  • As we celebrate the birthday of Dr Nkrumah, we bring you a never seen nor heard account of how he reacted to the coup that ousted his government. His own account shows that he twisted the coup to the point where he was issuing instructions to Ghana embassies abroad. He also berated the reaction of his foreign minister Quaison Sacker and other ministers who were with him. See text and video... 8mins.

In my opinion, if the full number of Presidential Guard Unit Detachment was on post at Flagstaff House, at the moment of attack, it's highly possible the coup would have been thwarted.

I am pro Danquah-Busia. But studying in the United Kingdom, I have come to understand that all coups that happened in Ghana
were championed by people who were extremely naïve and never considered the long term effect.
Nkrumah had a long term vision but our people, being ignorant of the neo-colonists and imperialists, USA & UK, were used for their own interest.
Nkrumah vehemently warned us against them but Ghanaians and even as of now are still blinded by the treacherous and heinous acts of the West as we still hail them as Angels.
Nkrumah observe the West since he studied in both US and UK and he was more bent on outright independence from the west with no interference.
Until Ghana gets a leader who will be bold enough to change our educational system(curriculum that emphasise reasoning and rationalisation),
develop a national policy that is bigger than any political party, chiefs, people's parochial interest, or tribal sentiments, our development will still be hindered.

“A united Africa,” who will govern it? Is it from a disunited people of Africa or a ghost from another world unknown? Africa, by this I mean sub-Saharan Africa, can only be governed unitedly if the peoples of Africa have a common philosophy of life, that’s a common way of doing things. There’s too much dissension amongst us. Only a common approach to life, bred by common life philosophy, can unite us. The Greek philosophy united Western Europe. Confucianism united the Chinese. Africans would need a common belief shared by many amongst them to be united in politics and economics.

Dr. Nkrumah was a very intelligent man except that he was surrounded by very stupid elites who considered themselves educated but couldn't solve any problems. Naturally, Nkrumah was born a leader but the improbity of the people around him caused his downfall as he was eventually reported to the central intelligence agency based on false claims. Envy and jealousy is not always about the wealth of people and that is why he was able to destroy all the clandestine activities of the C.I.A as a single individual. Notwithstanding, it is natural that people with low IQ tend to discuss people than solve problems which is why most of the people who were against Nkrumah were people who couldn't solve simple problems. Gossips always tend to be jealous people and anytime you listen to them, you could tell that they are very low in understanding. Nkrumah was the only leader at that time who could solve enigmatic problems of the country especially those from the C.I.A and that is why they hated him. He did not have the time to discuss people even though he was far better than them. Most importantly, all those who hated him, in the likes of yeboah, Halidu Giwa and kotoka all died in a gruesome manner. They left all the bad things they were doing in the country to blame Nkrumah, setting spies over him while the fault was from themselves.

This is how I know some of you don't understand constitutionally elected governments
Try to think of that detention act in the larger context. First it was an British creation that was used against the CPP, initially. But the opposition to the government developed into a conspiratorial organization that tried to sabotage the Ghanaian government. As all nations do in time of crisis they take preemptive measures to suppress such activity. Remember, Nkrumah survived 5 assassination attempts. That detention law was an instrument of necessity at that point, the west was placing a deliberate economic squeeze on Ghana which adversely affected it's economy. No one questions western nation when they arrest seditious citizens trying to overthrow their governments. The Ghanaian government of that day exercised the same right as a independent republic. I don't see a difference.
We must also remember, no one died in detention because of the CPP. Jail and prison was carried out in a humane manner as well. That's unprecedented.

The industrial, agricultural, and economic developments were initiated when he became leader of government business. We must keep in mind that the first and second five year development plans, went from 1951-1956, a two year consolidation plan 1957-1959, and the second five year development plan, 1959-1964. The great degree of success in those plans established the infrastructural basis for the Seven Year Development plan, 1964-1970, which was to be the scientific and technological development of Ghana.
President. Nkrumah utilized every moment of his office to place Ghana in the forefront of nations and to build a union of Afrikan states under a federated continental government. The entire paradigm was to change not just for Afrikans on the continent, but for Afrikans everywhere, and that's something people have not understood. That impact would've free us all outside of Afrika as well.
However, we're still working on it.

Another hypocrite. 30yrs of democracy in Ghana and nothing is relevant in that rotten country. Instead of you to acknowledge the real man who was incorruptible and could have made Ghana as developed as the US and others, you're acting like you're not being exterminated by the foreign cooperations who are back exploiting your resources. Ghana will never develop. Mark my word. For your pro western fat belly intellectuals like JB Danquah Busia etc all sold Ghana out for pots of maggots offered by the CIA and their allies
