Thorens had been my favourite turntable. For one it's affordable and another reason it sounded good to my ears. Shure was my favourite cartridge. It has that thump with pop and rock music.

Great explanation of the technical details. Would have been interesting to hear a little about the sound of the table compared to a Linn and in general. Cheers!

Other way round for me. The Thorens has a much better build (Rega just feels so light and brittle i darent breathe near one!), balanced outputs for best MC use, more adjustable arm and a sound signature very much like a Sondek... fullsome and bouncy and just as analogue as you could want. The Rega stuff sounds thinner, greyer, flatter more digital esque especially with their in house carts but "times well".

Good review, but nothing about the ever so important main bearing something Linn used to boast about so much in the past so what material and tolerances is it made to and having a very precise platter fit is only part of the story , thanks!

Sure looks a lot like my TD-126 mkIII. My first one had Thorens arm with lift n such, My current 126 has SAEC arm with just a safety raiser for end of play lift. Years ago I had a Rotel and falling asleep ruined many needles.

How does the Thorens 1600 compare to the Rega RP8 that I see in your video?

Only the technicals features are hilighted...
Listening comparisons would be welcome with the previous TD160 super or linn sondek it intend to replace...or follow up..
Such a product is designed in taiwan as usual for Thorens by now ..
The price comparison for value is also questionned....
Ok , new audiophile generation is not involved any more by such criteria but the trend today is to launch a lot of turntable at any kind of price with no understanding apart from marketings and not proven features and benefits...
We expect from Thorens" classical brand name to educate the "news listeners...."audiophile"
An old nostalgic guy using TD124 II..😉
