Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance brings the MK series a new 3-D fighting engine, adds tons of features and extras, and still offers classic gameplay.
This installment introduces a 3-D battle system that still manages to maintain a 2-D feel. For example, pushing up on your controller makes you sidestep your opponent's attacks, yet it also allows you to jump by tapping up plus a direction. A revamped fighting system offers up to three different fighting styles for each fighter (one includes a weapon technique). The multiple styles provide countless variations of attacks for any given fighter. Different combinations of punches and kicks allow for lengthy and powerful chain attacks similar to the Mortal Kombat of old. Fatalities are also back and are rich in graphic representation.
New fighters join the cast of old favorites such as Sonya, Kano, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Scorpion, Johnny Cage, Jax, Cyrax, Kung Lao, Kitana, Quan Chi, Reptile, and Shang Tsung. The lavish environments surround your fighters with animated backgrounds and rich skylines. On some levels there are even breakable objects and hazards that you can interact with, such as pools of acid--the perfect landing place for a thrown opponent.
In addition to regular modes of gameplay (arcade, versus, etc.) there is an option called Konquest mode. This mode allows you to learn more about fighting styles, read up on each character's personal history, and gain Koins which can then be spent in the Krypt to unlock a host of new characters, costumes, and early concept drawings. The additional content offered with this title is plentiful, including "The Making of Deadly Alliance" and "The History of Mortal Kombat" featurettes.
Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance successfully reinvents the series by dishing up a unique mix of improved graphics and stylized gameplay without compromising those features that made the MK series popular in the first place.
Once again Mortal Kombat pushes the limits of the fighting game industry. An all-new graphics engine and fighting system make this game even more brutal and intense than ever before. Switch between fighting styles at any point in the game and choose between 2 fighting move sets and 1 weapon move set for each character with the new Multi-Move-Set Fighting System.

Even though jax's ending isnt canon hsu hao did make into the MKX comics and beat kenshei one on one but was brutally murdered by scorpion 🤷♀️
These endings had such a somber and bittersweet tone to them. Like you'd won but at too high of a cost. I also love the narration by Allan Stagg (RIP)
Honestly fits since this game had a pretty dark tone alongside its follow up sequels Deception and Armageddon what with the heroes and villains getting axed or meeting tragic fates.
It's even worse when you realize that canonically, Shang Tsung and Quan Chi were victorious.

Looks like Reptile, Cyrax and Blaze's ending are the real endings here as the Dragon King did come back in Deceptions

Frost's ending is real as well. Taven breaks her out of the deep freeze and wakes her up in Armageddon... which I guess takes place alongside deception since shes in the PSP game
natedoggcata Li Mei's Deadly Alliance ending is partly true. Shang Tsung was about to transfer her soul into the undead soldier, but as you said, Bo' Rai Cho intervened and Shang Tsung didn't fully complete the transfer. However, she did take on traits from the soldier, which explains her attire in Deception. Her ending in that game is Non-canonical. In other words, her ending in Deception doesn't even happen in the actual Mortal Kombat storyline and she never turned on the good guys.

Yeah. I think Jax hunted down and killed Hsu Hao once he found out he was a mole for the Red Dragon clan trying to bring down the Special Forces.

@@BigBoss1228 You know, half these endings are canon in Deadly Alliance and Armageddon. Hsu Hao dies and comes back, then he dies and comes back again and goes on, no matter what. NRS is obsessed with putting Hsu Hao like he's on the poster in the club stage, his Watch billboard in the MK11 story mode, the promo poster in the Retrokade (sp?) stage, he is in the Joker's ending, his several head in Erron Black's intro, etc.

I played MKDA when it first came out in 2002. Me and my brother would put countless hours into trying to get all the endings and playing konquest mode on the ps2. One of the best MK games ever made.

Drahmin's ending had such potential to be really cool and unusual. Its a shame it wasn't picked up on in Deception. My favourite character in the whole game, next to Kenshi.
Ed Boon hates Drahmin a lot, so it wasn't followed up with anything. But his ending would've been cool to see it unfold.

Raiden's voice actor in Deadly Alliance was a local acclaimed radio DJ who hosted an overnight Chicago radio program in the late 1990’s called ‘Sanctuary', his name was Allan Stagg. Stagg unfortunately passed away in 2007. He was 55 years old.
It's funny that in hindsight, Deadly Alliance slideshow endings get praised and becomes the norm throughout the remainder of the series while the live-action cut scenes from Mythologies and the endings from Mk4 are downright laughable. Look at the N64 version of Mythologies, the slideshows with dark atmospheric music was a billion times better than the cheesy acting.
Back when this game came out, everyone bashed the Deadly Alliance endings for not having endings like Mk4. It's funny how things change.

There were some bios posted several months later that clear a few things but not much.

Canon endings: Scorpion, Jax, Li Mei, Cyrax, Movado, Frost, Hsu Hao, Reptile, Nitara, Kitana (Just the funeral), Drahmin (Quan Chi escapes), Bo Rai Cho (second scene), Blaze.
Li mei’s ending is semi canon since bo rai cho saved her before her soul could be fully transferred into the undead soldier

In the Game Boy Advance version, Noob Saibot's ending is also canon. His ending is the reason Goro became Shao Kahn's ally again in the GameCube and PSP version of MK Deception/Unchained.

Kung Laos story is the best! He avenged lui kang. The story of deception should've been based on his victory as the hero who ended the alliance but died from the arrival of onaga. Even though i like the deception intro.

Kitana survives Deadly Alliance, but she’s put in prison. Sonya, Cage, Jax, and Kung Lao are defeated and their souls are used for the mummified soldiers.
I kinda want this voice of Raiden to read bedtime stories for children.
Only the Tournament Edition (GBA) endings are missing, which are cannon:
-Sareena: ends up staying at the Lin Kuei base, which matches her bio in Armageddon;
-Noob Saibot: Mortally wounds Goro during the Shokans and Edenians' battle against Shao Khan;
-Sektor: Create the Tekunin clan (which appears in MKA's Konquest mode)
That is similar to Mk Unchained on the Psp
It's so outraging to see how they ditched Nitara away from the main history after she appeared in this game. Even though her story was kind of appart from the main plot of DA, basicallt she made way for Onaga to appear. It was so fucking cunning and cool to see how Nitara manipulated reptail into attacking Cyrax and damaging his transmisor so she could then manipulate him into searching and retrieving that magic orb that had her realm merged with Outhworld in exchange of being sent back to earthrealm, finally freeing her realm from Shao Kahn's reign for and ALL BY HER OWN WIT. She's more cool and important than people. think
I honestly would like to see her (Or any DA Deception or Armageddon characters) return

Yeah, for the Record Jack Knapier, what actually happened is that the baby dragon, possessed Reptile into becoming Onaga, and when Sindel thrusts her Kwan Do in her Ending, Onaga's soul spirit returned back into his original body in a cold sleep of death, and Reptile was reverted back to his normal self(Lizard form).
I love the fact that Raiden is the narrator of those endings but his voice in this game was a bit sinister, as if he's a bad guy posing as a good one which is a bit ironic but the important thing is that it's Raiden who's narrating the endings, plus I love his character design here because the cape really completes the look.

I recorded this from the first Xbox with the Hauppauge HD PVR. I have HD Cables for that console so it records it no problem. I haven't had much time to work with Zod but from what I played of the Battle Mode to get his ending for my video he seems pretty good, different but good. I don't know if I would use him as a regular main though. How you like him?

I have got this theory regarding Reiko which is based on his ending of "MK 4". What if he is the clone that was killed by Shao Khan, but Havik, after taking Reptile's heart that was still embued with some of Onaga's ressurection power, ressurected him ?

Deception and Deadly Alliance couldve been the two games to set the 3d era apart. If only endings were consistent from these two to Armageddon.
Yeah I agree but they rushed Armageddon since the PS2 was coming to an end. That was a rushed storyline. A lot of the great storylines built up in DA & Deception were left with cliffhangers and dead endings once Armageddon came out.

No, Scorpion doesn't die. He just escapes from the souls, which is canon in his MK: Deception ending.
