I would argue Ukrainians can hold on for quite a while based on topography of the terrain. What matters is men, equipment and morale and that's gonna be what it is regardless on what side of the border you're on. It's not luke Ukrainians can just retreat from Kurk oblast and go somewhere else, they'd still have to hold the line on the border. In many ways it is better to defend in the enemy territory then in your own - if enemy wants to push you out they have to destroy infrastructure in their own territory instead in yours.

Russia have made the great mistake of taking the risk of leaving their own borders defenseless, though they should have only been using a fraction of their forces in Ukraine, because most of them need to be able to defend Russia's own soil and very long borders.
But Russia now face the problem that they cannot just recruit new "manpower" to fly their fighter jets or be used as tank or artillery crew without several month or a year of intensive training, and who are going to be training them when they are either dead, injured or at the front-line ?
Ukraine do not face the same kind of difficulties because they can use the vast majority of their forces to defend their own country and they are getting their specialized training abroad within the many countries of the NATO alliance.

The Ukrainians have been advancing rapidly towards a key supply railway for the Russian war effort and the Kursk nuclear powerplant, that is the key energy supplier for a region that produce 48% of the Russian iron ore, 13.5% of Russian Steel, 19% of Russian ferrous metals, almost 10% of Russian meat and 19% of Russian sugar.
The Ukrainians are now very close to the powerplant, and if they capture it, it will be highly difficult for Russia to retake it, considering that artillery strikes, missile and other air strikes against a nuclear powerplant on Russian soil will be out of the question.

This has huge political value that will destabilise Putin in Russia. I don't think Ukraine will hold much of Kursk for long but they are taking enough Russian prisoners to get a lot of Ukrainians back in prisoner swaps. There's also a chance Ukraine could significantly disrupt Russian logistics if it damages train lines, gets fire control over highways etc, and this could significanlty reduce Russia's supplies to the Khrakiv front. I'd love to find that special ops have taken out some key train bridges as part of this.

New incursions around Belgorod and small border towns are being over run by heavy Armor and Infantry units... Tetkino up further north is taking heavy bombing and small arms fire too... Looks like several Border attacks are cropping up... Little resistance in the Kursk area gives me the impression that the Republic of Kursk has many in that area actually encourage their Liberation from Russia after not being well looked after by the Putin Regime... He hasn't well cared for the People he already had control of much less try for more control in Ukraine, they may want to be part of the European economy...
I'll say that Trump has lost a lot of support for President since Biden gave up on another term in office.. He is seen as a Criminal with Felonies, Indictments and more Criminal Charges yet to be brought to court... He don't really want to be our President to represent "We the People" but only to self serve his interests for the Immunity the Office Of the Presidency would offer him... (He's already up for sentencing for several Felonies!!!) His base is disintegrating since it was really a majority of Religious Zealots bent of a Racist White Nationalist agenda, more of a Cult Following of Pro Gun, Pro Exmilitary even Militia types of low educational Fractured Social background people that was misled by Trumps Lies and Boasts...

NATO could also hold some drills on the Russian border in places like Finland, Estonia and Poland (Kaliningrad border). Just have an exercise on how to get 300k NATO troops on the border and do whatever you would normally do if you were going to attack and then camp there for 3 months. Either Russia would need to draw troops from elsewhere to those areas or never again claim NATO is a threat to them.

Yes. On the first day, at two points, and by 10 km deep behind the lines. That was six days ago. Now they've windened the gap in the second def line to at least 30 km wider, and growing, have full control 10-15-20 km deep, + have forward units operating 50 km from the UA border. This is BIG.

One logic you might apply to Putins response, is he will assume that he is safer to leave Ukraine dug in than risk seeing a major confrontation inside Russia. It is then up to Ukraine to evaluate if they can expand the land grab while still having the ability to mount a new offensive in the South. It seems to be a gamble on bluff. If Putin leaves the Ukrainians to increase their numbers it may be that Ukraine will take over the gas and power plants thus affecting a lot more Russians as well as Romania and Hungary, so exploring a wider political twist.

I disagree with Ukraine eventually just withdrawing. They will now defend on russian instead of Ukrainian territory. This way russians can raze russian settlements to the ground instead of Ukrainian ones. And the attrition of russian troops will continue, since Putin can not stop, even if he wanted, while Ukraine holds russian land.
Additionally, "freezing the 'conflict' at the contact line" is now out of the window for russia.
