- Ever wondered if a big modern drive train would fit on a retro bike?

I have used Advent on a couple of projects. It’s brilliant. Easy to set up and bulletproof to use. I especially like the drop bar shifter while wearing thick winter gloves. It’s very tactile.
In the US, it was available all through Pandemic at the regular street price. You can see it on all kinds of bikes. MicroSHIFT is now a player.
Nice! I couldn’t agree more. It’s extremely good for the price.
I put this drivetrain on the missus old 90's ridgeback urban. turned it into a total adventure bike. 500miles later can say its bombproof and I love it. advent x all the way! final tip, if you use an 11 speed chain it makes it even easier to setup and youre more likely to get spares from the bike shop if you need an emergency quicklink or replacement chain.
Men would rather put on an 11-48t cassette than go to therapy (switch to a double crank). Nice build! Love microSHIFT RDs. Such a bargain for the performance and finish.
lol and some need meds too (triple crank)
I have the microShift Advent X on my Joshua FS bike from 1999, my Trek 6000 hard tail from 1996 and my gravel conversion - I used the pro trigger. Will be getting the Advent X road shifters for my new gravel build so I can use this awesome 11-48 cassette, derailleur (with clutch) combo on all my bikes. Great choice and chapeau to microShift. One nice thing about the 104bcd 4 bolt crank is it is easy to get all sorts of n/w chainrings - my gravel bike is 40T, the Trek 36T and the Joshua 32T.
I’m gunna pick up some road shifter at some point for a future setup 👌🏼
That rock hopper took me back
The rockhopper is just getting better and better! Heads up for the frame bag, if you put some clear gorilla tape on the frame under the straps it will keep it from scratching.
Thanks dude!! 🤘🏼
I also mis-thread the chain around the jockey wheel on my adventX. Props for your honesty, I would have kept it a secret 😁
Cheers! If my videos stop being honest then I’ve lost it! This channel is all about learning! Especially me!!
OMG I used to own the same Rockhopper Comp! I'm sure I owned it around 1992 (I was around 15) and it was used then. I also had a set of Pace RC30 rigid forks on it!
Fair play dude, that does look sick!
Cheers mate!! 🤘🏼
Great build, love watching your vids. Keep it up!
I always mess up threading the chain through the cogs on the first try.
We have all done it! 😂
You're a great chap to listen to cheers Another proper video as always
Thank you!!! ☺️
Love your content mate, very easy to watch, keep it up yeah. Awesome and honest, cheers
Cheers mate!! 🙌🏼
What wheels are you using to fit that 10 speed cassette on the back? And are they 26"? Or did you go up in size? Thanks in advance.
cool to find more likeminded people
I just recently bought a microshift advent X group for a flat bar road bike, cassette looks soooo funny on the skinny road wheels, it works though and is very good for the price.
The Microshift Advent X is great and have it on my oldschool Schwinn Homegrown.
Loved the Video! Real nice build! Greets from Berlin ! Peace!
I like it a lot!👌
Just found your channel and I love this build. Keep it up homie!
Beauty!!
Same as you saw the Advent X on sale on wiggle shifter and derailleur for £50. I couldn't afford 2 of the microshift cassettes so went for 2 Wuzei branded 11 - 46 from ebay. Had the drivetrain and cassette on my fat bike and they have been great. 2 cassettes for £60, will just have to see how they last.
The Nitanium steel Specialized Rockhoppers are nice
I totally did this it works so well! I made mine into a bmx bar. I might convert it to a drop bar soon though. I still need one rim brake 😂 .
😂
always using 9 speed parts myself. often with 21 and 24 speed setups still.
really wanting the clutch
I routed my chain incorrectly the 1st time I put my adventx on as well. Haha
🤣
I DIG IT !! 😎what bars and neck is that ?
Very cool. I have like 5 old steel frames that need love. What is that bottle cage for the big bottle? With the velcro? I am a big dude and require much hydration.
Nice vid. I'm a Microshit fan too.
On light gravel and road the DTH's are one the fastest rolling 26x2.30. Kenda Kiniption's are even faster but heavier. Both look sick.
Will this casset fit up to my early 90's trek 7 speed wheel?
Great vid. I was looking at the microshift set up for a old trek I'm building.
Nice! I highly recommend it!
What mudguards do you have on there?
Been meaning to buy this groupset and checked wiggle because of this vid and saw it for £100. Now I need to buy a wheel that would be compatible
I’m crazy impressed so far, you won’t regret it!
Did you notice any cable failure on the derailleur pinch bolt? I've had a few Advent derailleurs now and they seem to kill my cables...
Not test but I’ve only done 50ish miles. I’ll keep an eye on it. 🤞🏼
what wheels were u using to fit that cassette? i'm assuming the dropout spacing is 135? i wanna put convert mine to 10 speed but cant find the wheels! thanks for any advice etc. Love your videos!!
did u cold set frame?
Idk if you knew this but the advent X cassette and derailer are lighter than the shimano Xt cassette and derailer and the gx and gx cassette
I didn’t! That’s awesome 😎
Acolyte has the same pull ratio. Acolyte is $30 cheaper and works the 11-48T Adxent X and other 11 speed shifter cassette combos
This bike looks siiicck!!! Have You thought about building something ciclocross oriented??? Xd
I have. I might have the frame for it to so hold tight ✌🏼
How did you install a threadless headset on it?
I used a stem adapter. amzn.to/3gjWUrV
Are the SOB mugs available?? I havent seen them joints on the site.
I’ll try and get some more made up soon! 🙌🏼
Ayyyy please do!!! Ill def get one
I am not a fan of those medium stuff, as it looks like they are copying stridsland.
i think it should be more about supporting the good shop and stuff.
but other than that i like what you are doing
Man, I hate to wait for another half an hour...
Hope you enjoyed it!
la catena è troppo corta
👌🏼
Just did this 1x10 on my stumpjumper today! It's tits!
I love it! The frames light as so I’ve been climbing EVERYTHING!! 😂
