Please don't apologize for your "old school" tutorials, you're so incredible and have been so educational and so clear for so long that I feel like it's important for your new fans to realize why it is that so many of us love and adore you and follow you! Thank you for testing this tool. Because I learned from you, I think I'll continue to just do it your way! :D
I've wanted to get into bookbinding for a while, but I have rheumatoid arthritis, so I have to be careful with my hands. I know this isn't the oldschool, "proper" way of doing it, but you made it sound like it was pretty easy on your hands - not as much grip strength required as you're used to, and it still more or less got the job done. I've got hope I can still get into bookbinding with this family of products. I didn't know they existed and would have hesitated to try them myself, so thank you!!
Ditto!
Tip from other videos: Use a sharpie to mark your holes on the clear part. Some hand sanitizer and a q-tip will remove the marker when done.
am i the only one who realized that jennifer’s views aren’t as high as they were before ? your context is actually getting better, idk why youtube’a algorithm isn’t doing you justice :( keep it up though !!
I wonder if it's because subscribing to notifications of her videos is disabled?
"coated in... something. it's not beeswax" made me giggle. great video, Jennifer! Thanks for sharing!
Oh man, the old-school videos!!!! I just went back to watch some of them, they were THE BEST, I got all misty-eyed! :) And that music! Really, really loved the early days so much. Those videos were what made me fall in love with your channel and I've been around ever since. Who needs some tools when we've got your fabulous book-binding videos! :)
Thanks for sticking with me!
Me too! I took bookbinding classes at my local library, and they rushed the stitching parts so much, I searched for videos. SeaLemon featured the clearest, most straightforward demonstrations of bindings I found! Plus she was so relaxing and soothing in her presentation:-) I recommended them to everybody in class!
Man your "old school" videos saved my butt in highschool, I'd use your book binding videos to make over the top projects and in my sophmore year it was a requirement to make our own books for photography and I didn't understand the teacher's instuctions so for me your videos have not only saves my grades but entertained me and helped me explore things I would have never thought of as fun hobbies, thank you :-)
This is a good comprehensive review! This tool looks like a good addition to a bookbinding kit.
Oooh, I love that there is a tool like this! Thanks for reviewing it. And, it's a huge bonus that you have the videos on how to do the bindings.
That old school Coptic stitch tutorial helped me create my very first sketchbook! This was a fun video to watch 😍 since you already have a huge amount of book binding and stitching tutorials, it’s super fun to see you try out the book binding gadgets!
Thanks again, Jennifer!
Your old school vids are fantastic and got me started on book-binding. I still look at them for certain issues to solve to this day!
I enjoy your old videos on bookbinding they are extremely helpful so thank you. I have this tool and used it but not to much yet so I’m excited you reviewed it. 👍😎
I've wanted to bind my own sketchbook for a while, and I just remembered that this channel exists! I love your old tutorials, they are wonderful and are still followable! ❤
Thank you so much for reviewing this! I appreciate not having to waste my money on products. Glad this was a good product, saw it at michaels but patiently waited for this video. Now im off to get it.
I actually learned how to saddle stitch by watching your “old school” method few years back!! Super easy . Love your lessons all the time
This is a very good review. Now I want this tool even though I’ve never bound a book... must find a reason to do so! 🤔
I found your channel via a Nerdforge video on bookbinding! I've always wanted to make my own journals and sketchbooks, but never had any clue where to start. You just got a new subscriber!
I love your " old school" tutorials. I've been subscribed for years and use your videos to make planner and journals for myself and my family regularly. And when I lost my old account on CZcams you were the first CZcamsr I resubed too. Your amazing and your videos are so clear.
Thanks for this review...Every time I go to bind one of my books, your channel is where I come to!! Your tutorials are always so clear and complete! THANKS!!
Happy to see you review this tool. I bought this when it first came out. Love it. I’ve made lots of little notebooks (nice paper with cardstock covered) for me to carry, for others too. In a diy make do with what you have approach I used dental floss to stitch a booklet, worked great!
I didn’t know that tools like this existed. Thanks for the video! It was good knowing that it can make punching the holes physically easier because I have arthritis and have sometimes had trouble with that. It looks like you did a thorough testing. This is definitely going on my Christmas wish list!
I love your "old school" videos! I actually made my first book ever at the beginning of this year with one of your tutorials :) it's not perfect, but it works and I know I just need more practice. I plan on using your tutorials again for my next one.
I love this! I've been wanting to get something similar, but it came with one spacing measurement and it was only for signatures and was kinda expensive. This video game me the idea to try and DIY the flat part. Thank you, Jen!
Your voice is sooo soothing!!!! I instantly get relaxed just hearing you. Im gulty of falling sleep often. Your voice is blessing to the ears.
This tool would make my life so much easier, OMG.
I love your channel, I learned from you everything I know about bookbinding. The way you explain is amazing. Keep going.
Thank you so much for your great tutorials and for this review. I Purchased this item a few months ago and have never used it because I wasn’t quite sure how it works. Now I’m glad I have this in my arsenal.
Thank you for the closer look at the tool. I've used your binding videos, especially the saddle stitch one to make my own inserts for my traveler's notebook. I thought about trying this tool out, but have yet to get it. I'm trying to clean and reorganize, so I'm trying not to get too many things until I finish organizing what I have. But I will be keeping this tool in mind. Or I can just stick to the 'old school' Sea Lemon methods.
I LOVE your bookbinding tutorials.......please don’t ever change them. I noticed you said they were old school....well, I made my own books using your old school tutorials and they were the easiest for me. I searched CZcams and yours were the easiest to follow. Thank you, sincerely!
Thanks for this! I bought the tool and figured it out but comments from your expertise really help!!
Thanks. I purchased this guide but haven’t used it yet. Looove your videos. You are a great teacher.
Thanks for sharing this. I am sure I have watched before when I purchased this tool. But I’ve only used it once. So I have decided to use this tool to prepare signatures to have at the ready for future travelers notebooks and journals.
I bought this guide after watching this video. I helps me greatly because i have problems with lack of motivation due to the task seeming too daunting or tedious. This guide has helped a lot. Makes poking the holes so much easier, and thus makes book binding so much more fun.
Thank you Sea Lemon!
Thank you so much for your tutorials. My daughter and I decided we were tired of finding beautiful handmade books on Etsy and are diving into trying this over the summer. Your tutorials are really easy to follow and you don’t fall into all the annoying channel issues. I bought this guide at Michaels but hadn’t opened it. Looks like it could also be helpful making a guide if you don’t want to use it as a tool. Again thank you!
Whether the videos on binding are old or new, they are fabulous and so helpful! When I first started book binding, I bound my first book after watching your videos. I thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
I REALLY LOVE AND RESPECT HOW YOU WERE CONSIDERATE OF PEOPLE WHO MAY HAVE DISABILITIES AND PAIN.💖
I recently got this so I’d have an easy to use book cradle without having to make one, and used it for two different signatures of a junk journal I’m working on. The pouch with the needles and thread also holds a bone folder I bought for the project. And all of them fit nicely together with the board. They pack up in a fairly small space. Very easy and efficient to use. Just remember if you’re pulling a needle and thread through a LOT of pages, use pliers or your fingertips will be sooooore! 😂😭
I've been binge-watching your old-school videos recently anyway so I guess this is the world telling me to keep making my own journals lol
I had no idea this thing existed and it would make the work much easier for me since my hands do tend to hurt a lot after hole-punching for a while
been using it for a while too, love it. It does not hold many sheets at the same time, but it is a plastic tool in the end, and no designed for any of serious huge projects. But love it too. AND, the thread is soooo cool.
I'm definitely going to see if I can find this and *finally* give bookbinding a go.
Thanks did much for the review.
thanks for showing this! I tried bookbinding from your videos, they were great but I had trouble because of hand pain so I gave up. This might be exactly what I need to do this again! My son loves drawing and I originally looked up making him drawing books.
I love your videos and they are what got me into book bonding about 12 years ago. What I love about book binding is all I need is thread, paper, a lump of beeswax, a ruler. I suffered a stroke a year ago but thankfully am still able to thread a needle and sew so binding books has been my saving grace. Thank you Jennifer, I love your voice 📚
Just bought mine today! Excited to use it. Thankyou for this video
I learned how to bind books from your old school videos, which are great! I want this so much. I'm always misplacing my templates, or forgetting to label them. This would be a great investment tool if just for my sanity. As always, Thank You!
Howdy, I came to check out a review on this bookbinding guide - and glad I did. You did a superb job throughout. I love making books/journals and am a new fan. Thank you for sharing. Stay safe.
Great video! This might be really useful! And I love your “old school” tutorials!!
This is super helpful, thank you so much! I've been thinking about this product ever since seeing it at Joann's and now, I might just give it a try!
Love the “old school” sea lemon tutorials!
I’ve wanted to do book binding since I started watching you channel years ago. I’m thinking I’d like to buy this and try it out with your binding videos.
Also, the last thing I need is another crafting thing to add to my many things but I really think it would be fun. My sister loves journals so I’d love to makes some custom ones for her.
Thanks for sharing this!
This review made me look for the tool! Thank you for bringing it to light, as I had been doing it with a saw and clamps which was quite the pain! It was a quick find too, apparently Michaels carries their product line
bought the tool when it first came out, as a beginner book binder, getting my percings even was a challenge -- they tool fixed it for me. I get nice evenly spaced percings and nice bindings. Only thing i wish is that they made a tool a little longer than this one but love the tool and the results.
You sound so gentle, positive, and soothing. I think your books are happy little books. Like Bob Ross's happy little trees.
Thank you so much for reviewing this! I work at Michaels and I've been wondering about this product since we got it in. I think I'll probably pick this one up now! I'm always sending people who want to try book binding to your channel, so that will make a nice thing to mention when explaining this tool (to make up for the possibly poor instruction guide)
excellent tutorial as i am buying the WRMK book binding and wanted to watch a video before purchase. i sure know it will be so handy as when binding junk journal pages not all are punched precicely or go over the sides🤫🤫🤫Thank you so much
Thank you so much for these tutorials. I have this tool but have not tried it yet. Now I believe I will. New subscriber
Thank you for this. I purchased one of these about a year ago. But your video gave me good information.
Took a junk journal class and had the darnest time book binding will be watching your tutorials for binding. Thanks for the information I am gonna buy one
Just received my We R Book Binding Guide and went looking on CZcams for a tutorial on how to use it. So glad I came across yours first. Easy to understand and I really appreciate your links to various stitching methods. Was tickled to see you are in Scottsdale. I'm in Peoria, AZ. Hello, neighbor! If you ever give classes, I'd love to know. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and talent.
Thanks! I’ve been super curious about this tool! I have a basic kit & wasn’t sure if this would really be worth it or if it would make things easier enough to be worth the $ & storage space. You point out good tips too!
Great tutorial and that looks like it works really well.
Wooooow this tool looks like so cool, thanks for the demonstration!
Thank you for this video! I bought mine quite awhile ago. I wasn't really using it because I didn't really know how.
I had no idea such products existed. LOL-I have plans to drill holes in my pages. It's a long story, but suffice it to say that there's more involved in the paper than the off-the-shelf stuff. Thank you, Sea Lemon for your wonderful channel!
i finally managed to get this thing! I saw it when you originally posted the video, and I've been wanting to buy it =) I agree with the assessment of both the thread and the booklet.
Thanks so much for this vid. I was curious about the product and now I really feel informed.
Would you mind making a tutorial on the other decorative Japanese bookbinding designs? They look so pretty!
This is my first viewing of your channel. I'm now a new subbie.. Thanks for sharing your video with us, it really helps when using this tool, I'm new to book binding so it is a great video for newbies.
Thank you for this very informative, helpful video.. your vids are wonderful and are of great quality.
This is very interesting. I’ve always wanted to know how to bind books.
This is brilliant.. I didn’t even know this existed! It will make my life easier!
You are so right, the instructions are abysmal. But I found for a starter attempt it helped with making regimented holes quickly.
So nice to see you! Hope you are doing well! Nice review!! TFS!
Fantastic video Thank you. Your detailed tutorial is Absolutely top notch it really helped my 13 year old daughter . She was gifted for her Birthday . ✨✨✨🦋🤍😊
I just received mine this week from Amazon and I think I tossed the instructions, not like I would understand them anyway, lol, so I am very happy to see your review!!!!! I have been a subscriber for a while now but I am on my way to check out the binding playlist. Have a wonderful weekend :)
Dear, I pretend to buy this tool now, because your video is so clear and easy to follow. Your 'old school' is not old, is a school for life! Grateful :)
Thank you. I was considering this, and, you made up my mind
What a great and thorough review - We R Memory Keepers should have provided you with the product as they are going to sell so many based on your review. (Thank goodness SOMEONE made all those in-depth videos on bookbinding - LOL!) I may be making a lot of presents this holiday season! Cheers
Interesting tool. I guess the template thing would be quite useful, not sure really. But I agree with you about the dental floss thread.. lol. and just by the way, I have recently been using your “old school” videos and am currently in the throws of case binding a load of hardback notebooks for Christmas presents so thank you for your excellent tutorials! ❤️
Thank you for this video! I will be rewatching a million times to help me learn how to use this tool! 😂🤣 and I will be references your stitching method tutorials. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge on book binding techniques!
Love this tutorial, I've been wanting to start making my own journals but it's intimidating! Would you consider trying out a saddle stapler on your channel? I'm not great with a needle and thread and feel like a stapler might be the best way for me.
Thank you! I’ve been wondering about this tool!
I have been on a journey with this tool. Purchasing We R Memory Keepers Bookbinding Guide, led me to your channel. Not because of this review (as you had not published it at that stage), but moreso to learn about bookbinding.
Sure, this tool helped me to punch holes...but I wanted to know more than their instruction booklet provided. So, I searched CZcams and found you.
As a beginner, I had no idea about the tools I would need. I saw this Bookbinding Guide and took a gamble thinking, I don't know if this will be helpful. It looked like it would be helpful but I really had no idea about anything book-related. I just felt like I needed to buy it and so I did.
I used it twice then, put it in my drawer. It wasn't because the product was no good, it was more because I was inexperienced and, I didn't fully understand how to use the tool, or appreciate the assistance it gave. So, I went through a period of leaving it in my drawer and just eyeballing and poking holes. This of course was not very satisfactory but I was just learning and so, kind of put up with crooked lines and subsequent uneven stitching.
I've learn a lot in that time and when I was making my last journal, I decided to unearth and reuse the tool. And, it worked like an absolute charm. Strangely, though I have watched many of your videos, I had not seen this one until today.
There were times (when the tool was in my drawer) that I was wondering if I'd made the right decision in purchasing the tool. Recently reusing the tool confirmed that it was a very worthwhile purchase. Watching this video absolutely sealed the deal and, will help other newbies to understand and appreciate its value.
Thank you for this, I bought this and couldn't work out how to use it!
Great tutorial, thanks so much.
Love these videos. Just subscribed! Thanks. ❤
That what you call a sweet lemon 🍋 👌😊
Since I learned saddle stitch from you, I bought this tool via your link 😁 I hope you’ll profit as well!
WRMK has some good tools. Hoped you would review this one. Nice to see a review from an experienced book binder. Hope to get this one for Christmas. Have you seen their foil quils? They have a free style you use by hand and one that fits in electronic cutting machines. You might find them fun to add foiling to your book covers!
When using a Coptic stitch to a board I use the bridal method where you for stitching on just the board then attach the signatures to the “bridle “ this is a little more time consuming but makes it easier for me. It is a very old method.
Oh I hate measuring for books. Lol. Mahalogozaimasu for the review! I would love a video on different patterns of Japanese binding if you haven't done it already.
Thank you for this! I've been looking at this bookbinding guide and wondering whether it is worth it. I have a wooden cradle and use a handmade template. It actually looks like I will buy it. Oh, and I use tapestry needles. I discovered these when I was teaching 5th graders to sew Japanese binding; no finger stabbing--the points are blunt. (I did think that was dental floss when you unwrapped it.)
Excellent review!
Leave it to We R Memory Keepers to come up a tool that we newbies to book binding could use. I really like "old school" videos because they are "new school" to me & they serve as a good refresher.
I missed on buying it. I have to wait for it to come in stock
Thank you for your instructional videos. They are very easy to understand and I use them all the time. I use the coptic stitch method for my daily journals with mixed media paper. I am thinking of making a watercolor paper diy journal next but I am not sure the coptic stitch binding would be best. I do want the pages to lay flat for watercolor techniques. Any suggestions? Would you consider a tutorial? Thanks!
Love your tutorials thank you so much 🥰❤🤗😘
Good review. I like your bookbinding videos - they’re easy to follow. Not old school!
Thank you! Very useful video 🤩
Muchas gracias... Eres genial!!! Abracitos de colores desde Colombia!!! 🤗🤗🤗💕🇨🇴
This is great, I just needed this video 3 months ago :/
May I suggest using a small sticker on the holes you plan to use. Great video. Thank you.
