Over the last two years Optimus Gryme (aka Charlie B) has evolved into one of Aotearoa's leading Dubstep pioneers. Last year he released NZ's first solo Dubstep EP 'Annihilation of the Ego' as well as releasing Aotearoa's first Dubstep 12" on his own imprint 'Optimus Gryme Recordings'. Charlie is now launching his debut album entitled 'Eclipse', which he has spent two years creating. The album showcases 11 original works and features remixes and collaborations with Billy Fluid, Truth, Organikismness, Fiona Soe Paing and Maraku Rewiti.
I've discovered New Zealand has got some of the best dubstep and DnB! They know how to manage dubstep and DnB into one genre, neither overpowering the other, which is exactly what I crave for!
Optimus Gryme is even sicker live..! he drops dubstep & D&B both nice and dark.. actually hes starting to play more D&B, of the Icicle/Rockwell/Jubei sound.. filth! .. but yeah this tune has a nice Kryptic Minds Sound to it.. i love the amount of sick D&B, Dub, Dubstep & electronic tunes that have come out of Aotearoa in the last 11 years.. much musical pride! :)

I love when people complain saying this "isn't dubstep" or that there wasn't a filthy drop. not all dubstep is the same and not every song has a massive drop of some sort -.- this is more chill and it's nice to listen to dubstep that's not filthy sometimes.

The use of the jungle break at 0:53 as a build to the dubstep drop is brilliant. I would like to hear more of such things... if anyone can recommend...?

People, Skrillex has never said he is a dubstep producer! He's an electronic music producer and a fucking good one at that. But that being said, this track here is the reason why i have to now go and change my boxers.

Honestly this is more produced than skrillex musiq. He uses massive which everyone is on and he has the same structure of his songs. Wobble riff then it breaks off to a little sample accompanied by a synth break down then back to the wobble riffs.

Dubstep is what evolved from a experimental mixture of 2-step garage & Dub. You can't say it's not dubstep, just because it doesn't have reggae aspects...
read a few comments that there is no drop, its at 57 seconds, you would have noticed if you listened closely.

@theRicketyRack I kinda have to disagree on that, because before dubstep was defined as a true genre, it split of in a million subgenres. Everyone threw in their own inspiration and therefore there is no 'real' dubstep,
just all the different emotions and spirits thrown into the music by the producers and musicians.

Why is it that wherever you go on youtube, from kromestar, to optimus gryme, to truth, you've got people talking about skillrex? 3 different ends of the Dubstep spectrum, and all of em' have got comments about skillrex. Just wait til the fucking nu-metal-dipsh*t -step fad dies off, and the kiddies move on to the next fad. And the major labels have milked our scene dry, destroyed everything we hate, and pushed the real tunes even further underground than they already are. Our scene will live on.
