- The eighth episode of Creepy Time Limits.
Even when you're an evil and sometimes invincible version of Nintendo's mascot, time limits can find a way to get under your skin...
Time limits. I don't know about anyone else, but they terrify me. I like to take my time when playing video games, enjoying the experience at my own pace. But the moment I'm told that I'm going to be working against a timer, I can't help panicking. I'm thrown out of my comfort zone, and even the easiest tasks become tough to accomplish. Sure, it's good to be thrown out of a loop from time to time, and there's nothing wrong with a variety of challenges, but I always want the scary timer section cleared as soon as possible and move onto something else a little tense. In this series, I take a look at timer sequences in games that got to me the most.
NOTE: In cases where bad endings and scary timers overlap, (Example: Bad ending requires a timer to run out) Creepy Bad Endings will win out, and the video will be a CBE video.

I don't know if you've noticed, but this isn't a Pizza Tower video, so any comments about that game and not Wario Land 4 will be removed for being off-topic.
This is literally my favorite video on your channel because of Wario land 4
Thank. God.
Memes are fun and all but boundaries should be set sometimes
I think it's because people just want you to play it. Also the people making comparisons between the frog switch and the pillars.
"...some bastard ghost takes the one thing that matters to you most away. He must die."
...I think that's already taken care of...
yeah.
No he's not he can die again until he learns his lesson
I mentally added "again" to the on-screen text. The intent was clear enough I didn't feel like picking on the technicality

My favorite part of the escape theme is the start. Dear god, the start. Besides Wario saying "Hurry up!" which is cool, it sounds like your GBA will implode and the apocalypse will start if you trip up. It's also pretty spooky when Wario has his wallet directly attacked when time runs out. The world's grey. Music's slowed down to a crawl. Then, BOOM, Wario dies from bankruptcy. Scary stuff.
HURRY UP
The world collapses once wario has no coins
@@pqbdwmnu The worst thing about that: It's pretty realistic
wario: IF I LOSE MY COINS I WILL DIE
This adds a whole new layer of luck to Wheel of fortune
"Hurry up!" is not the coolest voice line in a GBA game, though.
But I don't know how to spell the actual coolest one.
Portal: Bae come over
Wario: I can’t, I’m on a treasure hunt
Portal: You’ll start to bleed coins if you don’t get here in time

McCree Oh god no
It runs through my head at during my work day sometimes. XD It is a masterpiece.
@@cerisejaxel9636 Sometimes I'll play this on my phone for the shoppers to hear at Target when I'm in a hurry to finish the job (stocking shelves) so I can get out!
@@kevin12567 I’d be delighted to have that experience! Stores should all play Hurry Up the last 10-15 minutes to closing to get customers going. I always feel bad for employees trying to shut down the place but customers keep showing up.
As a kid, I always found the Shake Dimension's 'time is up' game over more frightening. The Shake King, who is apparently on the other side of the world (judging by what I remember of the Shakedown Schooner's location) just shows up _out of freakin' nowhere_ , kidnaps Wario and proceeds to flat out curbstomp him, then hurl him away with ease without any chance to fight back. Especially unnerving, if this is a level just after a boss battle - you just took one of his bosses down, and he shows up to remind you exactly how powerful he is without you holding the boss emblems.
13:48 I like how Wario just gets mad at you for taking a break

Oh, bother... I failed...

Zer0scope XD
Not sure Wario is really a gentleman though.
I actually love the theme for when you're racing against the clock to exit the stage, the feeling of how panicky and urgent it is just makes it absolutely perfect for that situation. But that "song" it plays once time is actually up and Wario starts losing coins... The clock sounds stop entirely and it's replaced with a constant "heartbeat" noise, it's so damn unnerving...
Also before this video, I never actually realized just how amazing Wario Land 4's soundtrack was, since I had never really played the game much, and your gameplay snippets showed off examples of some good level themes. Thank you Git for exposing me to this game's soundtrack, I really need to sit down and play it someday
Hugo Hikari I had it when I was little but I've never made past the first level because the timer and the theme made me panic
Hugo Hikari I hate it when the music speeds up. I just hate panicking about things.
I think wario land is also a good example of backtracking done right, too!
Yeah the soundtrack is pretty unique. It really have a strong identity.
In all honesty, it's one of the only times I actually enjoyed a time limit in a video game
Wario Land 4 time limit: PANIC FOREVER
Wario Land The Shake Dimension time limit: Salsa time! :D
Dance Cake Git forgot to mention that every stage in Shake It/Shake Dimension has its own unique escape theme, though!
But then when the time runs out is when you're out of salsa and need to eat the chips plain. Its so eerie.
OR IF YOU HAVE SPAGHETTI BUT RAN OUT OF SAUCE
where I’m from it’s just called wario land shake it.
And space dude in general: boogie time
Can we just take a moment to appreciate how EVIL the frog switch becomes once you hit it?
I mean, look at its EYES, and the fact that it sprouts a BOMB....
I honestly thought that when the timer ran out the level would explode.
You had a chance to say "After all, Time is Money." After the first sentence.
It's still fantastic though
In fact it is, the money starts to decline after the timer is finished
You know, I actually wondered as a kid why there was a random lava stage mixed in with the horror themed levels. I just chalked it up to thinking they didnt have anywhere else to fit it, since there wasn't any spooky theming to it.
But... hitting the frog switch causes everything to turn cold. Everything gets iced.
That's when it hit me. The lava level was actually Hell, and Wario was freezing it over.
deletedTestimony Fiery Cavern has one of the most badass soundtracks in video game history
I've always imagined that when Wario presses the Frog Switch, the bomb inside causes the entire level to collapse. Thus, the time limit is a countdown to destruction and Wario must reach the portal with whatever he can find and leave before the entire level is destroyed.
I’ve always imagined it to be mysterious.
Denpa Dolt you explained exactly the way i think too
And the music really gives me some intense vibes, almost on the same levels as Pink Floyd’s “On the Run”.
So that means that the coins he loses is literally him BUYING himself the ability to freeze time before the bomb explodes!
The way how Wario rapidly swims is funny

HURRY UP!
The escape sections are my favourite part of the game because they are so exhilarating and the song that plays during the escape goes so hard

you know, I played Wario Land: Shake it (otherwise known as the Shake Dimension) as a little kid and beat the final boss. I have forgotten everything but the shaking mechanic, the ending, and the fact that you could shake garlic out of certain enemies to heal.
Haha, that is so true! I actually have the 'Shake it!' box, and didn't realize that it was renamed Shake Dimension.

I remember Wario Land 4! I loved that game! The look and sound is so pixelated and brilliant
You make the time limit so scary lol
I was too busy HURRY UP-ing to pay attention to the music
It was scary though, especially when you know you're screwed
Never knew you actually didn't instantly die if you run out of time, the way the game just falls to silence and everything goes grey, coins bleeding from Wario, really gives this impression that you're suffocating. Creepy as hell!
The Ganon Laugh at the end was brilliant! XD
The coolest part of the frog switches was hitting it in the Fiery Cavern Level, you're playing through a fire and lava filled level and once you hit the switch, you gotta deal with the opposite: Ice and Snow.
I can't be the only one who wants whoisthisgit to talk about Aerodent, a boss that loves to waste your time when there's a time limit to beat him, right? I ESPECIALLY HATE HIM ON SUPER HARD DIFFICULTY. I have a hard time beating him in 2 minutes without any items, let alone the 1 minute limit before the chests start disappearing. I never had a problem with the time limit for the FINAL BOSS, so why is a rodent with an inflatable teddy bear SO MUCH WORSE than a golden diva final boss?
If you're reading this comment, whoisthisgit, PLEASE talk about Aerodent soon so we can see how much of a pain that vermin really is. I bet this boss is just as bad as: (Sullivan: "AH HA HAHA!!!")
Zacktg I bet he will talk about it. There is Boss Analysis for that.
Aerodant is a pain in the butt, even when you figure out how to beat him in less than a minute and get all 3 chests.
I still haven't figured out how to beat CatBat and get all 3 chests.
Zacktg After hundreds of tries, he was pretty mediocre for me.

Because the bad ones hurt ur asshole.
The wario land 4 time limit actually makes me think that wario is drunk
When he presses the frog switch nothing actually happens, Wario hallucinates a bomb and then sees the bomb and screams "HURRY UP!!!" and panics for no actual reason, then when the timer runs out he cuts himself and bleeds (red coins) until he dies of blood loss (no more coins)
Thank you for making this video! I am so glad I'm not the only one who realized just how intense they managed to make Wario Land 4's time limits! The whole game feels like it wants to challenge your abilities, but when you play on the harder difficulties, it doesn't just challenge you; it demands expertise. It isn't afraid to frustrate or scare off the majority of players! The tougher puzzles and the tighter time limits make for a truly fulfilling victory once you're able to beat them. But until you do, it's just the right amount of madness and agony. Insane levels for insane people!
Wario Land: Shake It! is a great game, and has its fair share of trials for perfectionists, but it's just nowhere near as wild as Wario Land 4. The absurdity of the bosses, the bizarre, yet satisfying sound effects, the greedy, rotten resolve in Wario's bit-crushed voice; it's as though Wario is in far more danger than ever while exploring that cursed pyramid, and yet he's loving every second of it. He's a money-grubbing lunatic who throws himself HEAD-FIRST at literal demons and beasts!
Honestly, the only game that can come close to WL4's level of crazy is Wario World. There's no time limit mechanics aside from battle rings, and the puzzles may not share the same quality, but I'd say they got 2 things perfectly right; the otherworldly, sometimes even grotesque monsters that would turn any adventurer's blood cold, and Wario's avarice-fueled slaughter of these inhuman creatures with the deranged grin of someone who eats, drinks, and breathes money. I really hope Nintendo keeps putting Wario through weirder and weirder adventures, because that fat, filthy slob was MADE to shake down the freaks and creeps that Mario's too nice for.
Anyway, I give this video an EGGSALAD out of 10.
Played this when I was younger, and that music terrified me
I love how in his idle animation in the wii Wario is literally saying pick up the remote and play
Man, Wario Land: The Shake Dimension was an awesome game. I need to go play it again sometime.
I don't know, i kinda like the looping part of the Golden Diva's fight theme. sounds like something for a fast-paced water level.
You reminded me to play Wario's Wii game again - I am quite the connoisseur of well-done animation and that game is loaded with it! :D
For the creepy bells, sonic CD anyone???
8:28
Nice touch there with Professor Layton.
The part when everything turns gray after you run out of time and that slow pulsing note terrified me the first time it happened to me as a kid, especially since it was on a Game Boy Player. Definitely not something I would have expected after running out of time.
the timelimit in wario land 4 is legendary. it feels like you have to escape the level before a dimensional collaps happens, its just as tense as showed in the video and its really scary sometimes
3:47 when the timer was going town my dog started barking and I freaked out for a second
Your dog must have good hearing if he's able to hear a tiny Game Boy Advance...
unless you're playing on the Game Boy Player on the Gamecube, of course.
I feel like it would’ve been way more impactful if the level blew up when the timer ended and you just straight up game overed after a lot of explosions.
I think someone already did this but...

Wario Land 4, brings back memories when I played this game.
As a kid of about 6 years old back when this game came out in 2001. Those bells gave me the creeps too. Otherwise, good memories of the game. I still have it.
yeah, timers have always scared the living shit out of me. i remember hiding behind the couch when the countdown was going down at the end of the day in the one meerkat game i played on my wii, i cried when my mom was doing the 5 second tidy when i was younger, and i hated doing the purple comets and speedrun comets in mario galaxy. they've just always made me afraid something bad will happen if i don't get it done in time, and i have never liked the stress of that at all.
I love that this is also an appreciation of how unique the mechanic is. I like your style of videos a lot.
Also, yeah never thought about how Wario must have gills
I really love your channel, despite me not playing most games you talk about, it´s interesting to see certain game mechanics and the way they can have an effect on us.
I always enjoyed the contrast between the nice relaxing levels and the frenetic run to the portal at the end. Wario feels so powerful with his speed and strength and giving the player a reason to yolo run back through the stage really lets that aspect of the character stand out.
Shake King's kill tactic reminds me of a cruel thing you can do as Marina in Mischief Makers sped up.🤔 I could even hear her distinctive, "Shake! Shake!"
Hear me out..
A stage where its impossible to get out without running out of time
And you have to keep collecting coins to stay alive.
that would be a really fun idea for an escape after the golden diva dies
she would have a bomb in her mouth and it would detonate after like 15 seconds forcing you to collect as many coins as possible to escape
@whoisthisgit I've been rewatching some of your old content including the old MSpaint cartoons and realised that the full name of the character Rick is Rick the Stick. When I was making my show "Chris the Stick Adventures" back in 2014, I completely forgot the "The Stick" name was taken.
I want to make sure that if there will or will not be any legal complications or anything of the sort? The naming of Chris the Stick was accidental. I also want to say that we do not make money off the show.
Sure, and I doubt I could sue over that name even if I wanted to.
whoisthisgit Ok then, thanks for your reply! Take care.
i'd agree with whoisthisgit, such a generic name wouldn't really be copyrightable. There once was a company that tried to make the word edge their trademark and sued everyone that used edge in any context, but it came back to bite them and ruined their business when they tried taking on a bigger business.
@@Orasaki Also, Cadbury trademarked purple. Really?
It's a bit off topic though.
Is that anc i see?
I usually hate games with time limits, but in this case it seems like it handles well
I like to imagine the reason Shake It’s theme has a different feel than 4’s is because Wario has gained more experience in adventuring for treasure. In 4 it feels like “I Don’t Know What Will Happen When That Runs Out And I Don’t Want To Find Out” because it’s his first time dealing with time limits in escaping. He hasn’t seen the timer before, and he doesn’t know what happens when it runs out, and he doesn’t want to wait and find out. This is in contrast to Shake It! where he has much more experience with the whole “adventuring for treasure” bit and knows what will happen. Because of this, it goes from “I Will Die When That Runs Out” to “Wario the Adventurer Makes His Daring Escape.” He knows what’s happening and feels much more in control of it. He no longer sees it as a frightful event, and more of leaving the temple he just raided in a daring escape back to the entrance of it.
Neat

This opened up a floodgate of memories of playing this game as a child and always being scared to play a level I wasn't familiar with or seen one of my brothers play. No wonder I have anxiety and can't handle being rushed now lmao

Fiery Cave was certainly the most drastic change, though. A volcano cavern that turns in a slippery ice hell
The bells sounds very creepy. That sounded like a Mad Piano from SM64 was coming to chomp Wario's Stomach.
8:27 What's that song?
Also, wow, I never realized how much this Wario Land game takes from the WarioWare series as far as sounds go.
This game came before Warioware.
It’s the puzzle music from the first professor Layton game.
I'm gonna start running a mile every time I see a cow.
Been looking forward to seeing Wario Land 4 mentioned within the Creepy Time Limit series and boy howdy did the Time limit in Wario Land 4 scare me! So much so I didn't even want to know what happened when time ran out! Not to mention the fact that the Frog switch's eyes were flashing red and had a bomb in it's stand which made me think that the frog didn't seem to take to kindly to Wario. The Ghost Pirate, The Big Board, Pinball Zone, and the Golden Passage's Time limit ya mentioned in the video were the EXACT ones that intimidated me the most in the game, plus the Golden Passage was the first time I saw what happened when time ran out. I definitely hear ya on those haunting chimes after Wario gets kicked out, they just echo so ominously like something's out there that we don't see
I remember when I first played wario land 4. I was 7 and Everytime id hear the "HURRY UP!" and the music it'd scare me so much 😂
Shake it does it too, but it's heavily implied that the FINAL BOSS comes and kicks your butt if you fail. That scared the hell out of me
The Hurry Up theme is one of my all time favorite soundtracks.
Wario with the Professor Layton hat cracked me up. You made my day, thank you.
What a coincidence, I just finished this game the other day. But I thought the time limit was intense in a good way. The adrenaline rush of the music combined with the mad exit dash was amazing.
Having a energetic, happy timed segment is very refreshing. I hope more games go with Shake It's/The Shake Dimension's take on time limits.
Keep in mind the song that plays while the timer is counting down is known as “Hurry Up!” Aka the words Wario shouts out when he jumps on the switch. Although when he says it, it comes out as “H-H-Hurry Up!!!”
so now, we can recreate Wario Land 4 stages in Mario Maker
Your welcome for the idea
Love the Layton's cameo
