In today's episode, Becket chats with Dr. Sean McDowell about his new book, "Chasing Love: Sex, Love and Relationships in a Confused Culture." Becket and Sean discuss common myths about sex. They unpack the problems with cohabitation, pre-marital sex, homosexual behavior, and more. We learn that veering from God's design for human sexuality ALWAYS leads to pain, hurt, and destruction. Sean gets very personal at the end regarding his own kids and what he would do if they came out as gay to him.

    ABOUT BECKET:
Becket Cook was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He attended Jesuit College Preparatory
School of Dallas. After graduating from Austin College in Texas, Becket moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of writing and acting, finding success in both. He eventually went on to become a production designer working with the top photographers and directors in the world on fashion shoots for magazines such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, and for ad campaigns such as Gap, L'Oréal Paris, and Nike.
Finding a new sense of freedom in L.A., Becket also fully engaged in his new life as a gay man. He had a series of many relationships with men throughout the next fifteen years.
In September of 2009, Becket met a stranger at a coffee shop in Silver Lake who invited him to his church in Hollywood called Reality L.A. Becket reluctantly agreed to attend the service. After hearing the sermon that Sunday, Becket was utterly transformed by the gospel and gave his life to Christ. He also knew on that day when God revealed Himself to him that homosexuality was a sin and that he could no longer live that life. Becket was more than happy to count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus his Lord.
Becket spends much of his time in ministry speaking at churches, universities, and conferences helping believers (and non-believers) understand this issue biblically, theologically, culturally, and personally. Balancing grace and truth when teaching on this subject is of primary importance. His goal is to challenge the current cultural narrative about sexuality in general and homosexuality in particular by demonstrating through his personal testimony and biblical truths that, yes, homosexuality is still a sin, and that following Christ is infinitely more satisfying and joyous.
He has lived all over the world in major cities such as Rome, Vienna, and Tokyo.
Becket graduated from Talbot School of Theology at Biola University in 2017 with a Master of Arts in Theology.
Becket’s book, A Change of Affection: A Gay Man’s Incredible Story of Redemption, with a
foreword by Francis Chan, published by Thomas Nelson, released July 30, 2019.
TBCS theme song was written by Seth Kaye (MASSIVESAD)

The problem with deception is that people don't know that they are deceived!!!

What finally broke my porn habit for good was the realization that I was being entertained by and deriving pleasure from watching people sin against God, and sending themselves to hell. Maybe I am stating the obvious with that, but it was just an extra layer of my own depravity that I became aware of and so horrified by.

As a Christian man who struggles with same-sex reactions, this is refreshing. I love the biblical truth that came out of this interview because I know that it is something that God sent me to listen to so that I can learn and understand more about God's view and plan on sexuality. P.S.: Becket, for whatever reason, your personal testimony is amongst the only ones that actually resonated with me in my quest to get free from this shameful struggle. After reading your book, I was amazed. Thank you for attending that church service where you got saved.

As a Christian I actually learned that people who live together have a higher rate of divorce in a secular university. Living together just doesn't work for anyone. God knows best!!❤

I wasn't the biggest ho before marriage, but I'd rather not have those memories, if I could erase them. I wish my husband of nearly 30 years were the only one. I'd never much considered whether it left a scar, but of course it did (a couple of them were not worth taking me to lunch, let alone sleeping w/them). This is just too good, I am loving this interview. XOXO I will be buying that book for ours, young 20s.

I agree. Feeling much more personal freedom since following God's laws closely. There is a safe comfort zone that you can't feel when crossing spiritual boundaries.

To Dr. McDowell - when I became a Christian as a teen, I read everything your father, Josh McDowell, wrote. I was so honored to meet him at a Biola chapel in the early 90's. I also met my husband at Biola, and we were both committed to following the ethics of Jesus. While dating and after we married (at Calvary Chapel on campus), God opened up doors to speak on healthy relationships in public schools both in Southern CA and Chicagoland. Thank you for bringing the message of God's good gift of sexuality to a new generation! I plan to get your book for my teens!

I have watched a documentary on pornography, and they said an enormous degree of porn stars were molested when they were kids, especially women. A lady was interviewed who ran a nonprofit to help people get out of prostitution, and or breaking away from working in the porn industry. She too said in both of these professions, an enormous percentage of these people were molested as children, and they were broken hearted people. Also, it has been pointed out, when people watch porn or go with a prostitute, you are playing a role in reinforcing and inflicting destructive wounds of molestation over and over again. So, when people think viewing porn isn't a big deal and its harmless, that is deceptive thinking and a lie becuase you are inflicting harm on others who deserve a healthy life to be loved and live a life full of love. Most importantly live and thrive in a life surrendering to the lord God who went on the cross that a life with such darkness would be nothing but intense light and warmth!

As a former Catholic... on procreation...a woman's body can only conceive a few days a month. But intimacy, sex, doesn't just happen a few days a month. Married sex isn't just for procreation.

The first 27 minutes I wondered if McDowell would cite his obvious source - St. John Paul II’s Theology of the Body! Thank you for referring to this rich teaching and for spreading truth.

I've met a growing number of people who regret living with someone due to being stuck when they knew the relationship was over or wanted it to be over. This was mainly due to finances, signing a lease, buying a home, having a child together. It's been so sad to listen to.
