This scene always felt like a Video Game Cut Scene to me, especially with how they stop talking and give Batman a quest.
Even more so considering that the two characters speaking were dressed normally, and you have the silent player character dressed like a clown just chilling nearby.

I must say, out of all the actors that have portrayed Bruce Wayne, Christian Bale most definitely embodies everything about the character’s persona to it’s full extent in Nolan’s trilogy.
The Cruise ship scene alone where he goes off into sea with the entire Russian ballet, ultimately canceling Rachel and Harvey’s date was playboy Billionaire Bruce at it’s finest. Outstanding performance.
Batman may be debatable, but Bale was the best Bruce Wayne. Affleck 's Wayne was portrayed brilliantly given the setting of a battle weary 20 years Batman, but in terms of beginnings and being a billionaire, Bale is unbeatable.

I forgot about thick-neck boy Batman. Looking back on it, I love that they made the ability to turn his head (a classic problem with movie batman suits) into an actual plot-point. They could've just started the film with the new suit like it was never a problem at all. Instead, we get to see the evolution of the suit DURING the story.
This reminds me of the old James Bond movies, when q shows bond his gear. Christian Bale would be such a great Bond.

Seeing how vulnerable the suit is at 1:57 makes me realize that Battinson is the most powerfully armored Batman of all movie renditions. Battinson literally walks through a hail of gunfire, gets shot point blank including by large caliber shotgun, and only gets winded.
what about the stupid armor suit in B v S? But yeah I noticed that scene. No suit is stopping a high caliber rifle shot at that close of range. Even if it did the wearer is still going to be severely injured from the impact.

A lot of folks aren't with his heavy armor in The Batman..but honestly its logical to me.
Bruce would need heavy armor to survive night after night as Batman in the beginning.
He doesn't have the experience and wouldn't be able to afford those kinda mistakes.
Theres simply noway Batman wouldn't eat A LOT OF BULLETS in his early career.
Even Bale's first suit was the most heavily armored and wasn't until he was Batman for 2 years before he went lighter and more exposed.

I am about 100% certain she was not flattered. More likely annoyed and incredulous at the fact he did that deliberately to ruin her date with Harvey. She clearly was not flattered as she planned to marry Harvey despite this. Plus he is absconding with a Russian ballet squad. The implication is that he is sleeping with them (even though that did not happen). There is nothing flattering about that.

I don’t think she knew. It’s not like Bruce would be telling her he’s goin to get Lau or Harvey told her he was working with Batman at all. Also wouldn’t call it an intentional way to ruin their date since the alibi was Alfred’s idea and stopping the mob is more important than one date so Batman wasn’t going to change his plans for such a trivial reason.
Bruce and Lucius has some of the best dialogue in the entire trilogy. Just small little sarcastic remarks between the two just adds so much
yeah it's like the dynamic between James Bond and Q, there's so many moments in the Dark Knight trilogy that pay homage to James bond movies, I wouldn't be surprised if Christopher Nolan directs a Bond film one day
I love the subtle humour in this film, especially the banter between Bruce and Alfred/Lucius.

Marvel is a thousand times better than DC, this series of movies was a one off and would have been mediocre without Heath Ledger

Don’t get me wrong Marvel makes some great movies but their audience is now directed towards children, which can be definitely make their films have a corny humour about them. The colour grading on this film is gorgeously modern, love Christopher Nolan's films.
Yep, practical effects, beautiful cinematography, and no shaky-cam. How big-budget filmmaking should be.
It's not the true colour grading of the film tho. They added a green tint and increased the brightness. The normal bluray is the best.

One of my favourite parts of Dark Knight is how much it actually cares about building up a dynamic crime story. It honestly can sometimes feel like a mob movie that just so happens to have Batman and the Joker in it. I love it.
In that case, if you haven't read it already, definitely look at the source material, The Long Halloween. Nolan saw that and based the trilogy off of it, it's definitely like "reading the movies". It's inspired, but not heavy-handed.

A really interesting observation but Batman's gauntlets have always given him an edge over his opponents in this trilogy. In Batman Begins he broke Ra's al Gul blade. In Dark Knight he managed to throw Joker's balance by impaling him with the blades from his gauntlet. In Dark Knight Rises the gauntlet ripped the tubes in Bane's mask which numbed his pain this more or less incapacitated him because he was in so much pain.
It was a nice way to show that like the cape and the belt, the gauntlet is no mere decoration, but a part of Batman's repertoire due to its functionality.

The reason for this is actually kind of funny. Nolan said during the pre-production of Batman Begins that he wanted to get rid of the gauntlets because he didn’t see what purpose they served for the costume and Nolan only wanted things on the costume that were practical for Batman being Batman. David Goyer being a huge fan of Batman was not cool with the idea of them being removed from the costume so he wrote practical purposes for the gauntlets into each movie so that Nolan would have to keep them.
No matter how many times you’ve watched it, when any part of the scene plays, u wanna keep watching it.
They could have change suits in between the films, but they actually brought back the suit from Batman Begins and then Bruce asked Fox for an upgraded one. That's pretty legit. Something more superhero films should try to do.

@@marioss2167 Nolan's aware that Batman's armor doesn't protect him 100%, so making the armor focused on agility with the tradeoff of less protection against knives and gunfire is the self-aware part.

One of the best things about this series is how Bruce and Fox talk to each other. That secret code where they talk all about Batman without ever mentioning Batman. The way they tip toe around it playfully.

The thing i loved about Batman was his support team, no matter what happens or happened they always came thru for him. Luscious Fox, Dick Grayson, Alfred, Jason Todd, Damian Wayne, Barbara Gordon, Jim Gordon, The fox family in general and believe it or not some villains help to such as Raz Algul and the list goes on. You get my point!

Honestly ... and I hope this makes its way to the top brass regarding the making of this movie...Nolan, Bale, Ledger and too many more to list. This might be the absolute best movie ever made. Older movies relied on a strong plot before CGI replaced good acting/writing/directing in Hollywood blockbusters...This one is the BEST of both worlds! As a person that appreciates skill in ones craft and an obvious pride in their profession...I personally don't think this will ever be beat!

The more times you watch it the better this movie gets. The subtle cues from the storyline just pop all the more. really well directed movie
Nolan’s addition of a scene depicting the upgrades in the suit is great, most of the time in Batman and other films they just turn up with an upgraded suit and we just accept it
The dark knight Trilogy is 10/10.

i loved the international angle here. Gave the movie an almost James Bond vibe to it, and showed how resourceful and relentless Batman is.
It should have been titled;
“depressed billionaire orphan gets new military grade fur suit to kidnap a Chinese accountant”

Being alone is not a sign of depression. Everyone has a different temparament and a different personality. He stays alone because he realizes that his job is important and he doesnt want people to get close to him and get hurt. Bruce actually wants to get close to people. In the first movie, he wanted to be with Rachel. He also took a liking towards Talia in TDKR. He retired finally and was committed to Selina at the end of TDKR. He always has Alfred as company. A lot of people give priority to their work over relationships. That doesnt mean they are depressed.

What?? How is he unsympathetic? Bruce genuinely wants to improve Gotham. He genuinely cares about Gotham. He belives in giving criminals second chances. That is why he doesnt kill them. He routinely spends money on charity to uplift the poor and the destitute. He routinely puts his life in danger to help people. How does that any of it sound unsympathetic? Did u even understand the movie? While in the pit, Bruce says, "I am afraid of dying while my city burns". Why would he say that if he was unsympathetic?

He felt helpless after his parents' death. However, he channeled his grief and trauma into genuinely improving Gotham City. That is Post-Traumatic Growth. That is the opposite of depression. Even real life psychologists believe that Batman is a poster child for post traumatic growth. When a victim of trauma makes meanining out of their trauma and decides to help people, then they are not depressed. They have effectively come out of depression
The casting in this movie was so brilliant.
Say what you want about Christian Bale...but he was, hands down the best Batman and having Morgran Freeman on the same screen with him...just a fantastic duo.
I love how Gordon, when Batman does his silent disappearing trick, just casually says to a bewildered Dent, 'Yeah, he does that. Welcome to my life.'

Alfred is the only one that would see them. He took his shirt off briefly in front of the Russian girls, but they wouldn't have noticed from where they were. Even if they did, he could bullshit them and say he's into extreme sports.
In Batman Begins Alfred notices Bruises on Bruce and says "If this is just the beginning of this, we will need an alibi for those" and suggests that Bruce plays Polo on the side. So either Bruce did that and they don't show it in the movie, or he found another alibi.
I like how Batman stands there and observes different perspectives, he is a silent guardian.

But when they both look to Batman, for him to speak, the circles stop, (because Batman is the voice of reason)- excellently played with the camera work😂
I love how the way he says “compared to your usual requests…” Lucius has been supplying Bruce with his toys for a while and that’s it’s been some time since the events of Begins.
