  • Welcome to this special part of my channel.
Info for people who like some history:-
All the tunes were remastered from the original tapes and records.
John and Alex Milton and friends:-
John and Alex started off with an old mono Fidelity tape recorder. Everything had to be played live at that time. Over the years the main tape recorders changed to a twin track Beocord 2000, a Beocord 2000 deluxe and lastly a Teac 3340 four track tape recorder. In some cases only a two track mix down cassette of the original recording still exists. The Teac allowed for some additional instruments to be added.
Two violins were used. John Milton had his father's violin and later on also a deeper toned German violin. He used both either with or without mutes. John experimented with different microphones and equalisation too which gave different tonal results particularly with the violins. Microphones used were Bang & Olufson, Shure, AKG and Sony.
Alex had a Farfisa electric piano, a glockenspiel and a Crumar Stringman and a Crumar Jazzman. The Crumars were capable of splitting the keyboard to play bass notes and were very expensive in their day. The bass sounds were used in their own compositions but not in the swing tunes.
    Sunday Sessions
John and Alex would go down to their Aunt and Uncle's house on Sundays and recorded some tunes there with their cousin Betty Milton. Surviving recordings include Daphne and The Flight of the Bumble Bee.
