So how was Cornwall one step ahead of them on many occasions BEFORE Micah started ratting.
I have collected some evidence that says it could have been John and Abigail.
Im not 100% certain on them being rats.
But remember, John eventually retires from life of crime, becomes a bounty hunter, and goes after the remaining members including Dutch him self.
So would this really be that surprising?
Putting Forth Oil, Train robbery mission
this train robbery was Johns idea. After Arthur agreed to rob this train John said he has to run in to town for Abigail and before finishing his sentence and giving Arthur a chance to question what he just said he stresses “DONT EVEN ASK” (we never got an explanation for what they were doing there) I think he was going back to tell the Law that Arthur will go through with this train robbery so they can set them up.
The Law showed up real fast and John was the one who pointed that out.
    The Sheep and the Goats
Cornwall knew from John that the gang was going to be in Valentine. Then they took John Marston as a hostage to play it off.
    Saint Denis Bank Robbery
Abigail and Hosea were supposed to do a distraction while the rest of the gang robs the bank. What happened next? Abigail and John literally disappear and Hosea got executed.
I think she went and snitched before they robbed the bank, John snuck out and surrendered as soon as things got crazy and the whole robbery could have been a set up to go bad by the Marstons.
When John was in jail it was just bait to lure Dutch, but Dutch never showed up to save him instead it was Sadie and Arthur. So they immediately gave up on that plan and let John return to the gang once more.
When John was shot in the final train robbery the Pinkertons found him lying on the ground and said “Hey! Thats our informant!”
picked him up, patched him up and sent him walking right back in to Dutches camp.
    Remember? “You left me!”
How else would he have gotten back to the camp after being shot in the chest and with no horse?
I don’t think this is 100% true but there is certainly some evidence.

literally though, idk about john but to quote Dutch "Abigail slipped away" during the Saint Denis robbery, i feel like maybe it wasnt John but Abigail for sure. But before all that, I feel like it was just a couple of plans gone wrong on Dutch's part.

Rudders don't work well when the seas aren't calm, especially if the engine's dead, since they need some sort of thrust to pivot the ship's stern. If the ship was filling with water unevenly, trying to turn would list the ship, making it take on even more water and sink faster. Not to mention you generally want to go with a wave not necessarily against it, it's possible but risky. If a wave hits you diagonally you're going to capsize. If a wave hits you head on, you might be fine but downflooding is a concern. Even modern ships have trouble in storms and rough water, a ship built 100 or more years ago, would probably have stayed docked if there were more than 3 clouds in the sky.

One thing I've always wanted to know; prior to the start of the game was the Blackwater Ferry job straight up bad luck or was it a set up with a CI within the gang? On the search for Micah and John, Dutch tells Arthur that with that many men waiting for them it was definitely an ambush. Later in the chapter Javier tells Arthur that Pinkerton's were everywhere and it was raining bullets.

    • @doughboywhine
      @doughboywhine Před 6 měsíci +10

The ferry job was most likely a trap. The tip came from Micah who is shown to fall into traps repeatedly and not properly think through his scores (such as the stagecoach the O' Driscolls mentioned) and it is highly probable he heard a rumor passed around by the law and set Dutch on to it.

Now I'm not sure about Pearson however there are a lot of unanswered questions about Jacks "Kidnapping".
1: How did he get "taken" from the camp?
2:Why wasn't he at all traumatized or bothered from being "taken"?
3:If Catherine Braithwaite was responsible, why wasn't she better prepared to deal with the fallout of her actions? She was basically a sitting duck when she could have done so much to ensure nobody would ever think to suspect her.
I want to add more but those were the most pressing of my questions. I have no doubt someone (aside from Micha) took Jack and that's why he was so calm about everything. Also nobody questioned him on how he was taken! They were so distracted by saving him and moving on after burning homegirls mansion down it makes sense they wouldn't think to ask. I feel like this is a huge detail we are supposed to question because we never get an answer let alone an in game inquiry. A real f*cking head scratcher.

    • @ultra-papasmurf
      @ultra-papasmurf Před 6 měsíci +4

the first two are mainly speculation but for the third one the reason she doesnt attempt to hide her involvement was because the whole kidnapping was revenge against the gang, she sent him to bronte to keep him out of the gangs reach and likely planned to in some way ransom the kid. We see shes hunkered down with all her sons and goons. As well she and the grays probably expected to slaughter the gang's main muscle in rhodes to add why there isnt as many troops as they probably couldve got.

Strange how Jack's kidnappers and the pinkertons found out at the same time where the gang were. In fact that points the finger even more at Abigail being a rat especially how like you said about Jack being so calm about it all. She could've arranged it so Jack wasn't there for if it turned bloody when the pinkertons came

@@arthurmorgan8529I’m pretty sure that Pearson did it, he was in the navy also in the letter is likely he met the Braithwates before and possibly worked for him but didn’t care and also wanted money for betraying them and it’s very likely he was also in contact with the Pinkertons, Rhodes isn’t a big town so the agents Ross and Fordham could easily ask to Pearson by 1907 if he wanted to stay in freedom that could mean also that John met Person when we return back at Rhodes with Sadie as a bounty hunter for later at the end of the epilogue Pearson saying the exact location of John’s house. This shows completely Pearson’s selfishness and how he can betray twice someone just for convenience, the way he kidnapped Jack it’s by saying him if “he wanted to go fishing” for later simply taking him to the Braithwaites let’s not forget that these mansion has a huge lake.

i don't really see how people see Pearson as the potential second rat, as most if not all of their evidence can easily be explained.
To start, I highly doubt that he was sending letters to Catherine Braithwaite. Yes, the name "Cathy" is short for Catherine, but said name has been one of the 100 most popular names since the 1880's (RDR2 being set in 1899). Him writing to a "Cathy" is most likely a relative he has that goes by the same name. Source for this information on the name "Catherine": en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katherine "Popularity and variation" > "Anglophone use"
Next up is the whole deal of Pearson owning a general store. I've seen some people online arguing that Pearson might've brought the store with money given to him by the Pinkertons or with the money that the Braithwaite's had. I again highly doubt this theory as we see other gang members such as Mary Beth and Tilly Jackson living rather lavish lives (with Mary Beth being a writer and Tilly Jackson marrying a lawyer), so it makes little sense how they would've achieved rich lives while Pearson couldn't.
And to do with the picture of the VDL Gang in the store, again I saw some people online saying that "Pearson should've been scared to hang the picture up as someone could recognise the gang", but bearing in mind that in the 19-20th century, I doubt many people would remember the name of a gang from 8 years ago outside of the places or people they were heavily involved in (I.E Blackwater and people from there). And for those that will say "But what about the shootout where Sean died?", most likely the citizens thought it was the Gray's fighting against some regular mercenaries that the Braithwaite's hired or something similar.
Overall, to me the whole "Pearson is a Rat" theory just doesnt make sense for me, as almost every reason that people give can be debunked with a bit of knowledge or logic.

In the Blessed are the Peacemakers mission, Micah and Pearson come up to Dutch about a truce with Colm, with Pearson claiming he spoke with an O'Driscoll about it. However, Micah is the one who really wants to push this idea, and ultimately is the one who persuades Dutch to consider meeting with Colm. But I think that Micah was either an O'Driscoll plant inside of Dutch's gang, or just his nature of wanting to survive no matter the cost that lead him to really push for the meeting. If this were true, it could be that Micah set that whole conversation up with Pearson, and if anything went wrong with the meet he could have Pearson be the one to take the fall over it, since Pearson was the one who brought it to Dutch's attention in the first place. I think that Pearson, and Bill, are the most easily manipulated members of the gang, and that Micah was just taking advantage of Pearson. As for the Epilogue, there's also the fact John was doing bounty hunting with Sadie which could have contributed to being compromised, and the fact he worked with the Geddes Family, who also knew where John lived as well since they delivered furniture to Beecher's Hope. There's so many people that Ross and Archer could have spoken to that lead to them finding John eventually. Maybe Pearson was one of those people, there's nothing solid that says he did but it's quite possible.

This is a pretty good theory, and the evidence presented is interesting at the very least, but man do I not want to believe this one.
Pearsons loyalty was never really shown as strong as far as I remember. Sure he kept the gang alive, and that presents loyalty in and of itself, but he doesn't really have many scenes where he's tore about the idea if betraying Dutch. So its believable in that sense as well.

Iirc Pearson brought up the entire thing to the gang which turned out to be a set up and his dialogue during and after was extremely suss.
My theory while playing was that Pearson was in cahoots with the other gang and knew it was a set up when he brought it up to Dutch and was the one who tipped off the other gang about Arthur’s vantage location.
I don’t remember if Micah was also revealed to be involved in this as well but I remember feeling like Pearson’s conduct through the whole thing feeling sketchy af.

      czcams.com/video/p5NVXNFPw7U/video.htmlsi=5tKAkdT6sgkD6DfT
I believe it was Micah, obviously there’s a connection to Micah being a rat. But in the mission it’s clear Micah is calling the shots, not pearson. I think Micah used pearson as the fall guy for Arthur’s capture

I dont see Pearson as a coward, for one being in the Navy for any amount of time is TOUGH, like, one of the most challenging things you can do in life. Plus although a year isnt super long it's still enough time for you to decide what your doing just isn't gonna work out. As for leaving in Chapter 6, everything was going to shit, basically. Dutch was seeming more cruel than ever, Micah had real power over gang decisions, Arthur, who was previously one of the only 2 gang members that could make Dutch see reason when Micah got into his ear, and also one of the main gang members who'd actively appose Micah, and call him out on his bullshit, was dying. Alongside Hosea being dead, and Arthur taking on a more empathetic view that Dutch saw a betryal, it was only really Micah with the ability to persuade Dutch in the "right direction." So deciding you don't want to be a part of a failing gang that is controlled by a crazy killer is pretty reasonable.

I’m pretty sure that Pearson did it, he was in the navy also in the letter is likely he met the Braithwates before and possibly worked for him but didn’t care and also wanted money for betraying them and it’s very likely he was also in contact with the Pinkertons, Rhodes isn’t a big town so the agents Ross and Fordham could easily ask to Pearson by 1907 if he wanted to stay in freedom that could mean also that John met Person when we return back at Rhodes with Sadie as a bounty hunter for later at the end of the epilogue Pearson saying the exact location of John’s house. This shows completely Pearson’s selfishness and how he can betray twice someone just for convenience, the way he kidnapped Jack it’s by saying him if “he wanted to go fishing” for later simply taking him to the Braithwaites let’s not forget that these mansion has a huge lake.

The only possible way this theory could be make sense is would be to ask where did he get the capital to buy the store for the previous owner was he saving was he given a salery from the gang did he broker a deal with the Pinkertons near the end on the off chance that he did broker a deal with the Pinkertons it would make the most sense reason being why would he be so bold as to have a well known business out in the open when he should be hiding.
The only way someone does something ballsy like that after being affiliated to a gang or crime syndicate is if they had a deal with law enforcement to look the other way otherwise Pearson should be hiding not conducting business out in the open where he'd have people sniffing around especially if your business is the only business that provides essentials to the local community you'd have a lot of notoriety due to your interactions with the public it'll be Kinda hard to go unrecognized or not have people look into you .
A prime example would be the legendary gunslinger granger who had a small farm that he was running he mentioned that he brokerd a deal with the government to let him live and toil pig shit for the rest of his natural born days at least until Arthur or John takes him out.
Now as for Pearson someone might say Pearson was harmless and not an active gang member gunslinger or stick-up man the Pinkertons and by extension the government won't have any use for him and he's just an innocent cook he's not like John or Arthur where as that is true the Pinkertons have shown that they don't care who they get information from weather through threat coercion or manipulation they questioned molly they killed Strauss my belief is if Pearson did rat out the gang days before on their location he probably heard what happened to Strauss and didn't want to end up in a similar position being dead in an integration room so he could have just told them they up in beaver hollow.
Now as for john Pearson asking John where he lives could possibly be him trying to get information out of him to tie up a final loose end for Ross and Fordham the only two persons who could have sold out John was Pearson after getting his address or the bank manager from blackwater.
I personally don't believe this theory is true but this is the only possible way it could be true but I like Pearson to much to believe it

Some people just like to come up with theories that Milton lied, but for these theories to make sense you have to come up with reasonings that make even less sense. Pearson didn't want to die for the actions of dutch and the gang. That dosn't make him a coward. If anything. He is the smartest of the bunch. As the rest of them live a life at the hand of dutch and also die that way. Pearson survived. Because he's got a good gut feeling. The fact that he has been in the navy and probably seen his brothers in arms die around him due to some braindead commandor is probably also why he could sense that it was time to leave.
I know people want to hate on pearson. But i've always seen pearson as the older in the bunch. That just makes sure they are eating well and taking care of them. While not questioning their choices and methods. He accepts people for who they are.
I highly doubt he would rat on anyone. As he is not part of heists and other things the gang do. I doubt the agency even know about his relations to the gang. If they saw the picture on the wall. He could easily say it was some people he met on the road once that saved his life or what ever.
Micah is the rat. And if there are anyone else that have the personallity of maybe being a second rat. It's Uncle.
