I love it as much now as I did then. So good to hear it again
Thanks Steve.
me too!
My dad John Braisher sadly passed away 2 weeks ago and the funeral is this Thursday. He was the original bassist in the original line up in Jimmy Mac And The Beatfinders... I dont think they released anything on vinyl but it was a lovely touch to see his name on this video. Plus what a cracking scene High Wycombe had in the 60s through to the 80s.. And The Nags Head was the place to be... RIP JOHNNY B xxx
Hi Taz, Slag Slater informed me last week of Johns passing, such sad news! We were best friends at school and used to play our guitars together during lunch breaks. We both joined bands later. I would definitely have been at his funeral but, typically, I have another engagement that day. Kind regards to you and your family.
@@45jwheeler no worries mate and thanks for the info... Taz
Love it
I love "Eres Tu" I didn't know there was a version in English, I just found out, so obviously I looked for it. Of all the renditions I heard, this one is by far, by far the best. Great job!
Thank you for the positive comments!
There's more English versions of Eres Tu. Not just TTW, which is usually English.
AWSOME song !!!!!!
This song is so beautiful...sweet memories...
The Amaia's versión is the best forever.
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Please explain the " it is you" as touch the wind.
As with many songs originally written in a 'foreign' language, the English version is not necessarily a direct translation. As we didn't write the lyrics, I have no idea why 'Touch the wind' was chosen, sorry.
best english version.
Thank you!
Never
Music should be without border.sweet melody should be shared by everyone.because we are the world.
I think nothing can come close to the innate power of the original Spanish lyrics in their universality of love, but this is a very nice rendition that preserves the beauty of the music.
Thanks Elizabeth.
SONG
????
i don't understand Spanish but i love the Spanish version the best and the version sung by Mocedades
I have never been able to find an english recording as good as "Eres Tú" until now!
Thank you x
The music is nice, and the vocal melodies are pleasant and well done. But the translation is an absolute travesty! No resemblance whatsoever to what is sung in Spanish!
I think you will find this is not uncommon. Translations of lyrics are seldom word for word as it would generally not scan correctly. However, I'm pleased you find the music 'nice' and the melodies 'pleasant'. Not quite what we or the composers would have preferred I'm sure. Your opinion does count though, so thank you.
great version, best wishes from Spain, you catch the spirit of the original version
Thank you!
Nadie se acuerda de quién fue el primero en esa edición del Eurofestival. 😁

Thanks for posting this Johnny. I spent time as a saxophonist and Musical Director on the Amerikanis in '90 and '94. She was a beautiful old ship, and sure brings back lots of memories.
Very cool post. Gene Crowley is (was) my grandfather. If you could find it in your heart to send me copies of any pictures you may have of him, I would gladly cover any costs. Please let me know!
I believe we may have already been in touch via email Matt? Sadly we didn't take many photos in those days so I don't have many pics from the Amerikanis and none of Gene. Sorry. We did meet up in London a few times after we left the Amerikanis. It was always a pleasure as he had SO many anecdotes from his long career in the business. A lovely man.
@@45jwheeler Oh, okay. I wasn't sure, as I don't recall seeing this particular video before, but I must have reached out from a prior post of yours that I had seen. Thank you for the reply, and the kind words about Grampa Crowley. Have a great day!

Love listening to this. Another classic that should be more well known. Incredible singers.
It has to be said - by far the best version of this famous Burt Bacharach song. Wonderful vocals and lush production, it proves once more how many superb songs there were around that masterpieces like this just didn't make it - an embarrassment of riches! Great evocative photo's of the period too. Just wonderful.
Thank you so much, very kind words.
@@45jwheeler Thank you! for uploading your material and images from your career. Thankfully CZcams now gives new life and exposure to wonderful music which otherwise couldn't probably be accessed. I did wonder if you were present when the single was produced, or did you add your vocals to an existing track?
@@pauldunn81 We were always present on our sessions. It was a large session with about 30 musicians at Philips Studio, Stanhope Place, London. Same studio as Dusty Springfield and the Walker Brothers recorded in.
@@45jwheeler Yes, now you've said that you used the same studio as the other performers it's possible to hear that. I'm a huge fan of orchestras and (used to at any rate) buy tickets to see performances on a regular basis, be they pop, classical or other genres. It sounds like a very delicate balance had to be struck between the cost implications of using such a large orchestra, studio time and getting the finish wanted. I remember seeing a documentary where Madeline Bell was explaining that Dusty Springfield was effectively a producer on some of her output, yet was never credited for it. At the risk of this becoming a question and answer session for you, thanks for your time and observations, and it sounds like you have some wonderful memories of being involved in what I consider to be the golden age of pop music-the late 60's and early 70's.
Se la piratearon a Mocedades Pero se escucha super de luxe
