As I get closer to my first Old Event here in Ireland, I realised that the Grail Knights in my Bretonnian army list needed more time and attention that what I'd be able to give them during my personal hobby time in the evenings...so let's make it content! I will be painting a different Grail Knight each day this week, giving you a different tutorial/scheme every day, so it's a win win for all of us! Hope you enjoy and follow along with the week, and let me know ideas for schemes too! Maybe yellow/black next?

Absolutely glorious work! And Andy, CZcams is drowning in 40k content. I am begging you, any other games are much appreciated as a change of pace. Keep this up as long as possible.
Love this comment, and you're totally right!
Honestly, I'm just happy to see someone painting something other than 40k
Ha! Well said.
Haha glad to hear it!
Never fed up with Fantasy contents. This scratches the part of my brain that still lives in the early 2000's and aches for minis painted to this quality level. Your paintjobs are always awesome.
Cheers wombat!
Looks amazing, love the blue and red scheme on this
Thanks!
Love that you're keeping the Old World hype alive while we wait for GW to get the models stocked. I've always had an idea to do a Mousillon army, make it look a bit rundown and grimey looking, maybe throw in a couple of hints towards the vampire lore with shield designs or helmets etc. I just need to figure out how to make yellow and black work as a paint scheme.
Yellow and Black eh? Stay tuned for today's video :D
I'm loving the Old World vids, I've just started a Bretonian army. More please.
Awesome man, hope it's going well for you! More on the way!
Great work Andy! Can't wait for the rest! Keep the Old World content coming, there isn't enough on YT. Love the channel and your painting style, thanks for the video!
Much appreciated! Thanks for that!
I love the influx of Old World content. I like seeing a mix of different models from different games, GW and non GW
great to hear that, thanks man
loving the old world content! please keep it up!!
Awesome, will do
Very nice Andy, the Old World content is great because you are covering techniques that we will find painting our own figures irrespective of what 'period' they are for.
That's a great way of looking at it-thank you!
Mooore old world! we need more! It's a breath of fresh air in the hobby.
Awesome to hear that, will continue on!
Wish we could actually get a hold of the new models.
I know man
I’m a huge fan of the Old World, and especially the Bretonnians, so I really hope you keep doing Old World and Bretonnian content! Love the videos and looking forward to more! Excellent job!
Awesome! If you have any requests, let me know :) Glad you like the videos!
Amazing color scheme and execution! You might like to try to paint the rider and horse separately next time, makes it much easier, at least in my experience
😅 I also used to clip off the bits connecting the hooves to the base, in my opinion they are an eyesore on otherwise beautiful minis. The mini will still be stable if you are worried about that.
Also good luck on the tournament. For sure your army will be the best painted one 😀
Cheers for the advice pal.
This video is perfectly timed for me. Currently working on my Bretonnian army so will be looking for inspiration on colours! Also really enjoyed Lords of the Lance, such a good read! I’ve just started using Duncan’s paints too and really like them! Looking forward to day 2!
Yeah I thought the paints might be a bit gimmicky until I tried then-they're really good! Glad you're liking the content!
Demon red might be my favourite paint from Duncan's range. It's got a natural blendy-ness to it that is really satisfying.
Yeah it's a great colour!
Beautiful job! Looking forward to the rest of Grail Knight week!
Grail Knights were one of the model sets i was hoping to buy on launch :(
Yeah I'm still hoping for them to be released!
Day One of the Bretonnia crusade! This came out grate Andy, I feel like these knights are the best excuse for bright colors. Sometimes it feels like not painting an army in its "suggested color" is looked down on, but with knights the color makes the knight
Great video can't wait for day two :)
Glad you're excited for the week! And yes, it feels really freeing with the Knight colours!
Looks beautiful. Those two thin coat paints look excellent! Can't wait to follow along with the rest of grail Knight week
Yeah they really are great paints, worth having a few of the triads in your collection!
Looks amazing. Super excited to see each knight over the next four days
I'm excited too haha
Great job Andy, interesting that you mentioned how long you spent on him, for me this is information I’d appreciate on most videos just because I sometimes get accused (mostly by myself) of being a bit slow but generally it’s because I’m looking at about six to seven hours a week average to work, so the time you have spent is always interesting information for me.
Oh ok will try include stuff like that more often then-please do let me know stuff like that-it really does help me with making content!
Would love to hear a tournament report of the event once it goes down. Would also love to see your full 1000 point list as that's the level I'm building towards with my Bretonnians to start with Old World with some friends. Love the old world content. Keep it up!
Glad your enjoying it pal. And I will of course be doing a report on the tournament. It mite be on my patreon though.

Looking forward to the rest of the week's knights - my pre-order box still hasn't arrived so I'm needing to hobby vicariously through your content!
Sorry it hasn't arrived yet! but glad you're enjoying the content!
Excellent video! I look forward to more of them. I would personally recommend Purple and White as a scheme, I saw Vince Venturella do it and it looked great.
Green and yellow could also look great
Oh will have a look at his knight, love his stuff!
The color scheme reminds me of early-90's LEGO Lion Knights, and that's a good thing.
Hahaha yes
Gorgeous! Can’t wait to see the rest.
Thanks man, so excited to see them all done
Beautiful miniature and paint job. I am curious about how two identical minis painted in your style, one with wash/shade and one without, would look. Not on grail knights 😅but something cheaper and easier.
Haha yeah won't test it on knights but it's a good idea for showing how shades work. they act like a varnish as well so i would never not use them
Loving continued Old World content! Looking forward to Saturday! Getting my own last bits and pieces together for attendance.
Ooo cool! Good luck with getting everything done on time but don't stress too much! See you there!
Looks fantastic. Love how the banner came out. I'm here for Grail Knight week for sure.
Awesome man, thank you!
I know what you mean when you were saying about the tone. I’ve painted up 6 knights of the realm over the last year using all different styles of painting as I like using Bretonnians to try different styles and new techniques. Some I painted quite flat just with some edge highlights, some air brushed and some with quick scratchy volumetric highlights. I put them all together as a unit and they just don’t look right together, especially the airbrushed minis compared with the other ones lol think it’s best to stick to same technique/style with them going forward with me
Yeah I know. It’s so hard not to experiment when you’re constantly learning and lots of time passes between models though! Definitely find it easier to paint a unit together so I stay on track with the same techniques etc.
I’m sure yours look great though. We always judge our own stuff harder than others will.
mediocre hobbies + old world = instant like
Yesss
That looks amazing! These videos have been really tempting me to get back into old world fantasy.
Go for it! It’s a lot of fun, I’ve played a few game now and I love the updates
If the champion uses gold on red for their shield, then they could be the banner bearer's cousin or something. Make a feature of them having the same symbol
That’s a good idea!
All hail Grail Week
Love seeing people excited too
Fantastic tutorial as always Andy! Always looking for ways to differentiate my Bretonnians. Keep it up
Love to hear that!
No complaints here. Loving the content ❤️❤️❤️
Love to hear that!
That looks amazing. Look forward to the remaining schemes.
Thanks!
Hope the series does well! Grail knight week will be great… you either like a challenge or are slightly nuts lol. All the best
Why do i do this to myself...:D I think I am more than a little nuts But hey it gets stuff painted!!
Andy another awesome video - I found a bag with some of the orginal Knights from years ago and want to paint them now that colour Scheme
Aw that's great to hear, glad you liked the scheme! :)
Very nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
Gorgeous, the only feedback i would have, is that I think it would look better to have darkened the blue under the yellow transfer a little more. It is only something I notice now and wouldn't have thought of myself either before. I think it would make the yellow contrast a bit more.
You are indeed rite.
Looks fantastic. I'm planning on starting a Bretonian force in the near future so I'll definitely be watching these videos.
Oh awesome, would love to see more armies out there!
Your my favourite old world content creator
Thank you!!!! 🙌
Please keep up the old world content! I'd love to see more High Elves. I'm just starting my own high elves army.
More high elves are definitely on the way, trying to keep along with the releases but if you have specific requests let me know!
While I'm not into the game I'm absolutely loving watching you paint the Old World, so keep going. I'm getting so many good tips from you and my own painting has really improved as a result, so thanks!
Aw man that's so good to hear, thanks for taking the time to let me know that!
Very nice
Thank you!
Best of luck for your tournament, with your great looking army. I hope I can get my HH army ready by April.
Thanks so much, best of luck getting yours done too!
Man i'd love to see a vid how you through the core units like men at arms, seeing how you need paint so many of them haha, but every day a new grail knight paint video, is amazing!
I'll be painting Men at Arms on my stream this week, need a unit of ten for my list this weekend but will try do a video on batch painting them if that would help people?
That would be amazing! your videos have been super helpfull@@MediocreHobbies
Personally I don’t mind what you cover I just enjoy seeing how you tackle projects & how it turns out ( which is always great )
Aw that's really good to hear, thanks man
Looks great but I must say You did paint over Your base blue/red tones with those layering step totally covering them. I would go with more glazing with 2TC. On a limited area too. For a better effect. I mean You just could cut some steps or make more glazes but the overall effect is great!
Perhaps. I’m comfortable with my method so I will probably stick to it.
@@MediocreHobbiesoh we do what we like doing when it comes to hobby. Just shared my observation.
so here for it!
Love it 🙌
And now I have to buy more of Duncans Paints.... I blame you entirely ;)
Sorry not sorry :D
I do love knights !
Who doesn’t?!
for the speed that's really good
Thank you!
im moving and packed up my knights but im looking forward to painting them when im done
That will be a nice reward for unpacking haha
Great work for sure, but defiantly getting to the Limit with the of the Old World builds!!!!
That's fair!
Please keep on smashing your backlog :)
Will do, thanks man
So... you do paint them individualy after all ;)
Considering the Fluff of Bretonnia i suggest you read the omnibus Knights of Bretonnia from Anthony Reynolds. He also wrote the 6th Edition Armybook. If someone really know how Bretonnian Culture and Chilvalry works, it is him. And the book is fantastic as well.
I didn’t think I’d have time to do them individually til this week 😄 Oh will check that out, cheers!
as a vampire counts player, i would love to see some legacy army love! maybe if we get enough talk about them gw might consider making us official again ;_;
Love the old world content! keep it up!
Awesome! I have a battle report coming out soon with one of the legacy armies soon, will definitely not be ignoring them! Any specific requests, let me know!
nice
Thanks
I think there is a simpler way to get complementary colours but still have lots of variety in a unit / army. This is a solved problem by the fashion industry. The problem is the fashion folk and the Warhammer folk don’t overlap much! Use seasons. I liked the Tabletop Time video on this but it was a bit of a shame because they made it about models literally being in those seasons (including snowy bases for winter etc) but it’s just a way to have a really diverse palette that feels natural together. If your whole army / unit is - say - Autumn then it’ll look great.
And autumn doesn’t just mean green and brown!
Okay you explained this so much better than I did! Thank you!!!
Awesome video. What is that giant Warhammer book on the lower left next to all the army books?
It’s the special edition of the 8th edition rule set for Warhammer! It’s a beautiful book
i have got the same banner but i use it as my armystandaard and use the armystandaard as unitbanner of the grailknights
Oh that’s a cool way of doing it!
Good scheme. As much as i like the Bretonnians, I'm hoping GW give us an old world skaven army and maybe some chaos dwarves
They’re both legacy armies so I wouldn’t hold my breath 😐
@@MediocreHobbies true, but I live in hope
If they you post it they will come (Old World videos :D )
Hahaha very true!
I am one of those "tone blind" lol ! These videos rock! Are you doing any questing knights?
I am indeed doing some questing knights.
@@MediocreHobbies Super news! I have 5 of these old models and are one of my favourite designs! Again just undercoated... looking forward to seeing your painting videos on these "ol chaps" :)
We want fantasy !!! Old world !
You'll keep getting it then!
Good video and I support all your videos but gonna be happier when you get back to more 40k. Itching for a tauros paint video
When i get my hands on one, I will paint it up for sure.
👍👍
Cheers!
I've sadly had to put my plan for a new Bretonnian army on hold, but my plan in the end is to use the colours of local GAA teams so that I don't have to choose the colour schemes myself.
That’s a great idea! Lots of nice combos there!
how can you know if your colors are in the same tone? Love the video and cant wait for questing knight week!
Honestly it’s an eye thing. If you hold the pots together you should see that they look the same even though there different colours. I know that sounds strange but give it a try.
@@MediocreHobbies ok thanks!!
@@MediocreHobbies would you say that all the colors on the two thin coats color wheel are about the same tone?
What do you mean by the tone of the unit has to be the same. You have done a bright red and bright blue so all your units would have to be bright tone to match so you could not have black and yellow because that would be dark tone with the light tone. If you look at the old painting style for GW knights the tone was all over the place. You had black schemes and dark red with bright yellow and bright green. So I am not sure if I understand what you mean by the tone is the same as this. For knights I think the point is they where about the indervidual. The point is to stand out from one another so they can be seen on the battlefield. I think they are the one unit where tone and uniform look goes out of the window. You want them to appear as a seperate knight with their own lore, history and background. Its knights of the round table.
Tone is different to colour! It just means a neon colour wouldn't look right next to a soft pastel! Think of all the knights colours being made in the same world, even if they're different individually
Irons!
Just bought a load of orcs through your link
Aw thanks so much man, really appreciate that 🙌🙌
Huh. West Ham was the first team I thought of.
Yeah i don't know football well haha
Do you think witching hour blue and leviathan blue might have been a better choice for a more royal blue colour?
Love the colour scheme but the grey blue turns me away from it. I'll follow your guide for mine but try with the witching hour and leviathan blue for a more royal coloir blue
always take what you like and adapt other parts of tutorials to suit yourself best! These tutorials can just be seen as way of teaching the steps, just sub in any colours you like!
Please tell me you didn’t paint the back left leg intentionally? 😅 it’s a beautiful paint job but it was driving me mad thinking you’d missed it
Hahaha it’s all painted don’t worry.
@@MediocreHobbieslegend. Smashing work
Cracks me up when you say you're a very average painter. I'm new to painting so obviously my standards are lower but even comparing yourself to many of the warhammer painting channels, there's really not very many that are that much better and plenty of people who are worse. Now I do wonder whether having good lighting and cameras makes a difference but even so, give yourself more credit
I started the channel because I was hearing so many people get put off by the competition level painters on youtube and social media, I never want people feeling like they need to be at that standard! I paint clean and tidy, and that's just from practice! Appreciate though man. Hope you're enjoying the hobby so far and always ask for help when you have questions!
hell nah, old world is by far the best game system out there imo, no such thing as too much old world
Couldn't agree more!
Looks nice but it would've looked nicer with the more deeper blue. I don't understand the point of that first deep blue layer when you went over it. That is technically a mistake.
It’s really common practice with painting these figures, not a mistake 😄 if you want to paint it a deeper blue, then it’s just a preference thing!
My opinion is that you greatly underestimate your talent. Also I haven’t played fantasy battle since 92 but love seeing all the content.
I'm an army painter, not a competition painter, I can still do great looking models, but not Golden Demon standard :D Glad you're enjoying the videos!
You say Arsenal I say West Ham... 😅 I hate that I made a football reference and that I know the colours of certain kits...
Love the end result, I certainly plan to add Grail Knights to my army once I get what I have painted.
I had a unit in my old army, and I did them all with black barding as they were in mourning for their king/Lord. They still had individual heraldry but were yet to accept their Lords idiot son as their new ruler. Well, that was my lore for it anyway.
I love backstories like that!! So cool!
And yes I have been informed it's West Ham-clearly I know nothing about sport ball things...:D
@@MediocreHobbies haha totally agree, sport ball things suck, lol.
Unless that ball is the head of your enemy 😅
Do you mean West ham united ? I'm not even into football and even I know them colours 😂
Hahaha yes i have since learned this is West Ham scheme
My personal opinion on the business side of things.... strike it while its hot.
To me, paint tutorials become less and less relevant as time goes on while people are sitting down to paint their minis, today. To me a tutorial is not as good, not saying its no good at all, but its not as good 4-6 months after something's been released vs. only after a few weeks/month or 2. I believe you'd be garnering more views as its relevant than later on in the year.
So yeah, keep doing what your doing my friend.
Thanks man, appreciate that advice!
Absolutely not - it makes up for not being bombarded by product from GW
😂
Hahahaha true
Saying a red and blue knight can't be next to a black and yellow model in a Bretonnian army. That doesn't make sense at all.
True. But that’s also not what I said 😄 it’s about tones, not colours
Ah fair enough I understood it as colours.@@MediocreHobbies
@@Khasidon Today's video is black and yellow :D It's more like neon yellow wouldn't look right next to pastel blue tone type of thing!
Very nice!
Thank you!
