Why Cascade pass closures become necessary during winter weather

  • If you're wondering why Snoqualmie, Stevens and other passes across the Cascade mountains frequently close during bad snow storms, look no further than the cliffs to either side of the roads.
A major reason the passes are closed is to allow specialized crews to remove the avalanche hazard by bringing down accumulated snow in a controlled fashion.

Interesting ❗ I was stuck on the bus leaving Lumby, Canada area for almost two days because of an avalanche. We were right next to steep mountain that went straight up the side of the road. Quite an experience ❗

And... Nobody works for wsdot anymore. So if you're trying to storm ski, or ski 4 days after a storm.. go for a hike or do it in the metaverse better yet.

At Crystal mountain they have lines strung across the ravines on the Silver King and Silver basin that the patrol uses to hang the charges on. We who considered ourselves extreme skiers tried to slap the cords while going down the Throne and Queen and I'm not lying when I say we were scared as S**t if the snow wasn't powder . I only got one in many time trying as its hard to get enough speed in the cut to go up hill and then cut back and get air born to reach the cords. I used to challenge the snow boarders to follow me down the shoots. Not one of them took me up on that challenge. You can be killed out there as one guy has already proved this season in the powder bowl at Crystal.I am old and i wish I was able to take on those snow shoots again. Not something that everyone can do.I was caught in two avalanches and just relaxed and watched for a rock to jump on and let the slide pass me. Luck was on my side. I dug a few unlucky people at Revelstoke out of the concrete of avalanche snow who didn't get lucky and I cried with the rest of the guys. We are here for just a short time and its sad to not save those who are so young.Don't go out if you want to live a long life. Long life is over rated in my opinion. The thrill is in the risk and rush while thundering down deep powder where few will dare to go.Just do it!!!!

Close the road to 2wd's with California plates, sure, but let the locals with awd and dedicated winter tires get up to the mountain to use our extremely expensive ski passes

Anyone with any mountain pass travel already knows this The fact is Insley fired too many mandated workers and then refuses them unemployment. All hail the king!
