Wow... I think i owe my dead monsters an apology
I laughed for a second then remembered my dead monster and It turned into a sort of cry gag
Me@my 1month old zuum after it died from a fatal flame from Kitty ☠️
man, it's WILD that I've been playing this game for so long, yet didn't know a grand majority of this information (most of my """knowledge"""" comes from old 90s early community sources lol). This was incredibly informative. I get the feeling I'll basically be re-learning the game entirely from here on out, trying to break habits that have only been hindering me, but was able to get away with thanks to PSX MR2's extended lifespans... XD;;;
An informative Monster Rancher 2 video with funny editing? Man, CZcams recommendation worked really well this time!
Doin my best! Thanks for the nice words!
@@Moosebones you're welcome! It's incredible to see the MR2 community still active after so many years. Keep up the great work my friend! And greetings from Brazil ❤
Dope video! Wish I had content like this when I was kid struggling with this game 😂
Theres so much hidden info lol, most of it has been known for a really long time but we're still making new discoveries occasionally.
This is the type of video I have been looking for for years. I always wanted to try the Monster Rancher games, but it seems even more complex than Digimon and those games always discouraged me before long.
This may be a good preparation if a physical copy of the switch port ever drops.
The good news is that as obtuse as the series is, it's not nearly as punishing as Digimon World 1 is 1t regard to being a new player. There's a ton to learn though
Back then I used to learn the game on gamefaqs but people refined the strats way more and this channel is a bless!
A personal hint from me (as I'm not an expert, but a casual), pick any skill/speed related monster as your starter and you're good (Naga, Tiger, Zuum, Suezo, Kato, etc), those monsters in particular are a walk on the park for your first gameplay, I also recommend not doing INT builds at first because you need to have STR to break things on expeditions and you want to loot everything from the huts anyways, but some monsters works wonders like Hybrid (Suezo, Tiger and Zuum).
I hate slow monsters and techs that have low accuracy but you need to try yourself because I know a lot of people that like of this tank-and-hit gamestyle.
dude just downloaded the DX ver. your detailed about lifespan is crazy good. GGWP bros!!!
I like your monsters names! I played this sooo much and scoured the Gamefaqs back in the day and still didn’t know about some of this, like the life cycles being tied to sub breeds and more.
this is such a great video, thank you so much for making a video guide like this. i been interested in monster rancher for years but ive never been able to get into it, so im super hyped for the english port.
if ur still taking suggestions for guide videos, one about errantries or expeditions would be super rad
Yeah! I have less free time to make videos but my next one shout be out next week. A few ppl have asked about errantry and expeditions, so that might be next on the list, though they both definitely require their own video.
Thank you for this! I just found this just in time as the remastered was released.
All around awesome video! Thanks for the guide!
Dude, I stumbled upon your channel because I heard the news that MR2 is getting a re-release, and instantly search some videos up. I'm still 2 minutes in, but already subscribed and like the vid. Thank you so much, this game is my childhood.
Hell yeah! I'll be uploading some more super beginner friendly stuff near the release date of the re-release so people know what to look for in the new games.
@@Moosebones yes pretty please 🥺 I can't wait to finally finish this game when I get my hands on the re-release. Keep up the good work!
Video is excellent. Added memes really help with the commentary. Please keep uploading
Great video. Im so happy to experience the ps1 classics. Ive only played monster rancher 3, 4 and evo. I hope 3 and 4 in particular have re-releases
I know a lot about this game already but I'm just enjoying that a lot of people are finding this game for the first time and I'm coming for the ride! Can't wait to build a new ranch on the Switch for both games.
"Easy, once you know what you're doing." Big emphasis on "once you know what you're doing" which may or may not take a decade lol. I did eventually figure out to use/abuse items.
Thanks for the vid Nash! Really helpful
the music is bringing back so much! thank you for re-using the Monster Ranch 1 music
my stress level went up and 6 months were taken off my life span watching this video.
I killed my monsters so many times as a childhood and I never understood why.
Then when I got older and started using cheats to experiment with the game. And you really did a good job explaining the details
The last time i played this game was back in 1999/2000, i was 10/11 at the time. Now at the age of 32, almost 33, i'm thinking of going back and play the game all over again.
This video really helps me to understand the game more then when i did when i was still just a kid haha.
Appreciate the commitment 👏 🙏
I love your vids. MR2 is my childhood
Oh nice a video with a person actually explaining things.
Awesome guide! This really clarified the obtuse stress/fatigue mechanics. I also appreciated the explanation of life types. I knew that different monsters had different lifespans but I never really understood the function of life stages before. Thanks a lot!
Thanks for the video, I haven’t played this game since I was 10 and had no idea. Time to start training in the Dx version
Its so good to play MR2 again with DX on PC!
I was wondering why my monsters seem to not last long at 3 or 4 years. I did not know that even battles affect the lifespan!
I had suspicions that errantry does as well, but not to this extent.
This is of course without Golden Peaches to extend the life.
Big brain time took 12 takes makes this whole thing worth it
Amazing video , i knew part but not all, it makes things a lot more interesting, i wonder about my ez monster to train in MR1 that was an angel, i could easily use mailman and circus to raise speed skill and int very quickly , and just one errantry to get a 4 range attack with hit S and just spam it to win most battles .
4:32 Wilford strikes back, but this time with terminal Type 2 diabetes
extremely informative ty ty and TY
Thanks for those videos, you're right as the game is kinda easy once you get the hang of it, back then I used the gamefaqs for learn about the game, I'm going to challenge myself with this new game using a Pixie as starter (if memory serves me right, she is difficult to learn techs) and a golem because big monsters never was of my liking.
Henger Arrowhead and Durahan all have exo skeletons or mechanical/metal bodies, so oil probably helps loosen them up, hence why it reduces stress.
11:12, oh but there is a reason! All those monsters are metallic and the nuts oil lubricates them and keeps them shiny and all that.
Arrowhead isnt metallic/metalner doesnt get the bonus
Make sure you put them out on errantry every chance you get
Oh, that's news to me - does scolding and not giving items really screw stress up so much? I remember the ancient posts on MRM, and had the feeling that scolding wasn't so pernicious. And I had no idea that withholding items could be so bad. Maybe I was confused with withholding praise after a tourney or errantry? Damn :/
I started with MR3 on PS2 and just got the 1&2 port, and holy shit the learning curve for the PSX games is intense
1 is definitely easier than 3 but 2 is way more difficult
Nuts oil is used to shine the armoured carapace of Durahan, henger an arrowhead... To bad it's not included on beacon
I mean it was all coded manually so maybe it was forgotten
Doesnt work on metalner or worm other.
Oh man... Beaclon, Centaur, Henger and Pixie have low lifespan... Hooray for Kaito and Durahan.
Weird... I never raised Jill and Metalner before. :o
Metalner is an incredibly bizarre monster to raise casually. High skill and defense and bad stats otherwise.
urgh... I just remembered my 5 yr old white zuum.
my first Monster that I actually trained and the first one to die. I was surprised when the following scene is night time and then my zuum collapsed and his soul left the body and im like "NO WTF he died? I was sooo devastated so I reloaded his save, didn't entered the tournament coz he died after the tournament but still he died a few months later. 😭
yeah this is hella true. I played this shit from 8-12 never got past d cup, and about a year ago I remembered it, got the rom on my phone, and got to fucking s cup. learned to actually fucking go to the shop and read what's the items do lololo
Say i do have a question when it comes to combining. So in we much easier access to all the monster. That includes monster with elongated Life spams than regular. If you combined 2 monster and one of those had a bigger total lifepsam than usual for its species, would the combination take into account the lifespam of the parents or whats usual for the species?
Wow with this Formula, no wonder I need to use a gameshark to finish monster rancher 2 when I was only 6 years old!
My prince hare was not even 1 year old and colt already told me to retire the poor fella. Now I'm broke can't even buy milk for my new monster. I think starting over is the best course of action lol
Found this Just in time for the remasters! See you guys next thursday!
Just got announced for overseas !
Do u have guide for avdanced viewer ? I got error many times even with the right epsxe version and latest network frame version
wow this reminds me of pal world!
can we use MR2 AW with the stream version? i currently play on epsxe and it works fantastic but im afraid that it won't work on stream (i plan to buy the game on stream so...)
9:40 sorry what happens if you have a tournament in between the loop, how do u adjust accordingly? Thanks
Nuts oil the week of the tournament and nuts oil after. The tournament usually lowers your stress to 0 so you only have to worry about fatigue
Ducklon supremecy!!!
is there an updated version of the mr2 viewer for mr2 dx?
She's got legs!! And knows how to use them!!
Great great video!
If you could make achievements for Monster Rancher 2...What would you do? What would be challenging but fun? Any runs that would be challenging but not impossible? Is there a way you can get "100%"? in the game?
The 100% speedrun unlocks every mon and takes like 7hrs lmao.
Idk what I'd want for achievements, probably stuff like beat the game with a monster under 3 years old would be challenging but not impossible.
@@Moosebones awesome thank you!! I'm no expert on this game but a long shot 🤣
Hey does anyone know if there's a way to have advanced viewer if you're using the steam version?
Yes :) Join the discord for more info!
Can "Advance Viewer" work on the Nintendo Switch, iOS, or PC ports?
it's available for steam currently
So, something you didn't mention. Can I discipline it at all? Or should I just not discipline it when it cheats? I read something that said try to keep it on even is important
This is a great question, I'm making a super beginner-friendly video in a few weeks that'll cover this in more detail but here's the TLDR:
Discipline when your monster cheats or fails a drill will push up their Fear parameter- which helps raise loyalty - and their nature at the cost of adding stress. If you've got a good no-rest plan going you can discipline here occasionally, but the main thing is that until you're really comfortable with the inner workings of the game you should rely on the passive fear bonus from gemini pots or giving your monster magic bananas to raise their loyalty and just ignore discipline entirely. If your monster is becoming too bad natured just give them sour jellies.
Came out on the switch and iPhone I decided to get it on the phone for more portability even tho the switch is portable
T_T this is so sad, When i played this as a kid i tried every method of training but my monster only ever lived 3 - 4.5 years no matter what the monster was. I copied the exact monster and training method my friends used cuz theirs lived an average of 6 - 7+ years. But nothing worked... We just figured my game name was cursed.
Welp, MR 1 and 2 DX came out on steam just the other day, am not sure what they 'fixed'. =)
Expect a whole new influx of new players or at least renewed interest in the game.
Monster Rancher 2 DX is coming in two weeks. You should do content about it.
Does this no rest method work on the dx version?
Yep, it's still the best way to play without ripping your hair out. The new banana method is "optimal" but most people wont notice a meaningful difference.
Can this program cause a vac ban o steam? thx
Nope, wont cause a ban
I found out what I know thinks to Ngen.
I thought this game was about raising monster and making them fight with each other. Pokemon has EV and IVs this game has everything.. just wow..
Now that they've announced the Steam version, I hope you can turn this into a thing
the dream...
@@Moosebones Our Marble Guy who art in our dead monster shrine, hallowed by thine fists
@@phillipmitchell2254 Marble Guy is such a funny name to me and I think the comedy in it is completely accidental on tecmo's part which makes it even better.
@@Moosebones Exactly lol, also I understand Marble Guy in and of itself is probably a crappy monster but that was my first monster on MR1 that could one shot anything so he's special to me lmao
@@phillipmitchell2254 Marble Guy is actually the chosen mon for the MR1 speedrun. Golem is exceptionally powerful in Mr1 and 2 both casually and competitively.
I had a zuum live 14 years
Dicen que en ma versión Dx retoco los años así que me queda la duda si esto sigue en pie valido o no : /
This game still popular enough to have competitive scene?
I was wondering why all my monsters were dying before 2 years.
No wonder why my Monol starter monster always eats shit. This time I got him to A rank right before his 4th birthday but he's old now so I have to retire him.
Alright that's fine and dandy can anyone at all explain that +1 white box!?
the +1 white box literally just adds 1 to whatever the final result was. The number displayed already has taken the +1 into account. The reason this trips people up is because on a monster with bad gains you can actually roll a 0 which is then rounded up to 1 regardless, so a +1 on a 0 seems to do nothing. You also can't break the top threshold of 15 for light drills or 20 for heavy drills, so the +1 is pointless there too.
hiding type 2 diabetes in there. I see you
Wait, so you are screwed on Errantry no matter what???
Yeah it's always a loss. Have to factor it into your plan for every monster you raise
Why did a guy appear for one frame at 4:33 ?
It's a low effort joke if you know who he is
Some info about drug training would be beneficial
Got you covered czcams.com/video/WloZoKlYoFk/video.html
@4:32 ?? HAHAHA
How do i play this game tho? Emulator?
Remasters are coming to Switch and Steam
Play it on your playstation 1 lol.
0:18 -- aaaaaaaand this is why most preferred Pokémon back in the day
I am 100% getting this on pc so I can get a mod to ignore lifespan
type 2 monster... 4:32
Me and my friend who are now in our 30s just bought the steam version, ill be sure to destroy him thanks to some of this info because im sure he plays it the kids way =D
my only goal...
@@Moosebones jokes on me he has already seen your videos and recommended me to watch them xD
@@Fridge1990 rip the dream
@@Moosebones yep especially now we have discovered we cant battle each other online while in control of our monsters.. big RIP
Combining?
Working on it as we speak, wont be releasing it until after DX comes out though as it's an extremely heavy topic and I'll need to see if anything has changed. Lots of the math is different between the ps version of the game and the japanese switch port.
@@Moosebones oh and also have you tried Hare species? And Gold Peaches too. .
@@gabrielsapple3995 might get your wish on the gold peaches sooner than later
i think you forget theres a special item thhat you get in a expidition that ncreassse your lifespan for 1 year...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Monster farm 2 switch bring to global Tecmo
I just spend 15 minutes of my life watching a snail explaining how itself works
i just wanna point out that ANY game is very very easy ONCE you know what youre doing
When it comes to games with no mechanical skill yes
What sucks is if you play MR2 the same way you played MR 1 you’re doing it wrong. You’re pixie that lived 5-7 years in mr1 will live 2-3 years in MR2 and not be nearly as good bc of the nerfs to that monster.
I love how he suggests an extremely expensive training method and does zero to explain how he has so much money to afford it.
The guy’s a troll. There’s no way you can get your stats up to 999 AND make that much money without cheating. Your monster’s lifespan is shortened every time you compete, which is your main source of income. The lifespans are just too short to get those stats PLUS all that money.
He gives some great tips but definitely over promises. And the forced humor is so cringe.
I personally wouldnt have gone out of my way to explain that I suck at a game but you seem to be confident on your choice. I made a few other videos to help you get out of D rank whenever you're done whining :)
It's definitely possible to max out stats and make tons of money if you know how to play the game properly. It just shows how good MrMooseBones is to make it seem like cheating for inexperienced players.
@@Moosebones
I’ve already looked at your other videos, Mr. Bones Moose. It’s funny how you resort to insults because you can’t explain where the money comes from. You’re trying to deflect so you can avoid being honest. C’mon, man. It’s okay. You do know a lot about the game. Just don’t mislead people.
@@teawch
Lol you resort to a vague response because you don’t have anything real to back it up.
@@princeofpwnage22 feel free to watch his videos, this is the most obvious case of mad-cuz-bad ive ever seen.
the "design phiosophy" of this game is "pray to RNGesus" and theres no protips that are going to save you from the heavily skewed against the player odds. no matter what youre going to have to save scum CONSTANTLY. before every single action.
Skill issue tbh
You only need to save scum if you want to. There's definitely RNG but even without save scumming the game is very beatable once you understand the mechanics behind the game. Save scumming is usually needed when doing something precise for PVP builds within stat caps, or maxing stats especially on 1st gens, but for single player normal playthrough it isn't needed.
How is the game heavily skewed against the player? Given that more than enough information has been uncovered and disseminated about this game, it would be the player's choice if they do not look up the necessary info to raise any monster to be able to beat the game.
