- Get the precision of a drill press with the portability of a hand drill-ideal for small shops that lack the space for a full-size drill press. The new Edge Guide for the Portable Drill Guide lets you drill multiple holes the same distance from the edge-great for dog holes, shelf pin holes and Shaker pegs. The Self-Centering Drill Vise perfectly centers your stock for drilling-turn the knob and both faces close smoothly at the same rate.

Larry Bird has aged really well and loving this transition into craft

I'm not sure this is the same guy.
love it! I like your honesty about the wooden dowels for the extension. Peckerwoods would tell you to buy their extension bars for $129.
I’ve had mine for a while now and seems to work flawlessly…. Only thing I’d like to see is a spring like seen on another brand to kinda push the drill chuck back up when done drilling a hole….
More on cabinetry and door making please
The drill guide is the only item I have ever bought from rockler that has let me down.
It's funny how they never show a video of it in action. Unedited video. They know it doesn't function properly, yet they keep selling it.
@@fransiscon same issue here. Jams up like crazy even when I am SUPER careful to maintain pull or push exactly over the chuck. Super high quality parts, built to last a lifetime…..just can’t risk ruining another project cause of the binding. I wish I could return mine………

@@andydonise3881 Thanks for the comment. I wondered about that and was about to pull the trigger. Time to look around.
Threw mine in corner - jams up. Haven’t looked back.
im so getting one of these and its accessories
🙌💙
I bought it and yesterday used it in a room with sawdust in the air. Now it sticks badly and can stay up with a heavy drill attached without using the thumbscrew. Already used glidecote.
We’ve found that Boeshield T-9 works well for lubricating the posts to alleviate the problem. You'll want to remove the previous coating from the posts and then apply the Boeshield and buff it in.
Along the edge guide, can we also use router bits with the portable drill guide?

You really need to start making review videos of your products in use, not only the sales part of it
Thanks for the feedback. We have passed this feedback along to our video team.
Why does this only have a 1/4" hex shank??? This is supposed to be a heavier duty drill guide, but the Milescraft drill guide uses a 3'8" shank. If you want to use larger forstner bits, the shanks on those bits are often bigger than this guide. It seems like 90% of the components on this guide are heavier duty than the competition, but 10% are smaller and since it is only as strong as its weakest link, this isn't any better. The pictures from Rocker show a 12V Bosch drill being used. That explains it.
I really like the idea of a drill guide. It isn't practical to put an 8' 4x4 on a drill press and figure out a way to secure it. This seems half assed.
The hex shank only goes in the drill or driver and is sized like that to fit any drill and speed chuck. The chuck on the drill guide can accept up to 1/2" shanked bits, including forstner bits.
@@rockler I understand the shank goes into the drill/driver. I am saying a chain is only as strong as its weakest link and this seems like a dumb decision in terms of trade off. Have you actually tried using a 1.5" forstner bit with this? I am betting the shank on the drill guide will break. This is a bigger drill guide than the Milescraft and most components seem to be beefier with the glaring exception of the shank. Why make 95% of the components of the guide bigger while making this one critical piece smaller?
I would much rather have a larger shank so I can use more powerful drills and drill bits. It seems silly to use a tiny 12V installation drill with this large drill guide. That completely defeats the purpose of the tiny drill. If I was using a drill guide, I am pairing it with a drill capable of 1200+ in-lbs of torque that is capable of using large forstner bits.
Yes, even used a 2-7/8'' diameter forstner bit with a 1/2'' shank. The 1/4" shank is much stronger than you are imagining. With a sharp drill or forstner bit, the drill doesn't have to have much power and torque to drill a hole.
Where are the return springs on the drill guide?

Can I use with a whole saw
Yes, the maximum drill bit diameter that fits through the base opening is 2-7/8'' or about 73mm. Thanks
This or the woodpeckers?
We say this.
Where can I purchase
Thank you
You can find these in Rockler stores or on our website at - www.rockler.com/power-tools/drilling/drilling-accessories/miscellaneous-drilling-accessories#/filter:brand:Rockler - Thanks

Why does he not use the pillar drill in the background and make a template?
Its far more cost effective to buy a quality pillar drill
Sometimes it's easier to take the the machine to the workpiece than it is to take the workpiece to the machine. Another consideration is how far in from the workpiece's edge must the hole be drilled. It may exceed the depth capacity of the drill press. I would only buy one of these if I started doing a lot of work with issues of the aforementioned.
So I can’t even clamp to an edge board for drilling holes on the edge of the board? Disappointing
Hello, At 2:16 you will see how to use it to drill on the edge of a board. Thanks
Don't buy this drill guide. I purchased one last year. Once you mount a drill, it simply jams going down or going up. Completely useless. Quality parts. But Horrible design.
A few of my friends purchased it as well. Same problems.
Returned to rockler. Very disappointed.
