since the price is a factor in this competition i would go for the gt350r all the way , it's less than half price of the amg gts which is the cheapest among the best 3

Light Yagami actually i do live in Saudi Arabia , already saw a gt350 in Ford dealerships , it costs like 55K or 60K , i know it's not a 350R , but as long as it has the same engine and the amazing sound , i won't really care then , plus the GT350R spoiler is kinda ugly if u ask me

McLaren has billions of carbon fiber and MSO options, it's quite hard to stay under 200k when you spec the 570S.
Great info to see how lap times and prices compare. It's also interesting to note you can't even buy a M4 GTS since they are completely sold out. Also, the GT350R is in such high demand right now there isn't one anywhere close to sticker price for sale in the US.

I am quite surprised at how much faster the R8 was here than at Lightning Lap (where it was slower than the 1LE Camaro).
I know at LL it was wearing standard tires, and here it clearly must be wearing optional (Cup 2?) tires.

Well, if you consider the lap time on Laguna Seca an actually important measure, I agree.
Not really, but it's undeniable that brands like Mercedes, Audi, Toyota, Porsche and Renault really benefit from all the research they have to do to keep their racing products performing the best they can.
I agree. But the R8 probably makes up for less than 3% of revenue of Audi. I know, that the other cars have benefited from the technology, too, but a lot less than the rather uncompromized R8.
Special 1 Im not saying that this lap is of major importance.
Its not about revenue or compromise. For instance, Acura didn't make any compromises for the NSX.
But the NA V10 is significantly faster than a TT V6 with 3 electric engines in a drag race and around the track. It signifies that having the cash and simply "making" it isn't everything. Its all in the tuning. And that comes from Motorsport.

It's a bit of a downgrade. I also think the current V10 unit buzzes a lot, doesn't sound as tuneful or as good as the first.

R8 had standard Pirellis P Zero tires and not the Michelins Cup2's which are High performance tires
The Z06 would be best car if it didnt overheat. You can find them 11k off MSRP because of this issue
Its still a street car, right? 95% of milage will be driven on the standard road, through the rain etc. The Trofeo R or Cup 2 would suck then.
No it didnt, The car in spec ran Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 tires, It says so right in the post on Motrtrends channel

The more I look at it, the more it grows on me.
It's amazing what basically a tire change can do. The old R8 GT had 560hp..but was much lighter so it had lbs/hp ratio close to this R8 Plus...R8 GT 6.22lbs/hp vs. 6.05 for this R8 Plus. The old R8 GT was on Pirelli Corsa while this R8 Plus is on Michelin Cup tires like the GT3RS, 918 and Z06 and its 2.16seconds faster. That improvement is similar to what SRT found when they swapped the Cup tires in place of the Corsas on the Viper T/A...was 2.5 seconds faster.

Needs better tires, itps one of the rare cars here that doesn't have any sort of track focused rubber on it. With tires that GT350 or M4 GTS have it would do a 1:32 lap.

The Aston isn't made for track times, the manual doesn't help.
Technically the Camaro has about as many technical luxury features as the Aston Martin, and its also a manual as well, but not tricky like the narrow-gated 7-speed dog-leg in the Aston.

Need to make an "R8 SV" with the aventador SV's 740hp/509lb-ft. 6.5L v12 That would be 138hp and 96lb-ft.
Atleast they finally put on some great tires in the Michelin Sport cup tires....that's the really reason it was so fast.

Honest question: Why does Randy take turn 6 (right before Rahal Straight) at 78-80MPH in every single car? Surely some of the lighter cars or those with sticker tires can go much faster, but in every single car in this challenge and in other best driver cars he takes that turn at ~80MPH. Even in the McLaren P1 and mighty 918 Spyder, his apex speed is right about 80MPH...
I just hope that when they did this test they put the right tires on it. During their main review they didn't get the performance tires and the lap time was no bueno

Sounds like it needs some bigger tires and possibly a little more aero. I'm sure it aerodynamic but a little more downforce up front to help those tires stick.

This, actually, makes sense to me. What does not make sense is that car and driver ran this car at VIR in their Lightning Lap and it was relatively slow.
Definitely gets best sounding car of the year.
I'm impress by the contenders of this years Best drivers car, Viper ACR,R8 V10+,NSX,570S, these cars when on track can really challenge my fave Nissan GTR,I know past cars already beat them but man these cars are way tougher, I predict it'll be on 1:35 again, .30 seconds slower than the GTR Nismo, especially on the world's greatest drag race! R8 V10 plus 2.6s 0-60? unlike past Drag races, hater or not, you're confident that the GTR will win it coz of the Launch control, that's not the case this year, very impressive!

For all those people complaining and using that age old tire excuse of 2011, This car, The R8, Ran on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 tires, MPSC2s, t comes in 2 varietys, But it had the most focuses ones, Same ones the GT350 word. So stop making excuses. Every sinlge car here had a very grippy compound in the tire selection. 10 of the 12 cars here...Are wearing R-Compound tyres....So quit bitching.

Ive just spent the last 20 mins playing this side by side with the 570s video. If you synchronize both stopwatches at the beginning of the lap, they are out of sync at the end of the lap and the audi's stopwatch is slower. Im not saying MT sped up the audi's lap, or sped up the 570s' stopwatch. But it is interesting...

I'd put my money on either the GT350R or the Mclaren, the M4 was a huge disappointment. It's slower than the Mustang, barely faster than the Camaro, costs twice as much, has a ridiculous roll cage and wing, and it sounds like a cement mixer. Rather have an M2.
...why would the M4 GTS win? It's not the most fun, nor the best drive. It's one of my dream cars, I love BMWs, but come on...

you know it's really crazy that Randy had pulled the same exact 134 time in the Camaro unbelievable I cannot believe that the 2017 Camaro pulled the same 1 minute and 34 seconds the same time as the Audi R8 V10 and the 2017 Camaro 1LE motor actually me the same timing which is unbelievable and the Camaro is actually more affordable to even somebody like me rather than $198,000 for an Audi R8 that only people would exclusive money can buy!... But I'm really going to have to go and look at getting myself that 2017 Camaro because basically that Camaro that he drove Wuzzles I cannot believe the way it was so great on the track and that it had the power and it's on believable it's just unbelievable that the Camaro kept up with an Audi R8!... I'm still Blown Away!...

The best R8 is probably the original, with the 420hp V8. Best handling, best engine sound.
tbh the Camaro and mustang the two "muscle car/ now sport cars" have better bits for handling than this for way less, if only you could get the power down out of those rwd as good as this awd v10 monster. give the Camaro or mustang a procharger and somehow get the power down you'll be in good shape coming out of corners to impress
Chevy and Ford have certainly come a long way in improving handling on these cars.
It's all about the tires. Compare these results to the Car and Driver Lightning Lap. The Audi comes in 8 seconds slower than the McLaren.

How is that dumb? If a car company made two different cars based on the same (or very similar chassis and engine) and the less expensive car was faster, why would anyone spend the extra money for the premium exotic model? If Porsche suddenly started putting 600hp turbo engines and giant ceramic brakes with track suspension in the Cayman, and sold it for significantly less than the 911, there'd be no reason to buy the 911. It's not a counterpart - Lambo is Audi's child. Audi bought Lambo because Audi was going to build a sports car prototype that they had been showing for years. They needed to make money. They built a car and slapped a Lambo badge on it. They could charge 150k more for it. That's how we got the Gallardo. The only thing Lambo really did was provide the styling for the Gallardo. Long story short - Lambo can't get upset - they are only still alive because of Audi. That said - the German do make the character different so they can still sell Lambos for much more and get more money in their accounts.
Synonyms for the word "counterpart"-equivalent, peer, equal, parallel, compliment, match, mate, brother, sister. So like I said, the R8 could be considered the counterpart to the Gallardo.
BMW should really get to work on a R8 equivalent with a rear engine coupe... the i8 just doesn't cut it
