Love how this Orange and Black scheme looked on this Knight...might have to reuse this scheme on some Grail Pilgrims when I start painting them! So close to finishing off this epic squad of Grail Knights for my first Old World event on Saturday! I bought these the first day I started working in Games Workshop...20 years ago and was too scared to paint them til now! Glad I waited for more modern paints though!
Let me know your ideas for the final Knight in the unit!

Working hard, five Knights a week…
I see what you did there.
😂😂😂😂
@antonyyapp8597 you win the internet for today 😂😂😂
Purple is such a regal colour! I’ve been thinking all week I’d see a purple one for some reason!
purple and yellow would bee A+
Purple and white would be great
Stay tuned for the last video 😉
Blue and White might work. Always a favorite of mine.
I'm painting my Lord on Pegasus blue and white for Duke Raedmund III of Quenelles, as well as all his men-at-arms.
Not a bad idea.
Green is a peasant's color? Nonsense, says I!
Love this orange and black knight.
Same. Orange was my favourite
I was at Warhammer World yesterday.
They had 3 Tomb King boxes, the banner bearer and a couple of plastic movement trays. That's it. I then went into the Warhammer Store in Nottingham and the only thing they had for The Old World was literally a single Forces of Fantasy book (which I bought).
The staff at the Warhammer store said people come in daily asking and every time they get stock it is sold out basically immediately. Hopefully the success means there will be a lot more support for the game.
I really hope so.
White and Green (yes, I know the Lore, but perhaps the Green Knight has given this Grail Knight permission to use green in his livery) for the last one!
Perhaps.
Purple as well a vivid reds and blues were historically a very high status colors, also anything vibrant was historically high status. If you want to set yourself a significant challenge and make the highest status color combo you can go for purple and cloth of gold, but that will take a lot of texture to pull off.
Yeah totally know what you mean about texture in the gold, don’t have time for something like that within a day! But would be lovely combo
For the last one you could do three colors. Two for the quarters and a third for the shields on the caparison. That might not mesh well with what you've already done though.
Not a bad idea.
Def purple, with yellow or orange highlights. Will keep it deep coloured and tie back to one of the other knights too
That’s true
I think that a knight in white with purple and gold would be nice. or another Templar inspired one painted white with black and yellow, the colors of the Teutonic Knights. Both could be really cool paint schemes :)
Stay tuned for tonight!
I vote simple red and white for the last one.
Can't wait to see more.
Cheers pal.
Another great scheme! Think purple would look good but I have to jump to the defence of green (largely as I’ve been including it on my knights)!😂 It was used back on the old studio 5th Ed army and looked great. Also, irl it was part of William Marshal’s heraldry and he was arguably one of the greatest knights of all time. My army Bsb or Baron will have his scheme. So yeah… green for the win lol.
Nice. I like your reasoning.
I'd like a vibrant purple and green one.
A few people want that.
I think your correct with individual schemes for grail knights as they are showing their heraldry whereas I think you knights of the realm and errant should match your lords or barons scheme, however you could do a unit of peasants in that orange scheme with the theme they are from that grails knights house that he has mustard
It a bad idea.
Liking the colour scheme you dont see orange used a lot in general. Reminds me of Kilkenny colours, Grail knights from Kilkenny? Could be a thing maybe? Great Video cant wait to see more old world stuff
It very much could be a thing.
Love it! Orange is THAT colour for me... might give it a bash
Go for it. It works out great.
Three of your knights have black on them. I’d include black on the fifth so that it’s just your banner bearer in the front who is unique.
That’s an interesting idea
This was the first of your videos I ever watched. I subscribed immediately and over the course of the last few weeks have watch almost every single video on your channel 😂. It was also the colour scheme inspiration behind my new Brentonnia army. Do you have an email address I could perhaps send you some photos of my army that you've inspired!? Loving your work. You've helped me get rid of my perfectionism problems and just enjoy painting again!
That’s so kind pal. Thank you. Mediocrehobbiesireland@gmail.com
Instagram works as well for sending me pictures. Glad the channel has helped you. And this is my favorite grail knight as well.
The blue on your blue/red knight is quite light, so perhaps a darker blue would show something different for the fifth knight. You'd want to pair that with something a bit brighter, and my mind keep son turning to yellow - but perhaps there's room for a golden shade of yellow?
Yep I want a blue and yellow one so bad. So that mite for sure be a thing.
A suggestion if you like the fun involved with the color variation. Knights had attendants, Pages (young noble boys aspiring to be knights) and Squires (the knights right hand man and attendant (s)).
What if you make a unit of Squires that are painted in the color of their respective Knight? It might be fun to have a unit of 10 soldiers, two each in the colors of each Knight that fight as a unit and accompany the phalanx?
Could be a neat little story and unit that lets you play in the colors, sure would help tie it all together.
Squires are worthless peasants in bretonnia and of course they wear the colours of their lord and master.
Squires are not the same as men at arms. Different units.
Great idea.
Dark purple and brass look great together. Great work so far.
Interesting
Grey and purple would work well with the unit and look nice.
It would for sure.
Swap the black for navy blue for the whole unit. You could quarter or flip the colours. Always a lovely combo.
Not a bad idea at all.
Purple/Green like the Joker
Also medicinal purposes.
Love it.
I'm gearing up to repaint my old world army after like 20 years, your videos are really motivating me to get to it!
edit - you should go with white and pink for the last grail knight, kinda floral but it would look good with the rest of the unit
But Kate replying but I went with your scheme. Glad your back at the painting pal. And I’m glad the videos helped.
You have to do more of the orange and black, just have to. Love it.
It worked so much better than expected!
Day four of just knights and I'm still completely onboard with the content and on the old world hype train. Good luck deciding what colours are for the last knight, I'm sure you'll smash it regardless.
So happy you enjoyed the week pal.
Im thinking Sky Blue and white?
Loving thus series, and I am not even into old world this much. Amazing work !
Aw that’s so cool to hear! Thanks man
royal blue and bone works well. purple and a grey-blue also go well together.
Nice cheers.
Tournament report with cool moments would be ace!
Alongside an army showcase
On the way!
Really good job on this one. Suggestion: If you wanted to do a whole squad in this paint scheme, give them all a "badge" somewhere on their livery of the stag's head. Say they are all members of this Grail Knight's household, that they were all his squires. Nice bit of back story for using the orange/black again.
Nice idea. I was also tempted to paint up all my grail pilgrims to match him.
Your sons of Horus scheme would be unbelievable
I agree and I have plans for that.
This is the second time you had a video drop of some scheme I was about to paint. The first was Flesh Tearers; this time it was a black and orange scheme on a mech. It's weird that this has happened twice.
Nah not weird at all, just inside your head 😂
Sir Lamborghini is looking great. All hail Grail Knight week. You're vids are making me feel more comfortable about painting my knights
Glad to hear it! They’re not half as scary as I thought they were back in the day!
Love these videos! Great inspiration for me to dust off my Old Unpainted bretonnians and paint them once and for all! Most have just white undercoat, Dwarf and Bretonnians were my main armies in the 90s. These videos, step by step are invaluable! Thanks a million for posting! Subbed and "loved"
Cheers pal. Very kind words. And I do hope you take some old models out and get stuck in. Don’t take everything out as you will get overwhelmed. Just take out a unit and get them painted. See how that goes first.
@@MediocreHobbies Great advice! I am in the process of stripping my old green knigh t model, then gonna give that a lick of paint! :)
Cracking job Andy! I always have issues with the grey contrast paint. It’s always super streaky even over rocky textures. You’re one always looks super smooth, great work
Hmmm maybe you have a bad pot.
You've got a lot if red and black already so I would avoid them. More blue could be good, probably with a purer white. Otherwise, the only other "main" colour you don't have (ignoring the green, obviously) is purple. Purple may look too regal though so if you chose that I'd probably push it more towards a red-purple. But then that's more red tone...
I'm voting for blue and white.
Cool beans.
After seeing your unit from above my last comment stand. It would be looking sooo goood with all grail cups painted gold. You might consider doing that still as it's not so much work and it will add much to the unit. Great video! Cheers
Cheers pal.
Fantastic. Orange is my favourite as well - looks great. Good luck at the tournament.
Cheers pal.
Love it. Orange is a great color but I feel like we don't see a lot of it. It's another one that can be hard to work with. I hear you about purple and I kinda agree but purple and maybe a bone or cream color might look pretty cool.
I totally agree! People avoid it but if you get tone right orange can look great!
6 nations themed nights would have been my recommendation.
That would have required a green knight though.
It’s 5 knights and a Damsel but I get the idea-it’s a good one!
Absolutely nailing this Andy, top notch stuff. Can’t wait to see the full unit completed!
You and me both!
i would also say purple and yellow are a really nice combo !
They really are.
Great paintjob. It's my favourite one. Thank you.
Glad you like it! It worked out really well
Love your videos ! Currently doing my striking scorpions like in your video ❤ I’d love to see purple and black or yellow and blue !
Oh glad you like them! 🙌
I was really set on going for yellow and black before I saw this series, but this orange is really growing on me! Awesome videos for inspiration, appreciate it - and great work!
Orange one is my favorite
purple and cream looks cool too. or white and cyan ;) Cyan and yellow also is fantastic. Looking forward to see the 5th Knight.
Oh btw. it might be wise to put the Damsel in the Knights of the Realm to gain a second Unit with magical attacks.
Yeah I’m already looking at switching things up depending on the way tomorrow goes 😂
Purple and grey would be my vote.
Solid choice.
Love this colour scheme I can understand your wanting to do more like him. I did suggest purple and white the other day, I see your thinking about the white being too much of a departure from the rest of the unit, also if purples not your thing I can understand that. I did also suggest green because I did not know about it being a peasant colour so that was interesting. How about dark blue and light blue so you have one that’s complemented colours rather than contrast. Or blue and pink, pink is a hard colour that people might enjoy seeing as it’s not used for anything very often.
I went purple and white lol. Just for you.
As to unit champion, according to 2006/2007 catalogue the only actual champion part is flail arm, so with lance its literally whichever one you decide
Ah ok, thank you for that! I figured I was missing something
Green and white would look great especially alongside this Halloween esque Knight
Edit: Well green is out, hmm dark blue with Yellow
Blue and yellow is for sure getting used somewhere.
Maroon and grey
I do love maroon.
Thanks for these vids, great timing. I'm building my army and thinking of paint schemes
Love to hear that!
Lime Green and Teal!
Crazy choices. But I kinda like the sound of it.
blue and yellow is my suggestion for the next model
I am for sure doing a blue and yellow one.
Lovely colour combo!
Thanks pal
White and light blue checker board. Sketch it out with a pencil. The shields on the boarding can be orange. They’ll be small enough to not pull from the other orange knight.
If I had more time and confidence not to go insane I might try that 😄
I LOVE your videos, you always make painting seem so fun and easy to try and the results are always amazing!
Thank you so much 😀
Have you tried a checkered pattern? Perhaps quartered white and purple with black checkers on the white and orange/yellow on the purple. Or chevrons could be interesting.
I have not got the time or the tallest for that lol.
Light grey and light blue.
Kind have a whole unit painted like that.
Kind have a whole unit painted like that.
I know green is a peasant colour, but the Grail Knight from Lords of the Lance is Green and Gold, would not be the same as pistachio though.
Perhaps turquoise? Like Akhelion or kroxigor scales
I am tempted to do one Doomfire Magenta base for a vibrant pinky/purple and Frostheart base for an icy look
Yeah maybe a very different tone of green would be good for some unit! Hope you enjoy the last video in the series!
I think green and purple would be pretty cool Ronald brown horse
Hahah true.
Good luck in the tournament!
Thank you!!
How crazy to paint these with the rider on.
Not bad at all.
Every scheme you picked was a winner. Purple and white or purple and yellow could look stellar.
Do you know what the main brush you used for the knights is? I wanna grab a few because they look the perfect size.
I use small and medium detail brushes from gw as my main brushes. There so good.
intressting color, i like it
Thank you! Cheers!
Purple and green knight!
Nice.
Watching these videos is making me want to paint my Bretonnians, slight problem is they're all unbuilt.
I think Purple would be a great colour and if you don't want to do pure white maybe think about an off white like Celestra Grey.
Yep that’s what I did lol. Now start building.
@@MediocreHobbies yeah I will do. Think I'll have to bypass mdf bases and trays even if I do like the flat cohesive surface they provide.
Burgundy and cream in the Balian of Ibelin heraldry -kingdoms of heaven
I have that in mind for some unit for sure!
This turned out awesome 👌 I wonder if purple and yellow would look good
Perhaps.
Would love to see a white scheme. Such a tricky colour to pull off.
Stay tuned!
Cool as always 🏇
Thanks ✌
Orange is an underused color and I loved the result.
Thanks Wombat!
Green and purple
I do like those colours together.
White and black checkered for half and blue for the other half
Hahhaha you madman. Why do you hate me.
Purple and Grey
Cheers.
looking at them all together, I would go purple
and maybe white
Hmm…what an excellent idea 😄 stay tuned for tonight 😄
I done njoy these vids, nice inspiration and tips. How about a Dark Purple with White as secondary ?
Great suggestion!
nice
Thanks
How about Yellow and White (red spot colour) for Bastonne and the current King.
That would be cool.
Pink and black for the Last one
I will be doing pink somewhere funny in the army in future!
Nice! Any plans to paint new Ushoran that coming out next week?
Yes will be painting him for sure!
Great, hope my pre-order will arrive at time then.
you need some green in that unit!
Listen to the whole video 😄
Hi Andy, Excellent video as always. I have a question for you. Between the new Bret box and the old 5th? edition Starter, I have 24 Knights of the Realm plus the general that came with the 5th edition starter box. I was thinking of breaking it up as 6 Errant knights, 6 Grail Knights, and 12 Knights of the Realm. Do you think 6 knights is too small a unit to field? For the last knight, Quartered White and Blue. The Bret book I have talks about Metals and Colors where White is used to represent silver and yellow is used to represent gold. The colors to use with it are red, blue, green, and black. It states to not paint a metal on top of a metal nor a color on top of a color. This is from the 1996 book. The newer book must have made it a sin to use green because in this book it is used.
Nope just played a tourney t yesterday and took 6 errant 6 realm and 6 grail and I won the whole thing. Get some Pegasus as well there so good.
Purple and white for the last knight.
Stay tuned for tonight!
Off white & pale purple
Interesting…stay tuned!
Try sky blue with white
Cheers.
Make last knight as celebrating Return of old world. The blue and yellow colour and try make short "TOW" The Old World on his shield free hand. (Optional)
That’s actually a really cool idea!
Yellow and blue for thelast knight.
Think I’ll save that combo for an unit!
Paint one in the colors from Monty Python and the Holy Grail movie
Hahhaah Damit that’s a good idea.
I suggest something with purple and gold.
Ah an emperors children fan.
@@MediocreHobbies honestly I have almost zero knowledge of the lore. I originally was suggesting green when you commented green was considered a peasant color. But yes, I just discovered your channel in the past couple weeks and am a big fan of your painting and I enjoy picking up bits of lore here and there.
1 vote for white and purple for the last model!
You’ll enjoy the next video!
have you got a vid on the damsel? she looks mad
No video on her because she’s the old model (and isn’t a great sculpt!) but I’ll be doing videos on the new damsel when I get her!
Maybe green and white? Also, have you considered checkers or stripes?
I did, but then I remembered I only have a day for each one 😄
How do you get the fanatic orange to go on so smooth? Mine is very patchy and doesnt cover well, even after a few coats
Hmmm it needs to be Shaken a lot.
Orange and blue to kinda match your accounts name plate would have been nice for this one. But despite your hatred for the purple, grey white (similar to grey seer) with purple would be nice. Maybe pink instead of purple?
I didn’t even think of doing one to match the brand, genius
Before you mentioned it i thought purple and white 👍
Stay tuned for tonight!
Can't wait 👍
Hotrod, Last Knight
What did you do at GW?
Royal blue and grey
Worked as manager for the Dublin store!
Haha nice ideas!
Maybe Red and Blue?
That was the first day lol
@MediocreHobbies hahaha it was too. Damn me and my old man brain...how about Reikland? Lol but seriously mate these look bloody awesome.
White or a light grey and purple!
Great idea!
