its actually really old technology. The original trains had been proposed to operate like this on a single monorail track. There is two self correcting counter rotatine gyroscopes. Its actually amazing bit of kit but science for some reason just abandoned the idea as investors didnt like it ???? go figure
it took too much weight and space. The "original trains" you're referring to are the "Brennan Monorails" and were most definitely not "original trains." Classic dual-rail trains were around for a very long time before the Brennan was introduced. The Brennan's were not viable for use, as every single train car needed its own set of gyroscopes, taking too much space, way too much weight, and too much noise inside the car itself for passenger use.
A prototype one rail, passenger railroad was built operating in a similar manner staying upright with a gyroscope.
And even a model train was made to operate on a one rail track with a gyroscope keeping it upright.
As a motorcycle enthusiast I have my own personal collection of gyroscopes. It's what makes countersteering work.
That thing is awesome!
Thanks!
Love it!

The original trains?

In a time where energy efficiency is key, imagine using energy through all the time just spinning inercia reels.
Pretty amazing technology, but of questionable usefulness.
You just described most of our collection, lol.
Jump it!
Hold my beer and watch this!
