Adam. I'm curious, do your fingers buzz after banging for a while? Or is there a skill to prevent your fingers from the impact of the metal-beating?

No they dont. The technique is not gripping the hammer too tight. Any vibration is absorbed by the hammer handle, the anvil and the work. Being hot there should be little to no vibration anyway.
