Hope you all enjoyed getting Episode 2'd.
Just started watching this today. I never realized how much I needed John Hughes inspired DnD in my life!
Why are you here just as I start this campaign
The end of this episode LITERALLY had me dying
I just started watching and am so surprised at how good this is, I'm literally glued to the screen
how are you here just as i started lol
Stole school property, had a panic attack and murdered a faculty member. Adaine is truly having the full high school experience.
All in one day
🤣🤣🤣
And worse, detention
@@DaUziel Detention is awful, the first (and only) time I had it, I asked if I could do my homework and the teacher in charge literally GROWLED at me "NO!" and I just fuckin' burst into tears because I was trying not to have a panic attack. He like, actually tries to calm me down and is like, "I'm joking, I'm joking! Of course you can do your homework!" but I'm just like, hyperventilating and shit. He kind of took pity on me and let all of us leave early bc we were quiet, but I am certain that it was bc I just actually had a panic attack.
TheCatLadytm We’ve clearly had very different experiences with detention lol. My first(and so far, only) time in detention, I hadn’t even done anything that terrible And it was my first time so the teacher didn’t give me any crap. Heck, I kind of liked it... I get horrible sensory overload(and therefore, anxiety) in the cafeteria, but instead I got to work on a project and just chill.
The way Brennan's eyes lit up when Murph asked if the Corn Monster's butthole was Goblin sized made my whole life worth living lol!
I had to leave the timestamp, just to save everyone's time: 45:40
@@Asfixian bless
It was like "What...? Oh. OH! YES! I want this to happen!"

End of this episode: Everlasting mental trauma.
that was one hell of a twist haha

So funny
Imagine how the game could have gone if everyone died in episode 2 and they had to play a bunch of new characters that all mysteriously missed the first day of school coming in to discover that a group of freshmen had all died in the cafeteria the day before
E
It'd be so funny ngl
I think they would have reshot the second episode if there was a TPK
Brennan probably would’ve had aguefort use chronomancy to revive them
Ehhh, they would have found a work-around. This isn't a live show. Don't get me wrong, this is not a diss I actually enjoy this being a more curated experience. There's real artistry in hiding where the DM is pushing a story as all good DMs know.
“HE JUST HAD A GUN-“ “THIS IS GOING TO LOOK LIKE ITS OUR FAULT- “WE NEED TO-“
Brennan: 🙂
This may be the first time I've ever seen someone's face and thought that the best word for the look just has to be "smug" but used in an entirely good way. I can't imagine anything he could have done better to save the PCs without making it feel like there were no consequences. Perfection.
Its a dms job to be emotionless
@@SoulSlugArts I disagree. A DM's job is to help ensure that everyone has a good time. That's exactly what he's doing, it's perfectly fine for him to be happy about it.
@@cait9896 yeah that too
@@SoulSlugArts absolutely wrong. It’s the DM’s job to be *unbiased* (most of the time.) Bringing emotion into the game is critical to immersion and world-building.
Their final boss should be an evil anthropomorphic table they have to jump on.

My biggest issue with this episode: Brennan keeps calling them Corn Gremlins when Cob-goblin was RIGHT THERE!
Those are both wrong. They’re corn cuties
Corn-Coblin
The use of the term goblin as an insult is unsavory in dimension 20
@@bract62 I would just say coblin
Children of the cornhole.
"I'm pretty positive I had a corn stuffed animal when I was a ki-"
"this is frightening and you're all frightened."
Being ki i wonder what that's like
E
the fight was probably designed to be a neat miniboss to get everyone used to combat, but it went *so poorly* for the group that brennan was forced to improv in the aguefort scene
Oh yeah no brennan revealed later that aguefort was supposed to be a mentor/teacher to the party to be a great ally, but then 2 people died so he had to improvise to prevent a tpk.
I think it might be because I’m a terrible dm, but every first mini boss I design is almost a tpk and then I have to improvise a rescue. I always over estimate the PCs the first time around.
@@LostApotheosis You're not terrible, first level is really unpredictable due to low hp
@@LostApotheosis It also really doesnt help that in this case as with many others, people just didnt take it seriously and so when they went in they ended up getting killed because they just thought it would be fine.
@@ExtraCarnex to be fair I don’t run over serious games, and this is a game on a comedy channel. I don’t really think they were messing around more than was warranted anyway. I think it more comes down to them being inexperienced players.
This isn't even funny but I love how they're all wearing button up shirts but completely different vibes
"this isn't even funny" it's freaking hilarious
Holy corn, I just noticed that and it makes it that much funnier
thank you for this information, this has objectively enhanced the quality of this episode for me
This is my second time rewatching the series and I never noticed that. I'm experimenting this episode in a whole new light.
HAJDKSKFJJSKSK I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE that's so fucking funny
Adine: "SOMEONE IS FCKING DEAD!!"
That detention professor: "Now, now... i'm sensing a lot of feelings here..."
E
1.2k liker
And that's why he got shot
I cannot be overstated how good Brennan is. At the beginning of the hour he did not know player characters would die. As soon as it happened he adapted it into a twist, saved the PCs and did all of that without removing the stakes from the narrative.
Yeeeeahhh.
He definitely did a great job, no doubt. But it WAS his comment that kept Riz from destroying the page as soon as he found it while inside the corn ooze.
Sooo, the PC deaths WERE sort of on him.
@@chrisw3024 Yeah, but it was too un-RP of the character to just rip a clue into pieces, so he had to do a throw and see if his consciousness/personality would manifest
Also, I know some stodgy DM types who would take their game so seriously that if someone asked, "Is his butthole goblin sized?", they'd just be like, "No, don't be ridiculous, now what are you actually doing?" But Brennan was like, "..... Yes.... YES IT IS, ROLL FOR ACROBATICS."
@@chrisw3024 Yeah, and he also forgot that bless applies to death saves which could've saved them too.
@@RobertHartleyGM It's also a Concentration spell and there were no Concentration checks. Not to mention a bunch of other rules irregularities, if you want to be pedantic about it. This is clearly playing fast and loose with the rules.
Lunch lady made a whole speech with a broken jaw.
And unconscious 😆
My headcanon is that everything she said after the "Remember me as I was thing" was all in Adaine's head
When Brian asked if the monsters butthole was Goblin sized, and Brennan just looked at him like it was the greatest idea he's ever heard was my favorite part of this episode

@@MorinehtarTheBlue oh she knows, she's been playing D&D with Brennan for a while now, home campaigns and such.

I think the best thing about Brennan, is that he can go from a in-depth double suicide that’s extremely shocking, and out of nowhere, to suddenly being like “Ok. Everyone’s alive, full health, let’s keep going.”
The man is a master class in tone whiplash.
Think that’s a murder suicide, counselor was definitely not on board lol.

Man, I can't wait for the 3rd episode!
EVERYONE DIED HELP!
And dont forget it has high elements of fantasy in ep 2 and ep 1
So far it reminds me of that show The Magicians. Fantasy school, messed up bad guys, teens dying, modern wizard dialogue. I can totally see Margo saying "Everyone's dead get the **** in here!" and other lines.
Yeah, it's The Magicians turned up to 11. In the show the principal gets his hands messed up and goes blind, here he fucking shoots himself.

Revivify: Exists as a 3rd level spell
Principal Aguefort: Murder-suicide it is!
Little late but revivify has to be cast within the minute of death. I know in battle they were still in rounds, but after I think he was just using them for organization. Since I don't think yelling at the counselor, running to get the principle, have a short convo, grabbing some stuff and running back to the cafeteria could be done in one minute. You'd be looking at resurrection with is a 7th level spell/level 13 cleric/bard and you'd have to have it prepared or known in the one slot to boot.
Murder-Suicide seemed way better though and props for the improvisation! :D
@@husky2365 Minor correction 'Raise Dead' is available at 5th level
@@husky2365 yuck thats why i dont play table top games
@@husky2365 i think there’s actually a fifth level that can do it too but I can’t remember which one it was off the top of my head
@@poggies7639 @blacklightparadox true, I forgot there is raise dead (5th level spell) but the lowest level able to cast is 9th in the class, and you'd still have to have it prepared or known before hand. So they'd still need to find someone who fits both those criteria. At that point too, they could potentially use raise dead/resurrection on the teachers if they found 9/13th level divine casters.
The fact that Brennan either improvised or moved up the death of Aguefort is literally the craziest DM moment I have ever heard. Phenomenal storytelling and insane improv.
I think he was planned to die at some point, as he was already drinking poisoned tea, but was hastened by the the PC deaths.
The reason why the group has such a hard time fighting is because the healer keeps running into fights and it is hilarious
also level 1 means the healer cant even heal xD 1 cure wounds and 1 bless, done!
Such a contribution to the team! xD
It was also the fsct Brennan kept making them roll for things they didn't have too and not being able to use their whole turns properly. Like making her make a check to pick up her staff and that take up her action. When it should only cost half her movement and not be any check.
Also not telling players what their own spells and abilities do so they waste turns.
@@Noobie2k7 true but it was more fun tbh
@@IcyKing0302 Is it? I wouldn't really classify not being able to do even the most mundane of activities while wasting your turn as fun. I'm only watching Fantasy High after A Crown of Candy and The Unsleeping City and for sure Brennan clearly learned from this and doesn't make any of the PCs roll for pointless checks.
no one is talking about the murder-suicide that clearly just happened and I feel insane

For real though, Kristen's arc of 'converting' all these troubled youths to Hellio, her being so blessed in battle that it does turn them, but then her having to teach them the actual meaning of being good is a hella dope storyline

I am about to dm a campaign with all my players not even playing once before so this is gonna be more chaotic than normal
If you want to make everyone die, put a big enemy behind a horde.
I would have thought Gorgun would've stayed dead if not for the fact that four hours ago I saw a compilation of him asking varying individuals if they were his dad
Dude same that's how i found this haha
Let's not forget the ridiculously hilarious scene where he thinks he may be his own dad
He also only made two saving throws against death, so he shouldn't have died. I think?
@@ItCameFromTheSkyBeLo he got a nat 1 on one of them, which counts as two failures
@@costcosfinest4763 ahh, im not as familiar with 5E
Just have to pause to soak up the super dramatic circumstances at the 1 hr mark (1:00:05) that are setting up Kristin's turn: Riz is suffocating in a butthole, Fabian is being burned alive by digestive juices, Gorgog is down for the count after doing his best to extract a third of his group's members from holes inside a blob monster, Fig has been *mostly* dead on the sidelines for a while now, and the most successful attacker at that time is understandably having a panic attack.
Edit: Forgot poor Fig
And then she fails at trying to pick up her staff.
Literally nothing could have prepared me for Aguefort's murder-suicide, I was SHOCKED to my core
Bruh Adaine really used friends on every enemy except the only human, who she killed
the barbarian also forgot RAGE
but i think they're super new, so it's passable
@@thelastcube. no he actually I think used his rage the episode before! To punch a guy who punched him
@@rachelmckay5006 Barbarians start up at level 1 with two rages, so he should still have been able to rage. Ah well!
@@charlottenelken brennan mentioned that fantasy high was the first time that he dm'd 5e and the rules were changed for the first time in 5e so that barbarians had 2 rages. he didn't realize gorgug could rage again until after the battle :) (not sure where he mentioned it though, might've been one of the adventuring parties)
yeah, I knew they all started with 5e for Fantasy High, including Brennan, and I actually watched that Adventuring Party video a few days ago - it wasn't meant as a dunk on anyone, just pinpointing a rule! :D
I love how Brennan starts like “stop calling the corn gremlins cuties, they’re scary!!!” and by the end of the episode he also is calling them Corn Cuties
The tables were doing more damage.
The worst enemy of every D&D player: ...inanimate objects.
This group and Brennan are the definition of “if you can’t beat em join em” in the best way possible
Fabian's "Everyone look, I'm good!" at 14:39 is hilarious lmao
One of my favorite lines
I love when the die really seem like they have stake in the plot, like the whole first episode went perfectly for these characters personalities (like adaine's nat 20 turning into a 2 when she was having a panic attack), and obviously it's also brennan being an amazing DM but especially Fabian's rolls just work SO WELL for his flashy character but not having insight to other people's perception of him or not actually being able to land the blows because his moves arent practical and more for show, it's awesome.
"I'm sorry what"
BANG
And the tables turned... which is probably why no one could land on them
I love how everyone freaks out that the goblin has a gun when there’s two guys with bladed implements while the others can literally shoot bolts of magic from their hands.
I mean to be fair as shown by the end of the episode, guns have the power to kill during cutscenes.
Listen, listen. He had a GLOCK in school. A fuckin' GLOCK.
And the question is, why the hell did the faculty not search his suspicious briefcase??
@@courtjester6375 but was he wearing a trenchcoat? Otherwise it's just being professiona
It is an adventurer school. So adventurer weapons are expected. But it's also a school, so guns are... also expected.
Yea but a gun is the ultimate dangerous thing to have, the other ones you really gotta mean it but anyone can hit the shoot button on a gun and do a kill
I absolutely love how jumping into a giant corn monster's asshole was so important that the box of doom had to be brought out
43:07
Absolutely deadpan “a ladle is a finesse weapon”
Public perception: And the dungeon master has all the players under his sway, making them do unthinkable...
Reality: I HOPE I HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING AS A DUNGEON MASTER TO MAKE YOU THINK YOU HAVE TO JUMP ONTO TABLES
Fabian's reaction to the murder suicide might be the funniest thing I've ever seen. Just the absolute disbelief and barely held back giggle fit is amazing
Fig: This is gonna look like it's our fault!
Applebees: He had a gun?
Fabian: *AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA*
I NEED THE TIMESTAMP MH SISTER CHANGED THE VID AND I WAS ON THAT PART
@@darkqupid 1:26:13
Adaine's drycleaning bill is going to be as expensive as her therapy, looks like...
I felt so bad about how in Ep. one the obviously down on his luck adopted kid got punched for no good reason by the rich kid, but it's been just gut punches since then. What have I gotten myself into? Now I have to commit to watching all of these. Great job everyone.
Fig's Dad: "What's wrong wit' cha?"
Fig: "Oh, I'm gonna die, 'cause corn."
Me: I'm using that.
I appreciate the correction of guitar to "bass guitar". I know they're role playing, but that is *absolutely* the kind of correction a bassist would make
As a bassist I can confirm this was 100% accurate. Guitars get all the recognition :(
As a guy who learned guitar for a while but haven’t practiced in a while, I actually agree that bass is very different in a very cool way.
"i know they're roleplaying, but"? yeah, she said it BECAUSE she's roleplaying a bassist
I wish all the critical role fans visiting here, a very happy You've Been Episode 2'd.
Haha!! Thank you :) I am very stressed 😂
42:34 My favorite moment this episode
*"GIVE ME BACK MY LADLEEEEE"*
im going to defeat you with the power of friendship and this gun i found
actually, the strongest form of magic is chronomancy, so maybe it'd be better to use that power
Russian Badger meme?
And I'm all out of friendship, so pew pew bitches
@@homeofsapiens5783 pew pew indeed
I was skeptical of this when they announced it but once I gave it a shot I was hooked for 3 damn hours and now I want to play DnD
Welcome to the nerd side.
@@dropout I love it so much. Thank you guys for all the videos.
Ready for a Dropout App so I can watch all the Um Actually..., as well.
i just hoped the characteres died and the school was sued
Saaaaaaame
Same! I've been wanting to play DND for years and have never been able to find a group of beginners to start a campaign with, but now that I've actually seen what gameplay can be like, I'm determined to seek out a group and join in the fun!
I love that during the barbarian class, the bard was the one talking about how rage is inevitable and the barbarian was the one (albeit awkwardly) singing a song. It’s so good, I love all their characters xD
Poor Zac is so shocked and upset about Gorgug, I’m glad he didn’t stay dead
I love the new collegehumor. These shows are so great.
It's like the old CH came back but with a bigger budget.
No joke: the budget is thanks to DROPOUT subscribers.
The budget would probably be 100x bigger if DROPOUT was available worldwide
this also seems very much like a passion project, it feels like there is a lot more than budget happening here
Please let the final boss be a table, not a magic or monster table, but just a regular lunch table that they have to jump over
For most groups it's doors that pose the biggest threat. These guys mixed it up by having it be a door, otherwise known as a Horizontal door with chairs.
1:26:25 I love that everyone looks so shocked but Zac is just hysterically laughing 😂
