    Thank you. I'm a new biker. Got my license at 64. Your trip is inspiring. I saw an old bumpersticker that said, "You won't see a motorcycle outside a shrink's office."

    Just got a bike. Haven’t road in over 40 years. From Indianapolis. Spoke to you about 4 years ago. Going to riding school in 2 weeks. Wish me luck. I’ve watched your videos at least 7 times. Be safe.

    So I guess I'm a little late to the party but i'm real glad I found you. I'm 72 and just got back into riding a few years ago after a rather lengthy hiatus. I have three bikes in the garage but my favorite might be my KLX 250. I haven't taken a trip quite as long as yours on it but really enjoy camping off it for a couple of weeks at a time. I love the style and pace of your video....real easy, not to serious ,take it as it comes. Happy motoring my friend. :)

    Echoing everyone else's comments ... I love watching your videos and have been waiting for this series to start since I've been reading your RR. I know they are a ton of work to create, so thank you.
    You have a unique style (this is meant as a compliment) and add info that no one else does in their videos.
    Also, I can tell that you are just a good person that is passing along the message to enjoy life as our time here is limited.

    Excellent so far. Really enjoyed this video. I have been motorcycle touring and moto-camping for 20 years. I took a very similar rout to this one about 8 years ago. Great journey. One comment, although I love coffee, if I drank as much as you apparently did in this video, i'd have to use a catheter and collection bottle while riding. Either that or I'd be stopping every 30 minutes for a rest room break.

    Hi Tim, I like your video a lot, you are an inspiration, really!
    I have just noticed that you putted a BMW logo on your Yamaha WR250R.
    I have a blue BMW GS 800 and I though that BMW was offering this bike only in USA (I am from Canada). So I tried to found one here until I jump to the conclusion that that they don't build such a tinny bike :).
    Keep going with your video, they are awesome!

    • @tewster2
      @tewster2  Před 7 lety +5

      Haha I put the BMW logos on the bike for shits and giggles! I almost had a bunch of people convinced it was the new F250GS I was testing in the States before BMW announced it for sale! I'd pulled all the Yamaha stickers off the bike.

    Hey Tim! Just discovered your channel (saw the word "Alaska", couldn't resist), and watched this first episode of your epic journey on the tiny bike. Wonderful! Love your style, and I know I'll enjoy the other episodes just as much!
    In just a month (end of September), I'm moving into my tiny travel trailer (14 feet), and moving myself to Alaska (from Washington state). :) I'll enjoy a leisurely drive up the AlCan Highway. My little trailer is already fortified with extra insulation all around (nicely done by previous owner, a custom home builder from cold MN). I'll be installing a small wood stove (it also has a good propane furnace), along with a few other nice mods to make it very comfortable. I'll be living in it until I can build my tiny off-grid cabin in lovely Alaska.
    Now I'm going to go enjoy episode two! :)

    I'm curious; the WR250R has a 35" seat height. I noticed you replaced the original seat with a Day Long Saddle. Did this change the overall reach since the seat is wider? Did you do any links or work to decrease the seat height or are you tall enough to handle the bike with no problem? I have thought of purchasing a WR250R, but have been reluctant since the seat height is so tall.

    • @tewster2
      @tewster2  Před 8 lety +4

      Yep the seat on the stock WR is sky high. I lowered the back 2 inches and the front about an inch. The Russell with it's extra height brought it back to around 35 inches. I fart every time I get on and off the thing :)

    just started watching your Alaska trip. Also subscribed. My wife and I hope to ride to Alaska at some point. But next year we are doing a trip to Newfoundland. 2-3 weeks. Already started documented the 'preparing' section. Cant wait. We will be riding 2 VStroms. A DL1000 (mine) and a DL650 (hers). Keep riding!

    Hi Tim, great videos! Thank you. I am planning to ride to Alaska next June myself, so these are very helpful. Questions: a) Other than 'slowing it down', what were your other reasons to switch from a 1200 GS to a small bike?b) Why did you pick the WR250 and not a 650cc single cyl like the Kawasaki KLR or Suzuki DR which are built for the kind of riding you do? They are cheaper, simpler, provide better comfort and quicker when needed (on boring long highways).Just curious,

      @baltsosser Před 6 lety

      Mark me a third person curious on that one. I've done 5,000 on a 500 CC ride that was about as small as I have ever rode long distance on. I'd be interested to hear that answer. There must have been a thought process behind that idea. Fuel mileage to reduce fuel cost? Smaller bike to reduce that cost?

    Building a WR for longer distance. Can I ask what saddle or saddle plus mods you utilize on long distance days? I have the
    Seat Concepts and it is waaaay better than stock (2x6 vs 2x4? LOL) but after about 100 miles I’m wondering why my Russell Day Long (and my GS12!) is in the garage! Thanks in advance and enjoy your work!

    I was looking at 600's....but only because I'm short, like a 31" inseam. I'd never think of anything less than that mid-range size because I thought it would just shake my nuts off, too much vibration, etc. But- what was your own thought process?
    Would you not, in retrospect, make the same decision/choose the same bike?

    • @tewster2
      @tewster2  Před 7 lety +1

      Might have been a better option if I was traveling on the Interstate Highways but I was on tiny backroads and lots of miles on the gravel roads in Alaska. The little bike is so much fun and the comments from people I meet on the road are great!

      @baltsosser Před 6 lety

      I rode that stretch last year. When they say turn off the paved road in Kansas...and it's been raining for a couple of days previously, you better have a fully capable off road bike. They were serious.

  • @krobarrides9028
    @krobarrides9028 Před 6 lety

    How much off road experience did you have on 2 wheels? Obviously you have tons on 4 wheels. How did that help you on the Dalton? I am finding in my research that people are saying you need a couple years exp off road/trail riding to attempt that stretch of road.

    • @tewster2
      @tewster2  Před 6 lety

      Dont believe a word they are saying. The Dalton is just another dirt/gravel road and dirt and gravel is the same everywhere. There is nothing dangerous about the Dalton...only stupid riders make it so. Just slow down and pay attention like you would on any gravel road and you'll be just fine. Enjoy.

    Scott and Julie seem super cool. I would love to take a big bike trip but summers are my busy months. Maybe one day when I retire if my wife will let me. I drove through a deer at high speed last spring so she is thinking biking is not necessarily safe. I promised her I won't get another bike but the following week there was a Goldwing in my driveway. When she got home i told her happy birthday but two problems; she has no bike licence and it was not her birthday. Oh well I guess I have to drive it on her behalf.

    Excellent video! I see you have an adventure touring motorcycle, of which, I have been looking into. I'm 65 and have not ridden for several years. I am a short guy 5'4" but 175 lbs. Marine Vet. My problem is that the adventure bikes have tall seat heights. What bike are you riding? Make and model? Just curious. I have found that the Triumph Tiger 800 XrX has the lowest seat height option. Well, thanks for your trip video logs. They are interesting and well done. Take care.

    • @tewster2
      @tewster2  Před 4 lety

      Howdy! I'm ridding a Yamaha WR250...pretty tall. As for the Triumph, for me, way way too top heavy and cumbersome. I like lighter bikes. Seay height is important but overall reliability, ease of handling, able to be picked up easily when it falls over, and easy to maintain are paramount for me.

      @@tewster2 OK! Thanks for your input and for getting back to me. Really enjoying your videos! I was looking at the Super Tenere and then the Tenerae700 just came out. Both have very tall seat heights. Maybe a Honda CB500. I would like to be able to put both feet on the ground. Though short, I have longer legs than my torso. But, will check out that WR250. It might have a low seat option. I'll find out. Thanks a bunch!
