I've seen a lot of shovelware games so far thanks to this series, but that Home Alone game is _the most_ shovelware game I've ever seen in my life. I'm having a hard time believing it's not just a homebrew fan game.

Home Alone is basically an iPhone game that was made pre iPhone and sold for full price
BurtSampson reminds me of that my favorite book series is getting a game by Kris Jackson, who brags about his 20 years of experience in the game industry and self proclaimed genius, and one of the people involved with Deus Ex: The Fall, the apparently okay iOS game with a horrible pc port...
I mean you could say the same thing about a huge amount of pre-ps2 era game's and its pretty accurate.

That Casper game WAS made in the same engine as Ninjabread man. They were both made in the Renderware engine which was also the same engine that GTA San Andreas was made in.
Wasn't Renderware just the graphics engine? Cuz Data Design had their own game engine they made themselves. It was intentionally designed to be easy to make games with.

The Renderware engine was also used in SpongeBob: Battle For Bikini Bottom. I'm sad that that amazing game has connections to Data Design's shitty engine.

Little Britain was a character sketch comedy show in the 2000's. The show was alright if a little low brow.

I owned Beverly Hills Cop when I was 6-7-ish. I had completely blocked it out of my mind until I saw the main menu. I remember wasting an entire week of my life trying to beat that first level before I threw the disc in the back of my closet and never touched it again.
I also had Casper and the Ghostly Trio and another absolutely dog shit Blast! racing game under the Flintstones brand too.
My local supermarket always had these shovelware things front and center in the games section until around the Xbox 360 coming out.

8:05 The character art looks amateur, not professional. It would fit, say, my little girl character, but not Home Alone! Not asking for the main character yelling "OH NO!" appearing like some of the games did, but something better than this.
My bet about the "quantity over quality" argument is that you'd be right...aside from one thing: both the PS2 and PS3 were difficult to develop for...but in different ways. The Emotion Engine was a complex beast, but it was dwarfed in complexity by the IBM Cell chip that the PS3 used...a chip that only ever saw real use in PS3s and certain corporate server farms. With PS2 sales falling, the PS3's rocky start and extremely complex architecture, I'd bet that there were a lot of small studios who made PS2 games and tried to stick with Sony only for the PS3 to kick their asses.
