    To be clear, as far as the Official Expansions, i've only revised/expanded the Pit Fighter (as well as the original Barbarian, Elf, Wizard, and Dwarf). But i have revised/expanded all of the semi-official Warriors from Deathblow Magazine and Citadel Journals (except for the Lord of Aenarion, which is still in the works). In addition, i have created 4 new Warriors: Sister of Sigmar, Dwarf Goldhunter, the Ronin Samurai, and the Albion Druid.

      But revising the Official Warriors is in a long list of things to do! If anything, just to create a larger rulebook for each to match my others!

    Most likely the Witch Hunter is derived from Robert E. Howard's Solomon Kane stories. You have to figure the majority of GW is taken from fantasy and science fiction literature.

      @fredrik241 Před rokem +4

      I'd say the Witch Hunter is based on the cult classic but not super well known film The Witchhunter General 'starring' Vincent Price as the titular character. The film was based on a historical figure Matthew Hopkins and presents him in a suitable vile and grimdark light. It's truly a grim and horrific film that I can totally reccommend to anyone who likes that kinda stuff.

    Love the closer look to the expansions. I always wanted to get the 2 main expansions but they are super expensive (sometimes a few times more expensive than the already expensive base game). Given there really isn’t that much to them apart from the cards (which I already have from Littlemonk print) and just a few minis which I don’t care for.
    I might just go ahead and print out the 2 rulebooks and call it a day :)

I started reading them last night and I've got the same feeling. Might also be because your enthusiasm for the game is infectious.
    It's also funny to read a manual from before the internet was really a thing. "Please mail comments and questions to [insert mail address]. If you require a reply, please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope and leave space in your letter for us to write our replies." So quaint! 😂

      … okay, as a humble-brag I also got Andy Jones to sign my copy of the WHQ rule book when he came out to the US for a local convention. I think I was the only person there who brought something for him to sign, so we wound up talking WHQ for a little while. He told me that he’d written an entire Chaos Dwarf expansion along the lines of Lair of the Orc Lord but the White Dwarf article was all he managed to get out to the public. I don’t think we’re ever likely to see that full expansion unless Warhammer+ gets real wild down the road, but luckily we’ve got people like Littlemonk to rely on and c’mon. Littlemonk is SO generous with his efforts I’m perfectly content using what he’s come up with!

    Another great overview video. The main reason why the character and campaign expansions were expensive is the custom made metal minis they contained. Only a handful of them ever became normal army releases and I think most of those were the Orcs. That's exactly why many of them are fantastically expensive today, especially the Bretonnian as there were very few foot knights created for the 4th and 5th edition era army.
    Same thing holds true today with things like then Ambull expac for BSF.
    Just as a side note, GW always packaged metal minis included in box sets in a blister to protect them and keep them together because the minis were made in a different building from where the sets were packaged in boxes (I asked once when on the phone with mail order in 96ish). You see this in all the 5th edition WFB regiment boxes too, where many of them came with metal parts to customize a champion, musician, and banner bearer. Later on, all those parts became plastic sprues and the metal went away. You saw it with lots of the Gorkamorka vehicles too. GW never sold those "internal" blisters outside of mail order special orders of parts. I have a few sealed Gorkamorka part blisters from mail order that have all the metal vehicle bits to customize a plastic kit.

    Enjoying the series! I wanted to comment that one of the reasons for the game’s success that The Dungeon Dive reports, meaning the depth of the world setting, and the massive bestiary in the base game, which other modern games do not have, is owed to the fact that WQ is itself derived from Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay and Warhammer Fantasy Battles. WQ is its own game, a dungeon crawler in the Warhammer world, but certainly all the monsters and races were drawn from WFRP and WFB. Even the to hit tables and the way strength and toughness are handled is like WFB rules (certainly the contemporary 4th edition from the 90s).
    Other games would not have the lore/background/bestiary already available to achieve this easily, except perhaps D&D but their dungeon crawl equivalents (D&D adventure system) is not as deep.

    I hate to be negative but I have mixed feelings about Games Workshop as a whole. I grew up playing Warhammer Battle. Then moved onto WFRP. Games Workshop (GW) started off a small company with integrity and has seemed to develop into something very different. On the one hand its a British company (Im British) and I do like to supoport home grown businesses, I do genuinely like some of their products and the Warhammer world in general, but I dislike how Games Workshop generally treats its employees and its customers. I know someone who once managed a GW shop, the pressure on sales and "to recruit new players" and make the "big sales"was immense. At the expense of the dedicated regular customer who would make smaller purchases on a more regular basis. I could go into further detail but I wont. I have heard numerous stories from different people at just how ruthless GW as a company seems to operate. Suffice to say. I will not purchase GW products anymore.

      The theme isn't really all over the place, because that is the theme. It's a weird western in which there are portals to different worlds. It's like a multi-verse of pulp fiction. You can kind of choose which worlds you want to play in based on what interests you. It's just not typical fantasy, which turns some people off.

      The hobby world was almost completely focused on males back then. It's an issue I talk about a lot, and I'm glad it's changing. I remember going to gaming conventions in the early '90s, and there would be like 3 women for every 100 men, and most of the women there would be sitting around with their partners looking totally bored.
