I just picked one up today! And the same exact one you got! Awesome clip and thanks for sharing.
Awesome! You're going to love that little camera. I still really regret selling mine. I hope ya enjoy it! Thanks for commenting!
I saw this camera on Ebay! I could tell by the bent metal on the lens!
Lurpa Durp haha yes, it is the same one. I have decided to sell it as I am making some transitions in my life.
Great video!
I’ve had the same camera for a year or so & I never knew about that tiny white and red square that told me when my shutter is cocked! That’s awesome!
Tyler Rice haha nice! I'm glad you got at least a little something out of the video. How do you like yours?
John Bradford I love that camera. I’ve been tempted to sell it to get more into medium format, but I just can’t. It’s such a great little camera. Plus I got it when the prices were low. It’s just a great little camera to take anywhere
I've had the camera for 8 years and didn't know it, so you are ahead of me :D
Couple of notes. Your battery check light probably works, but you may have a Wein cell battery in the camera. The Wein cell puts out a voltage close to the mercury cell the camera is supposed to use, so exposures are okay, but it doesn't put out enough amperage to trigger the battery check circuit. The bent front lens ring can be corrected, bent back into shape, quite easily. When we had real camera shops, they all had little wenches designed to do that on the spot. Today, you probably have to find a repair shop, which might do it for free since it takes only a few seconds. The black body G-III is quite a collectible these days.
Randall Stewart you nailed it on the head. I did have a Wein battery in it. Thanks for dropping in and giving us some good info!
Love your enthusiasm. And now that Canonet too. Gonna look for one for sure. Many thanks!
Michel Kriek Thank you Michel! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and wish you good luck in finding a nice Canonet!
You're Welcome, John! Finding one online seems easy -- the waiting game for the right price has started, lol! Take care, keep sharing!
i don't mind watching 30 minutes of videos like this, especially with the good music selection, i hope you'll post more photography stuff
Thank you! I definitely will continue posting. I've actually got a new video coming tomorrow! It features vintage lenses, but on a digital body this time. Should be getting some film back from the lab soon too, so may get the chance to post some more film related videos ^_^ Thanks again for the comment!
@@jbradfordphoto awesome
So jealous you have a black body! I have the titanium one and just need to fix up the light seals and grab a battery. Excited to do some street photography in nyc.
Nice video man, thinking about getting one
Melle willems thank you! I think most people would enjoy having one. It's become the camera I grab if I don't know I'm going to shoot some photos, but want to bring something anyway. Lol.
John Bradford I do the same thing. I take my Canonet just in case I see something I want to shoot. I highly recommend this camera Melle
Thanks man, I ended up buying one 2 days after I found your video :)
Got one right away! Only problem is that the shutter gets stuck every couple of shots so I have to get that repaired. other than that I've been enjoying it loads! thank you
Melle willems that's awesome! I hope you get that shutter issue fixed up! I think these cameras are worth having a CLA done on them. They really are nice for a small camera.
I just picked one of these cameras up for £120, they’re pretty expensive in the UK.
Your black one is beautiful! I really wanted a black one but they’re £250+!
That's awesome! I ended up having to sell mine a while back. I sure miss it. I got extremely lucky when I found that black one. I got it for $60 from a store that apparently wasn't aware of the color making it more valuable! Great little cameras.
250? Got a black one here in Sweden for 40 in working condition. Maybe I was lucky. :)
That's lucky even here in the US now! Good find!
I was floored by the first image and the way it resolved all that grass. And the bokeh is superb too. I love the photo of the bare tree by the river bank. It's not only a testament of the prowess of the lens, but also how beautiful HP5+ is. It has such luscious tonality and contrast. What did you scan with, if I may ask. That is definitely another important factor in getting great result. Thanks for this video.
Thank you very much for the comment! I scan with an Epson V550, nothing special but it seems to work well enough for my purposes. I have to agree with your assessment of the Canonet lens and HP5. They make a great combo!
blackbody ql17 giii sold for $300 here in Indonesia (mint) and about $90 (bad condition)
you didnt talk about the battery. how did you get that to work in 2018?
If I remember correctly, I was using a wein cell battery. There are a few out there that still supply the correct voltage. You can use modern batteries as well, just expect the meter to be off some. In my Yashica MG-1, I have been using modern batteries and just set my meter a stop slower than my film. So if I'm shooting ISO 100 film, I set the camera for 50. That has worked out well for me so far.
I got one in a free bin at a garage sale, still trying to find more film for it.
Howdy! Just now saw your comment, sorry for it being so late, haha. Try amazon, BHphoto, and even Walmart usually has some Superia 400 like I shot for this video. Thanks for dropping by!
What battery alternative do y'all recommend since they don't make the proper battery anymore?
I was using the wein cell equivalent battery to the Sr 625 in the camera. It worked pretty well, but was pricey and didn't last a terribly long time. You can use the modern version of the battery in it, but the camera meter will likely be a bit off on accuracy.
Can i use it manually without the battery?
Yeah, if I remember correctly, the battery only operates the light meter. The shutter still works at all speeds without it. You'd just need to expose with Sunny-16 or an external light meter 😊
John Bradford thank you for replying me you’re so kind...one more question if i want to use battery what kind of battery can i use? Since the old one isn’t available anymore and I don’t know what kind of battery that is suitable for this camera.
There's a few options for it. There are adapter out there that reduce the voltage of modern 1.5v batteries down to the proper 1.35v the camera was designed for. Another option is to search for a "wein cell" battery those are direct replacements for the original battery. I think the wein cell battery number is MRB625. You can also just use the new 1.5 volt batteries, but the meter will probably overexpose by 1-2 stops. I do that with my Yashica MG-1 and just set my meter a stop under. So if I'm shooting iso 400 film, I set the camera to iso 200.
John Bradford oh my god thank you so much 🙏🏻
@@literallymp9811 you're very welcome! I'm glad I could help you 😊
How much did you pay for your black canonet?
SteezLikeButta man, I got really lucky on it. I found it with bad light seals and the dent on the filter threads at a local camera store. Picked it up for 60 bucks, made new light seals for it, slapped a new battery in it and ended up with a nice little camera.
John Bradford lucky!! Cheaper than I got my silver one for. I just paid 200 for a black one & thought I got a deal 😭 but the condition is perfect
SteezLikeButta even at 200 you did alright for a perfect one in black! They're pretty sweet shooting cameras, eh?
