    Hi Ed,
    As always, great content. You use the same brand for oil as I do; for my Diesel I use the "Liqui Moly 5W-30 Longtime High-Tech", but change the Oil every 10-15tkm (6-9t miles) anyway.
    And I pay a free workshop to do the Oil change (I give them the oil) because I don't like this mess :D But highly appreciated you did it even with camera!
    Oil is so important for modern day cars, I always wonder why people tend to exhaust the milage limitations here... It is not that costly in comparison to what can break if you don't do it.

    Yeah the F15 50is are messy oil changes, I just did mine a few days ago as we ended up picking up a '15 x5 50i. I ended up putting a Fumoto F-104 quick drain valve on it, as they make oil changes a lot less messy. Been using one on my subie for a few years now. ( I'd recommend looking into them if you do your own oil changes, it saves time and money!) Keep up with the great videos, glad to find someone with a similar vehicle on youtube. So far I've, break fluid bleed, oil change, spark plug change all are super easy if you got the tools, next is the dreadful coolant flush >.>

    • @eddiemcars
      @eddiemcars  Před 4 lety +1

      The location of the drain plug and the volume that rushes out suddenly. I haven’t figured it out. I’ll look into that quick drain valve. Yes, the spark plug change was surprisingly easy. I probably have to do it again here soon since I didn’t gap them and I plan on going to a stage 1 tune. I may take it to somewhere for the coolant system. That looks like a PITA.

    My 2014 BMW X50i with 85Kmi on the N63TU engine failed CA idle smog test due to failed valve stem seals. The issue is covered in a class action lawsuit Isley v. BMWNA. BMW policy is to change the engine out for a refurb and my portion of that work would be $8K. Instead, I elected to pay Brian at Performance Motorwerk in Dublin CA do the work using the superb AGA N63TU tool set. Elring 199-440 seals are the best choice. I may be among the first to be affected by this problem on the N63TU since smog tests are not needed during the first six years of a car’s life. It’s not a question of IF but WHEN this will happen to all N63TU S63TU engines, so be forewarned.

    Hello.
    As the owner of an F15, so the same model, I can still give you a number of recommendations.
    For added value of the vehicle, it is better to have the maintenance done by a dealer, so an official garage. There is more to it than just changing the oil.
    Liqui Moly is good oil, Amsoil is better. The EURO version 5w30 is an absolute must, or the signature series. You will notice the difference including lower consumption and a smoother engine.

    Would having the car on ramps unlevel the car therefore preventing all the oil from dripping out? Why the F is the filter underneith the car. The F15 35i is just a plug making it much easier and faster to change the oil. Too bad youre on the west coast. I get all my oil change and parts from FCP. Lifetime warranty even on used oil. Buy an oil change kit for $60, mail back all the old stuff for $20, and get my $60 back. Total cost for a DIY synthetic oil change and filter for this and my GTI is the postage of $20 here in NY.

    • @eddiemcars
      @eddiemcars  Před 2 lety

      I can try it. From other cars I’ve changed the oil in the plug is usually at the back of the pan instead of under it which helps the oil flow out instead of pouring out uncontrollably.
      I wish the design of the V8 was similar to the I6 for the oil filter placement. That would make it much easier.

  • @joshhuoabski3278
    @joshhuoabski3278 Před 2 lety

    That's a shit set-up for draining the oil as well as the filter. Why does it have to be vertical? Just to make it messy and make you want to say f it I'll pay a tech to get oily.
    Might be worth remembering that oil will behave like water and drain THROUGH your paper concrete protection that's laid out. How many times had you performed this oil change? Has it been a sh*t show every time? I'm gonna have to but my 14Qt pan up on blocks to catch more oil, I just hope that it will actually drink up the oil into the inside of the actual jug fast enough....yikes, let the good times roll

    • @eddiemcars
      @eddiemcars  Před 2 lety

      I’ve done it probably 6 times now.
      I purchased a deeper oil drain pan to prevent the splashing that happens with the plug is pulled. I get some occasional specs but nothing like that “s*** show “ you saw on the video 🤣
