  • Blue chalcedony is a rare gem in these parts of Qld Australia, but I was lucky enough to find my best blue chalcedony yet, after rockhounding and fossicking these creeks over 10 years. This is our journey to finding our best blue chalcedony in the creeks.

Sooooo consensus seems to be that this actually IS a rare stone to find in this area. I just thought I’d mention that because I said in the video it might not be 🤦‍♂️
I also forgot to mention, there was NO filters used in this video. The colour you see is legit. Also the footage at the beginning is from Rockhounding Podcast. I urge you all to check them out for insight into some of your favourite rockhounds. czcams.com/users/RockhoundPodcast

The names "chrysocolla chalcedony" and "gem silica chrysocolla" are used because the green to blue color of gem silica is related to chrysocolla. Some references state that the color is caused by minute inclusions of chrysocolla within the silica. Others attribute the color to "the same copper salts that give chrysocolla its color."
The name "chrysocolla chalcedony" is appropriate if the person using the name knows that their material contains chrysocolla. The name "gem silica chrysocolla" is a misnomer because chrysocolla is not the primary constituent. "Gem silica" is the most appropriate name.
As a variety of chalcedony, gem silica has a Mohs hardness of 7 and is durable enough for use in almost any jewelry design. Yet, gem silica is rarely seen in jewelry. The gem is rare, costly, and the supply is limited.
Congratulations Maverick, you have found a very rare color in nature! Blue flowers, animals and stones are the rarest of colors in nature. I’m tickled pink that you’ve found such a beautiful piece of BLUE, gem quality chalcedony. I’m so very happy for you Jesse!!! 🥰

With as much time as you spend out there I think its pretty rare. I think the appeal of blue stones is just how rare it is to see in nature. This is really perfect timing, I was just having a conversation with someone about things that look blue until you dig them out.

Mike my mate honestly, I showed this comment to my partner Carly but before I did I said to her “okay bub, remember when I thought I might try and make some videos to learn more about the rocks? Did you ever imagine I would get a comment as mind blowing as this?!”. I showed her your message and she almost cried man. To be genuinely honest these videos have had the same affect for me. I struggle since a kid with ADD anxiety and depression. Since focusing my spare time on creating, it’s become such a valuable outlet for me and a way to ease my mind and feel good. But I never once thought I’d help others feel happy. So I thank you man. So much. For sharing your comment with me. I got all goosebumpy but massively humbled. Thank you Mike! That is an extremely awesome and rare find my friend. Blue chalcedony is rare everywhere! It looks blue due to specific impurities/particles in it and the way light refractor off those particles. It's the same phenomenon that makes the sky look blue. The pink hue is also produced in a similar way there is a pink sky at sunset on a clear blue day. Light refraction is an amazing thing!

Wow that was the most incredible blue I've ever seen. It was so great when you were talking about the pink showing through when you manipulated the rock as you spun it around the very bottom shows the whole lair of pink shining through. If you go back and re-watch you'll see it's right there plain as day before you showed it up to the light. What an incredible day for you what an incredible find. Heading to Hawaii next week on vacay but I hear there's no good rocks other than the lava rocks and we're not allowed to touch those because of the evil curse. Thanks again for the wonderful video

Jesse, that is SPECTACULAR!!! I've never seen a chalcedony or an agate that blue before. Surrounding Luna, New Mexico, on the Arizona border, we have what is called Luna Blue and Luna Gold which are mostly very thick seam agates but I have some boulders that are 40 lbs. and more. But the blue is NOTHING like that. The Gold is fairly remarkable, but the blue does not come close to yours. When you pulled out the polished marvel, I couldn't believe it. It was as blue as some of those sliced agates that the Brazilian's ruin by dying it. But I have followed you too long and know you to be too honorable to do something so crass. Fine stuff, my friend. You bring an old man great pleasure in living vicariously through your journeys when my age and health prevent me from every collecting again. Thanks for the thrills.
