It was during an interview covering a project he was involved in in 2021.
From an article I found:
John covered Nothing Else Matters for the project and decided to crash Metallica’s interview with Stern via Zoom to tell them how much he enjoyed the opportunity.
“Listen, this is one of the best songs ever written, to me,” John declared. “It’s a song that never gets old. And playing on this track, I just couldn’t wait. The chord structure, the melodies, the time changes, it’s got drama written all over it.”

Thisnis my fav song from them haha i habe 1 other ine thats my all time fav.. i also loved it cuz He himself thougjt people wouldnt like this kind of music cuz their other music is just metal head music and i kove them all but these more melodic slow heavy metal is one of my loves!! Especially with his badass voice haha. I REMEMBER DOING THAT " YEAAHHH" in the car with my kids father who is in the stars now but st the time he was driving and i was sitting passenger amd this song was pretty new.. and it came on the radio and we started listening and i did that big " YEAAAUUGGHH" LIKE HIM all boyish with a deep dude voice and i happened to have my window open and i scared the shit out of this younger couple that was walk8ng on the sidewalk as we drove by and they both jumped up cuz it was all quiet and we both laughed so freakin hard cuz we didnt expect them to get scared and it was just funny cuz i got into it and i was mostly shy for a lot of stuff except I wasnt with him lmfao IT WAS ONE OF OUR FAV memories of eachother and bow i think of it when listening to this song and laugh u, i replay that memory in my head with him and see his smile and hear his laughter and know hes with me when i am thinking about him in that moment haha
