    Great video. Aaron does such a good job teaching games,

    Achievements are only evaluated during that phase of the game. You have to be meeting the requirement during the Achievements phase and if so then you place your token on the matching space. You don't move your token if you meet the requirement earlier in the round.

    I enjoy this game, but I agree that it would be nice if there was a greater mix of events that were not all military. I think that it is crucial that you get your 3rd dice as early as possible in order to get high scores. After first play I shoot to get 3rd die by 2nd round, 3rd at the latest

    Thanks for the play through! Always fun to watch you guys play! I think Lincoln forgot to return his citizen marker when he changed his progress choice at about 56:45. Didn’t affect the end game score, or any subsequent plays, but just a little slip. I wonder if Lincoln would have won if he got the extra points on trade throughout the game.

    • @Polarbearsden
      @Polarbearsden Před 2 lety

      I think he would have been one short. He traded three times after getting that buff and he was 10 points behind at the end of the game.

    I really like the look of this one, plus I'm also very interested in ancient Greece, so the theme works for me too! I've a funny feeling this one could be joining my collection in the near future, although I', starting to face storage problems.
    As usual, you guys showed this game off perfectly and I really enjoyed watching this video.
    Did you play a second game after you finished recording? Who win, did Nikki score better... we really need to know!! 😂

    So with Lincoln's 9 missing points from trade he was only 1 point behind? very close game! (nice they catch it in the end game discussion!)

    I like that the city states guide the way you should play or give you different bonuses, Sparta was different from Athens and Thebes so that is sort of thematic. It seems watching this the events cards are heavily weighted towards war, I'm not a history expert by any means but I think Ancient Greek city states had more to it than just wars as events. I wonder whether playing this game you could possibly win with the events deck as is if you don't focus on the war track and stay at the bottom of it all game. Also seems you would probably need to get 3 dice out early as per previous comments.

    I've played this once - it was too random for my tastes. The die rolling each round didn't add anything to the game, and there wasn't enough compensation for a player who consistently rolled low numbers.

      @@7DadJ0kes7 it sounds silly but a lot of it kind of has to just do with the aesthetics of the board, it makes it look like a dull game, which makes me think it wouldn't hit the table as often
      That being said I'm not played it before, and after one play it might end up being something I really enjoy

      That makes 100% sense. There’s a lot that goes into a game purchase and continual play!
      Idk it seems to be hyped but I feel like I wouldn’t play it a lot. It just seems like it’s deceiving and going to be slow and not as thrilling.

      Yes, she is a very poor player. I know this is not meant as an expert tutorial, but c’mon, her play is atrocious. When you get philosophy tokens early, use them immediately. Get that 3d die, and/or get ahead on economy.

    CZcams needs to get a freaking grip. An ad every 4 minutes nearly makes the videos unwatchable. The game was enjoyable to watch. Not sure about the dice mechanic and whether it is really necessary. It almost looks like they were designing the game and citizens were too plentiful so they created a mechanic around lowering them.

    • @boardgamegeek
      @boardgamegeek  Před 2 lety +4

      Scott, thanks for pointing out the ads. I will remove them. I don't understand CZcams's ad placement either.

      @@boardgamegeek It seems to go utterly crazy once every 6-8 weeks for no good reason. It wasn't just this video, but I've had several that have been like it. If they think by doing it that they'll get a bunch of people buying the ad-free version, they're stupid. It's just going to hurt the content creators when everyone turns their ad blockers on. That's why I posted about it.
