    It still amazes me that Yuya was the ONLY protagonist of Yu-Gi-Oh that bricked.
    Like, Yugi easily has one of the worst decks ever shown in the series with literally no synergy in it, with just a bunch of random monsters in it, and yet he never bricked.
    Now Yuya, he plays a Performapal Deck together with Odd-Eyes monsters and some magicians, which all support each other in a way with some monsters of those archetypes and yet he bricked!

  • @justdirt

    Ok, but in Arc V, it happens like once every 10 episodes. Yuya alone bricked a couple times and many of the side characters just make due or make a weak play because of a bad draw. It happens way more often than any other series and it makes the duels feel more grounded and realistic. Especially near the middle when it starts getting serious and its like life and death duels, seeing someone not draw well, or get a bad hand and lose really builds up the stakes.

    • @Aflay1
      @Aflay1 Před 2 lety +51

      Yeah, you build a more compelling experience when the solid plays are few and far between. Not that Yu-Gi-Oh isn't a good show when everyone has bad hands. It's the character behind the bad hand, and indeed, the stakes of the duel. Seeing a bad hand and wondering what they will do if they lose everything, which happens to each protagonist at least once. They either go evil or get desperate to the point of overkill. Satisfying stuff you don't see in other anime.

    Watched yugioh recently and noticed that Marik was supposed to lose every single duel he has been in.
    1- His first duel was with Mai, Where Mai lets him win by not attacking with harpie lady sisters on his holding arms. She wanted to show off the RA and be stupid even though it was clear magic was real since she was in a shadow game.
    2- Yami Bakura also let Marik win. Marik being the terrible duelist he is, used card of sanctity when Bakura had like 2 cards in hand allowing him to draw 4 while marik drew 2. Marik then doesn't use pot of greed for some reason. The biggest misplay and intentional feeding moment was when Yami Bakura doesn't set monster reborn facedown before using Exchange to take Ra. His second biggest misplay was sacrificing ra when he could have just monster reborn + sacrificed and kept ra in defense mod since the defense transferred over. Then Bakura could have just sat on Destiny board and Ra in defense mode until he won.
    3- Joey, By no fault of his own passed out due to Marik cheating with ancient shadow magic and the judge just standing there being completely cool with it because hey, He has a rare card that my boss wants.
    I bet Seto Kaiba would have beaten Marik too even though Sacred Cards likes to pretend that Kaiba would actually lose to Marik.
