Yeah, I’m with Howard here. It’s his kid too, he should have a say in the name! At the very least, his baby shouldn’t be named after someone who’s been outright mean and hostile to Howard at times.

Not to mention he was a shitty father. From what they tell us in the show he's a lazy, rude, arrogant old man who's so far up his own ass he can't even pretend to tolerate his son-in-law for a couple hours. I mean, parent or not why would anyone want to name their child after a man like that? Especially when their partner is not ok with it.

Howard not wanting to name their son after Bernie's father makes sense for his Jewish background alone. They don't name children after living relatives so directly like that. If Jews want to name their kids after living relatives, they chose a name that shares the first initial instead, such as Mark or Matthew in this case. Howard may not be the most observant Jew, but a request like this is asking him to go against something culturally ingrained in him. Plus, iirc he did not get along with B's father. Howard had every right to feel unconfortable w B's demand.

The woman never asked to have it grow inside her though. That's just how nature works. Therefore you cant leave the man out of it as he didnt opt out of the choice to grow it inside of him. Just because the baby grew inside the woman so what? That's not a life long pass to being able to trump every decision.

The mother may carry that child. But it's the husband to bends over backwards to provide for the BOTH of them. He's the one breaking his back at work to earn the money to provide for her, he's the one handling all household chores when she can hardly move on her own and its the father who has to handle all the abusive remarks, unreasonable demands and hostile attitude of the mother, as he keeps his mouth shut and continues to care for her and the unborn child.
The Mother may serious physical effects, but Fathers have to deal with the mental effects.

Nah, fuck that shit. The one who's going to be risking their life pushing a human out of a their body should absolutely get more say in the babies name. All the one who's not pregnant did to contribute to the pregnancy is have an orgasm, and 9 times out of 10 the baby will get that person's surname, so yeah, I think the one actually growing and *having* the baby should get to name it. Absolutely no one will convince me otherwise. Do I think Bernadette maybe should've actually told Howard what she wanted to name the baby and been more sensitive to the fact her dad has treated Howard like crap from day 1 and obviously wouldn't want his kid named after him? Sure, but ultimately Bernadette is the one carrying it, Bernadette is the one it's going to rip it's way out of, and Bernadette is the one who should have the final say.

Carrying a baby is a lot of work, but raising a kid is far more work than that, and both will be doing that. Plus, naming your kid is a very big deal, cutting any parent out of the process is very toxic, most people would be rightfully resentful if it happened to them. If you are not mature enough to pick a name your partner likes too, you probably shouldn't have a kid to begin with.

@@allisterblue5523 I never said I or anyone should cut their partner out of the process completely, just that the one risking their life to bring the child into the world should ultimately get the final say. Also the baby usually, not always but usually, gets the surname of the parent *not* having the baby, plus middle names exist.

@@okamilover69 Both can have an exhaustive list of names they like, then pick one they have in common. Having the last word is only applicable in personal matters. If Bernadette wanted to buy a car with money she earned, she might be open to advice from Howard, but ultimately, only her opinion matters, that's why she has the last word. Household matters are not personal matters, you need to have everyone fully bought in to have a functional family. Having carried the baby is just a shortsighted excuse to get your way now at the expense of future outcomes for everyone.

@@okamilover69 Note that, people don't really choose their family name, it's not the same as picking a meaningful name for your children. Also, if I'm not wrong, family names originally come from noble households. Children were not named after the father, but after the household. It's a bit like if Bill Gates's family all changed their family name to Microsoft to generationally bask in the glory of having built and managing the company of the same name.
