- Russia declared a federal state of emergency in the Kursk region on Friday as Ukrainian troops continued a cross-border incursion for a fourth day.

The order came as Russia’s defence ministry said its forces “continue to repel” a Ukrainian attempt to break into the Kursk region, the most substantial incursion into Russian territory of the war so far.
In his Thursday evening address, Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine’s president, without directly referencing the offensive, said: “Russia brought the war to our land and should feel what it has done.”

It isn't a humiliation for Russia. Almost all war analysts have been very critical of this, calling it a PR stunt with no strategic sense. The Ukrainians will eventually be pushed back and possibly pushed beyond their own border, as they dont have the resources or logistics to sustain this invasion.

Not an invasion, it is a special military operation to create a buffer zone in response to Russian aggression.
It's more tactical than that. They have taken a railway hub that's used to supply Russian forces in the (stagnating) Kharkiv Oblast offensive and the gas terminal that is the only remaining pipeline to the EU (only to Hungary and Slovakia to be exact!😂😂😂.) Other benefits - lots and lots of valuable (forced) conscripts (more cared about than the voluntary contract soldiers) to exchange; ties up lots and lots of Russian forces; possible territory exchange as part of settlement in the futeure.

Let's be crystal clear here. Russia launched a full scale invasion of Ukraine in violation of multiple treaties. Russia is now surprised they get punched back? Russian forces are mostly irregular, poorly equipped and don't want to be there. If Russians think Belarus is always going to be a satellite the Belarusian people themselves have a problem with that.
You can't morally justify annexation of internationally agreed borders then just say " well Peter the great, soviet union, I love Tucker etc". The British Empire at its height encompassed about (73?) The reason makes sense. Since Putin is saying he will stop the fighting if the current lines are accepted (which Ukraine won’t accept without significant western pressure), therefore taking some Russian territory will prevent that narrative from being pushed towards westerners

Yeah the US general said 600,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died whereas Russian soldiers lost 50,000. Russia didn’t know the west (NATO) was training Ukrainian soldiers. Putin realizes the west had missiles just about ready to bomb his nuclear locations. Now Putin is upset since he didn’t know the west would secretly go against them when he thought they were buddies now. Russia hasn’t put money in their military since Putin has actually been worrying about their citizens economically after the fall of the Soviet Union. Another key point to note is you notice it’s been a while since the “war” has been going on? That’s cause Putin doesn’t want to take Ukraine. He just wants it neutral and to not cross a certain line since it’s the gates of Russia. He can go to Kiev in a matter of seconds. Hell he’d let everyone run up there, then follow the river down that’s ancient route to Ukraine and take them out. If you look at the map, no one can come from any direction besides above. Similar to irans military air defense, Putin has placed air defense systems so as their troops move, they are covered from satellite intelligence and missiles.
