    "Pretty authentic." 😁 Yup. GO GEORGE! What a stand up guy. It's tough when businesses overseas aren't tuned in to the culture of "the customer comes first." China circa 1990 was like that. A whole different enchilada than more corporate customer-focused culture. I'm glad you experienced some amazing hospitality while in the village. The good outweighs the bad. YES! 👍🏼👍🏼😊

    • @IndigoTraveller
      @IndigoTraveller  Před 7 lety +2

      Yeah, George is a Legend! Even George said that these people weren't the best at their job, so I guess when a local says that then you know that it's not just a culture thing. But yes, all in all another epic day. Cheers, Karin! :)

    Mark Twain, in his travel-centered work, "The Innocents Abroad / Roughing It" is quoted “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.” I appreciate your perspective in the moment as you travel and interact with local peoples and experience their cultures. It speaks of maturity and grace; qualities that are admirable. This is why my family and I have become patrons. I certainly will not allow my few dollars "vegetate in one little corner of the earth." I want to release it to extend my reach to another human but even better in the case of Indigo Traveler, the remainder of the world. Show us the world but also challenge us to truly see the world and all its people that we would not be prejudice, display bigotry, or be narrow-minded. You have the platform and it is growing very quickly .... over 8K subscribers. It makes us happy. Safe travels and thank you, Nick.

    I had the same problem with a hotel in Medan, Sumatra, Indonesia. When I got where the address was pinned on the map, I was standing in front of a police station. Then try to find that hotel in a city of more than 2 million people. Of course nobody knew where that hotel is. I found it much later and I think it was 1 kilometre away.

    I worked at a similar company to Booking.com. write/call them, tell them the story, and demand a compensation. You can get a full refund and a compensation, especially when its so cheap.
    For these companies their service is everything otherwise you can just go to Expedia, Agoda or any other OTA

    I understand the problem you had with the hotel. In a more modern country this would be definitely a reason to complain. In a country where the standard of living is low, where the average monthly salary is probably much less than $500, where hotel rooms cost $10-15 a night, it would be better just to forget about making an issue. Asking people who make so little money for a discount can make you look like an ugly "rich" tourist. I would have just mentioned the error to the hotel reception and chalked it up to experience. I loved the video!

    • @IndigoTraveller
      @IndigoTraveller  Před 7 lety +3

      Hey mate, I understand what you mean but I'm going to have to disagree. It is a popular hotel with a high rating on booking.com, the owners are actually away in Batumi(Las Vegas) on a holiday and we talked to them on the phone, they don't make "so little money." In this situation, it's not about who is rich and who is poor, even though I can guarantee that they make far more money than me. It's about principal. Cheers :)
