Tor (aka Victoria or Miss Victoria) is a speech-language pathologist who is passionate about Gestalt Language Development and Natural Language Acquisition (NLA) (Marge Blanc, 2012). PLEASE, scroll down for resources to learn about these important topics!
    Does your child....
-Frequently use echolalia (repeating what they have heard) to communicate?
-Produce long strings of speech with rich intonation patterns (variations in voice pitch and tone, sometimes sounds “dramatic”)?
-Frequently repeat lines from shows, songs, or books?
-Seem to have difficulty answering questions, or repeat questions?
These are SOME indicators that a child MAY be a gestalt language processors (GLP)!
Videos on this channel are made with gestalt language processors (GLPs) in the early stages of language development in mind! *NLA stages 1 and 2
Watch as Tor models STRATEGIES to facilitate language development for GLPs, especially in the early stages!
-sings songs with familiar melodies (with stage 1 and stage 2 models)!
-uses lots of DECLARATIVE language (statements versus questions)
-uses 1st person pronouns (I, me, we)
-uses PHRASES for a variety of communication purposes (rejecting, suggesting, directing attention, transitioning, etc)
-uses varied and interesting intonation (changes in pitch and tone of voice)
-provides written models (many GLPs are hyperlexic)
*You can find a free downloadable PDF of these strategies on my website: www.mybeachtea...
Tor hopes to inspire parents to incorporate songs into their routines/daily events, and even make up their own songs!
Co-watching is HIGHLY encouraged! Caregivers will learn different types of language models they can begin to incorporate into their everyday lives to support their GLP, while kids get exposure to language models in an entertaining way!
Language models/ gestalts should be individualized to each child!
Videos are NOT intended to replace speech-language therapy. Not all GLPs need support.
If a GLP in your life seems to be in need of support, you can locate an NLA trained therapist on the registry on CommunicationDevelopmentCenter.com or Meaningfulspeech.com
